jeanette reyes is live with what she has found. anette: this looks like pile of dirt or sand but believe it or not it is mountains of snow covered in dirt. it is from the blizzard 2016. you can see we found a bunch of trash including a christmas tree. there are several here. not only is this an eyesore but it is impacting two major events in a matter of days. this year record-breaking blizzard is behind us along with the headaches of shoveling feet of sn mounds of snow won't budge. >> i'm surprised there is as much there now as there. i figured we had a couple of warm days and i thought it would be gone. jeanette: the d.c. department of public works tells us the lot is the designated area for the snow. trucks came in dumping the snow and with it is the city trash. leaving a problem even mother nature can't fix. >> we are used to having the parking lot full of snow. it's not usually as grummy and dirty as this. >> on monday d.c. united told fans the lot seven would be home for the first home match and te vents d.c. is more than happy

jeanette reyes has the details. jeanette: after a roller coaster week with high temperatures just a few days ago and now flakes in the possible, you can rest assured that spring is on the way. the national park service announcing at the museum the cherry blossoms will be at their peak march 31 to april 3. you are not imaging things, the peak date for the 3,000 trees are earlier than last year's april 10 bloom period. a long wait after a bitterly cold winter. it's not unusual to see them as early as late march, though, closer to the beginning of the national cherry blossom festival. >> the finale weekend april 16 to 17 will be a great blockbuster. we will start with the national cherry blossom festival parade, and then the japanese tree festival. in the evening, we are presenting cherry blast, which is all things japanese. jeanette: unfortunately the beauty. so once they have opened, how long they will stay that way depends on the weather. but it typically does last a few days. that should give you enough time to che

jeanette reyes shows us where some of the road is being done. jeanette: it has been a rough winter. not just for you but probably for your tires, too. the good news is there is relief on the way. prince george's county pothole blitz kicked off early this morning. and take a look. crews are still hard at work making your ride a little smoother. fluctuating temperatures this winter are mostly to blame. snowplows didn't help either. >> softens up the road. it's not too much you can do about it really. it doesn't bother 10,000 potholes. thus far we have received over 800 requests. and so i suspect that especially with the blizzard and the road conditions being impacted by that through the moisture, we will probably fill close to that as well. jeanette: a couple of things you should keep in mind. there will be crews throughout the county working on the potholes so make sure you are aware of them and try to avoid them and slow down once you are getting close. the second thing is if you see a pothole in your neighborhood you want fixed call 311 and they will try to get to it as soon as pos

jeanette reyes details the alarming message. jeanette: the plan to rename mills e. godwin middle school goes to early january. prince william county public school board members face a tough decision as some want it named after fallen firefighter kyle wilson and other wanted it named after the long-time african-american community leader george hampton. some didn't want to change at all. if board chose to compromise and name a newer school after wilson and godwin middle school after hatchton. but things took an ugly turn after one of board member wife found confederate flag in the mailbox with a racial slur on it. >> a lot of people recognize the individu here deserve the honors. this something where that is someone's idea of sending a message in a way that was inappropriate and unfortunate. we are hoping it's not something that colors the rest of the debate. >> a board meeting was scheduled for tomorrow evening. they expect this to come up. jonathan: crime alert to tell you about at one of the popular museums in the country. u.s. park police release video showing two
