jean casarez joins me live from columbia, inned md, good morning to you, jean. >> reporter: good morning. this is the hospital right behind me that karlesha was brought to after she was rescued yesterday. we've learned a little bit more how this came down. law enforcement in virginia tells me that they knew of this man because of some very serious charges, an outstanding warrant including attempted capital murder. they also knew that he had gotten his car from a dealership and because of the credit risk he was, they had put a gps monitor on him. that gps monitor led to where they were found, they were found in the back seat together, fbi, atf and u.s. marshal surveiled the car, they didn't approach it, because they didn't want a hostage situation but when he walked out of the car, they apprehended him, her family says they are overjoyed. >> carlesha freeland has been rescued. philadelphia woman kidnapped on sunday now find alive. carlesha freeland gaither was rescued in jessup, maryland, wednesday, after authorities identified the vehicle used in her abduction and tracked it down. >> whe

jean casarez takes a look. >> reporter: federal charges brought against delvin barnes in the kidnappingeeland-gaither and transporting her across the state lines of maryland. while this is all happening, barnes waived extradition to come back to virginia where he lives to face local charges of attempted capital murder. in a strange irony and twist of fate, this local case may have helped save the life of carl carlesha. it was a month ago a 16-year-old local girl was walking along the street and barnes kidnapped her and hit her with a shovel and transported her to a home. he made her take her clothes off in the backyard of the home and he allegedly dug a grave saying he was going to kill her and dousing her with bleach and gasoline and setting her on fire. she escaped. she survived. she was taken to a hospital and given a forensic rape examination. that perpetrator dna was matched to delvin barnes. at that time, police say, which was about a week ago, he fled the state. it's that dna that led them to delvin barnes in philadelphia via the surveillance camera. when local police saw that vi
