but let me also tell you, eight years ago like i said before, everybody thought jeb bush was going to be the republican nominee. or maybe scott walker. scott walker dropped out in september before anybody could vote for him in jeb bush got one delegate. in 2007 on the democratic side hillary clinton was 34 points ahead of barack obama. we know how that ended. here is what i think we should agree on, we suck at predicting this stuff. polls are regularly wrong. there was not one a poll that showed donald trump beating hillary clinton until election night. do you want to know why? in part we all lied to them. we don't trust them, they don't call the right people. how many times we have to see the polls being wrong for us to say they don't matter that much? here is what i suggest, go to all of these for all of these candidates and see if they stand up here for two hours and answer questions. see if they won't make you write them out beforehand so their staff and see which ones they like to answer. see if they will actually call on anybody. randomly. and that you can ask whatever you want

with us tonight is tim miller, contributor to the bulwark and former communications director for jeb bush. basil shermichael, democratic strategist and former executive director of the new york state democratic party. basil, the president had jokes to go with his economic message today. you think this is how he breaks through? >> i think so. look, there is a lot for the president to report on the economy. with respect to all of the projects he talked about. the unemployment numbers are incredibly impressive and record setting. the question is, do people feel like the economy is getting better? because we can talk about the numbers all we want. but how do you breakthrough on that message to make sure voters really feel it in their homes and pocketbooks and so on? and i think overtime it can breakthrough. i'm glad he is pushing this message now. he can to get as we get closer and closer to the election. and into next year. but he should be going around and talking about it and celebrating it to an extent. but i do think that the arc of the narrative is not just about telling the good storie
