. >> cnn's jean casarez is here with more. not found the murder weapon, but they are finding more. what have they found? >> reporter: they've wanted to find the murder weapon. that's one of the things they requested, but they did find things, and remember, it was seven weeks between the time it was committed and the search of this apartment. so let's show everybody exactly what they found. they did find some blood and bodily fluids. they collected that. there were some presumptive tests at the scene to see if it was blood. they took those with them. they also found part of a mattress cover with stains, several hair strands because they obviously want to try and find the victims soeassociated h him and his apartment, an animal hair strand. kaylee had her dog. black gloves, store receipts. one was from marshalls. one was from a dickie's tag, and that's work clothes. they were able to do more forensic testing on that to try to associate him with the crime scene. that's the point, right? they did not find the knife they asked for.

. >> jean casarez is in stroudsburg, pennsylvania, outside the correctional facility where kohberger is being held. what more are we learning about him and for folks coming back from vacation, how investigators found their way to him. >> well, what we're learning about him personally is he just graduated -- this is his home, northeastern pennsylvania, he graduated in may from the area. he got his masters degree in criminal justice. we also know he just completed his first semester at washington state university, clear across the country, right next to idaho, where he is a criminal justice and criminology major. we also know he participated as an active -- an active participant in a research project this last semester at the university in regard to how emotions and psychological traits influence decisionmaking when committing a crime. now, we do know that he traveled here for the holidays. he was at his family home. it was very early morning hours of friday that the fbi, pennsylvania state police moved in, they knocked on the door. his father answered. there was cooperation. brian cam

cnn's jean casarez is in pennsylvania. jean, what else are you learning? >> reporter: we're learning a little bit more about that trip and we do want to say there is nothing we have learned that his father knew anything about what was happening allegedly with his son in idaho. it's a long drive from idaho, washington, here to pennsylvania. so common sense would say that sometimes it's better to have two people. we do understand that his father flew to the west coast, met his son. it was because it was the holidays. the doctoral courses, school was out. he came home to be with his parents this is what we are understanding what was driven from washington to pennsylvania was that hyundai electra, and we are understanding that there was a stop in pennsylvania at an auto repair store, and we have this corroborated by two people, and one said they needed to get some work done on that car which is an interesting, small, little alleged fact at this point that could become significant, right? and so the work was being done, and bryan was talking about his doctoral

jean casarez thank you. >>> with us is criminal defense attorney ashley merchant. you heard that list of what they got. what do you think the most important thing now is that they have in their hands? >> the glove and the hair. i think the glove is important because, if they can put any of the victims' skin cells on the glove, maybe the outside of the glove, they can test for fingerprints and skin cells on the inside of the glove. if they can find the suspect's skin cell on the glove and have the victim's skin cells on it. why would he be in that home, why would he have an item that shared skin cells. the other thing, the hair, did it have roots attached in did he have transfer dna from the victims he brought home with him. we're not just looking for blood. we're looking for transfer dna. we're to the point in science that we can get dna off skin cell. you can drop a skin cell very easily. if you shake someone's hand, you transfer your dna to their hand. that's what they're looking for, this trace-type dna. >> we know kohberger's lawyers weighed his preliminary hea

cnn's jean casarez is covering this for us. an, walk us through what happened here. >> it was a close call, but i want to walk you through the body cam video because i think that really shows it and, by the way, that little toddler was pulling the trigger and you are going to find out the gun was loaded. first of all, the officers get the call at this apartment complex that a toddler has a gun, the neighbors are calling. they go and they do a cursory search, that's them right there, the officers in the apartment, cartoons are playing, they don't find it, so they're about to leave. a neighbor then contacts them before they leave, she walks out of their apartment, look at this, and it's her ring video, and that ring video is showing this toddler minutes before that, right there, at the entranceway with the gun waving it around, pulling the trigger. the officers immediately -- we have to go back in. so they go back in the apartment. the father says i have never brought a gun into this apartment. there is no gun in here. and he asks

>> jean casarez following the story and joins us now. how, how, how? >> this is amazing. all caught on police bodycam. i want to take you through beach grove, indiana. what happened is that the officers were called to an apartment complex because of a toddler with a gun. and so they get there, and one of the neighbors is standing right there and she begins to tell them, i saw this toddler. he was waving around a gun. a real gun. watch. >> so my son opened the door, and -- this little boy upstairs -- standing there with a firearm and i looked up and he was standing there. >> went on to say she looked through it the peephole there he was hands behind his back and points the gun says look what i've got. what she said. so officers go to the apartment. you watch them going into the apartment right now, and they said to the father, we believe your toddler had a gun is. what they're saying. we've got to search, and they searched high and low in that apartment to see if they could find any gun, and you watch that. and they didn't find anything. father said, there is no gun here.

