so that is, i think, that is a really big problem for jeb bush. i thought it was striking and a point you just made which is back in new hampshire, he talked to republicans there, they didn't like him for ideological reasons, they said he is not conservative enough. common core is a problem immigration is a problem. they care about the name and electability. so it's like he has two sets of problems with two sets of voters but it is all bad. steve: that is exactly right. two sets of problems, two different groups of voters, they are all bad. by the way, if you went to new hampshire and started talking about, ken bush when? -- can bush win? i think he would've for those same things and likewise with the iowa voters some of them didn't really know what common core was but if you explain it to them and understood it better, i think it would -- of the voters everywhere. remember, the iowa caucus attendees on the republican side is very conservative, the caucus produces winners like rick santorum and mike huckabee, not exactly people who are mainstream

john: i think it may be true that jeb does.bviously we know democrats are loath to give to superpacs or at least more queesy about it. in the end, i'm with david axel roll from -- axelrod from twelve threlve when mitt romney -- from 2012 when mitt romney raised all that money. spending the money effectively is all that really matters. as we saw there, what mattered was how the obama campaign spent its money, not who had the most. in the end, i think jeb bush and hillary clinton, if they are both the nominee, they'll have enough money, that money won't matter anymore. mark: i think it's possible that you can see the republican side really breaking out. let's say people start going negative on hillary clinton now. she's not going to be in a position to defend herself. she's -- people say she doesn't have the nomination fight and that's better for her. jeb's got to fight it out with a lot of other republicans. could be that there's a lot of koch money and other money spent against her now and she'll have to spend money that she'd

jeb bush's poll numbers are not looking great.linton and walker are holding strong in national polls. while the media is up in arms about all three of them today to some extent, what would you say of the three are doing the best job in dealing with the press right now? john: you have to grade this on consequence and right now the person who is getting away with it is scott walker. there are people in his world who are trying to drum up more interest in the fact that he is not taking questions. people -- the world of his rivals, bush primarily, but others. she is getting hammered for it. he is getting hammered by making mistakes, by taking questions. scott walker so far getting off relatively scot-free. mark: in the next two days clinton will not be paying much of a price. walker will not be paying much of a price. the best person dealing with it is walker. he is not doing very much. a trip to israel, there were some tweets and photos. walker is considered the favorite in iowa. many people look at his fundraising and think he will

it's been really harsh, as jeb has kind of fumbled around. >> unfortunately, jeb bush carries the burden of his brother and his brother's legacy. so i think it's been very tough on jeb bush. but a lesson for jeb bush he's got to learn to lesson to the questions and not be on auto pilot in terms of answering these questions. >> that was my feeling, whether he heard the "knowing what we know now" or was so anxious to give the scripted talking point that he sort of blew past it, but the level of media criticism here is so intense, and i'm wondering whether you think this has been overblown at all? >> i don't, actually. and i say that while acknowledging that the media has a very short-term memory about iraq and the fact that democrats like hillary clinton supported going in and media outlets like "the new york times" contributed to it. so that said this was a perfectly legitimate question for meghan kelly, for example, to be raising, and it was a perfectly legitimate reaction by the press to say, you know, he stumbled for, you know, for days before -- it was not an unexpected question. you

jeb is cerebral. very cerebral.l tell you again, he's the smartest guy i've ever been around campaigning with the smartest politician i've been around. i've been around thousands and thousands of politicians. yes, including bill clinton. he doesn't have the flash, he doesn't scratch his face and do the cute stuff but jeb is a very bright guy. >> so marco rubio came under scrutiny this weekend for his personal financial relationship with a billionaire donor. the "new york times" reports that businessman norman bremen hired rubio as a lawyer and donating $100,000 to fund rubio's college teaching position. the paper notes he also hired the senator's wife at his family's foundation and gave him access to a private plane while the rubios were mired in debt. case kasie hunt caught up with the senator and asked him about it. >> norman brie man whofree paid you? >> he was a client of my law firm. and we did to work for him and i'm proud of our association. >> and you don't feel like you have any ethical conflicts? >> the on