cnn's jean casarez is outside the courthouse where kohberger appeared.ht following his appearance in court? >> reporter: well, he signed the papers, the extradition papers in court. so then the judge declared that he would be extradited to idaho. but that is the last we've heard. no one will confirm if he is still in pennsylvania, if he is in flight at all. if he is remaining here for the next few days. no one is confirming that. so we'll just have to wait because there are safety concerns and they have publicly told us on the record that they just don't want that released at this point because of all of those potential issues. >> you were sitting right behind his family in the courtroom i understand. what was their reaction? >> reporter: very emotional. stunned. they walked in. his mother was just distraught. she was sitting there. and when he walked in, he looked at his family but he looked directly at his father. and he acknowledged him. seriously. but his head was acknowledging him. he sat with his public defender, the chief public defender, turned a

>> jean casarez, thank you very much. i want to turn now to former secret service agent jonathan lackro. no surprise the family is reminding people their son is innocent until proven guilty. what more could we learn from that? >> we're going to learn a lot from that probable cause statement once it's released. you have to think this is a very complex investigation that started back with the crime scene processing, which was very difficult. we had four victims, multiple features at that crime scene, the collection of forensic evidence at the time. so all of the pieces that we have questions on that are lingering are going to start to be put together once we read that affidavit. we're going to get clearer insight as to the connection of the dna evidence and how that was linked directly to this suspect and potentially the techniques that they utilized to make that linkage. so we're going to, you know, garner a lot of information, but i think there's an important point here that law enforcement is still asking for the public'

jean casarez joins us now with more.in the documents because of the probable cause affidavit was so specific, they saw no reason to not unseal this. and so that is how we had this information. so, they believe that the residence of bryan kohberger was extremely important because they believe that he possibly could have gone straight there after, in their view, committing these crimes and so here is what they found at the house. we want to show everyone. it looks -- you see a lot of forensic information here that their exploring. there are cuttings. there are blood stains. the dark red cuttings, the part of a mattress, several hair strands, to see if that apartment has any evidence of those victims in that apartment right there. night rate gloves and a clothing company, now let's look at what they wanted to find. this is what they asked for. they asked about things such as the clothing, such as the knife, they asked for things such as an drawings or indications of planning on that part. they did take, which is interesting

jean casarez joins us outside in pennsylvania. >> reporter: a simple procedure right here at the courtlace legally speaking an extradition hearing is where the commonwealth of pennsylvania has to allow someone within their borders to go to another state to face criminal charges, and it's constitutionally important. it's important that the judge see the defendant so he can voluntarily show that he is agreeing to do that. now, here's what's interesting, because normally when you have any type of proceeding with a criminal defendant at a courthouse, there's sometimes an underground garage they drive through to park and get him in the courthouse so nobody sees him or an underground tunnel between the jail and the courthouse. they don't have that here. so they are going to have to take him from the correction facility and really just bring him to one of the entrances here. now, what we're understanding is that they may drape the entrance so the public cannot see him, as he gets out of the car and walks in. however, the judge is allowing pool cameras to be right there in the hallway next to

. >> and mary ellen, we heard from jean casarez earlier that the suspect shared moments with his familyo his family, nodding to them multiple times. is there any rulebook for how people accused of heinous crimes behave in court? is there anything you can read into that? >> no, there really isn't. we've had a range of behavior in crimes over the years. and offenders will come in, and they see their family there, and it makes them feel good, they need the support, they want the support. so they have a response that they will give. in other cases we've had offenders take the respond and get married in the courtroom. we've had offenders pass out and feign heart attacks in the courtroom. so there's no rule book for any of this. >> joey, were you surprised that he didn't fight extradition? >> i was not. especially if he's defending and he says that he's looking forward to being exonerated. it's really difficult to really match that narrative. you look forward to being exonerated, yet you want to delay your movement to the state at issue, idaho, so that you can fight extradition. so again, tha

jean casarez is at the courthouse. what more could we learn today in court and afterwards?porter: that is the thing about a legal proceeding. er y-- you never know what you'e going to see. they're going to state his name and make sure that he was associated close to the crime scene obviously before this commonwealth of pennsylvania will allow him to be extradited. but he is in the courthouse now. and i think we have some video. he arrived in just the last 20 minutes. very big police presence here. all morning. roads are shut. and they don't have an underground way to get him into the courthouse. so i think you're looking at the video now when he exited the transport vehicle. and there was some media around there. we were able to capture with his orange jail garb on. he was cuffed. he walked in very briskly. did not answer any questions as the media was asking him things. now we do know that his whole family will be here. they are from northeastern pennsylvania, not too far from here. mother and father and his two sisters. but they will not be allowed to visit with him or ta

jean casarez is watching this. what has happened in court. >> very important.june 26th is going to be the probable cause hearing. this is very important because this is where the prosecutor has to put on evidence to show exactly what they have and then if they have enough, the case would be bound over for trial. but the defense could cross-examine, we may learn more at this point we just have the affidavit. and yesterday i was speaking to a former fbi attorney, 20 years, he was with the fbi, he was the co-founder of the forensic genetic genealogy division of the fbi and i asked him, isn't there more than what is in this probable cause affidavit? i specifically asked him about dna at the scene. >> very well could be. i don't know. it didn't indicate whether or not he was wearing gloves. it leads me to believe if they found dna on the button of the knife sheath that he was not wearing gloves. so in that case, very, very likely that he perhaps touched the door to get in and out of residence, the door to the other rooms. >> so it is things like this that we could e
