>> i think it's a testament to the 9ers' organization organization and to jed and dr. york and -- and giddeon's leadership. you will be able to go paperless and wi-fi. >> as owners what to you think sold the owners so overwhelmingly on this? >> i think it was the overwhelming support that we had from the community. again, this has not been an easy process to build a new stadium. this started back in 1997 and, you know, now you have not just the city of santa clara but the city of san francisco and you see the investment that they've made in monetary terms, in just political capital and the will power of an entire area. i think that was an overwhelming push for us. obviously, having a new stadium that's ahead of schedule in construction, you know, being in the heart of silicon valley, being in a place that has not hosted a super bowl since the 49ers won in 1985. there's a lot of things that i think were working in our favor. and, you know, hopefully we do a great job and show that california is a great place to host super bowls on a regular basis. >> i would just add that if

levi's ceo along with jed york, mayor lee and mayor jamie matthews made the announcement just a short time ago. >> levi's jeans were designed for the 49ers during the gold rush. it was a really good fit for them then. and it's an even better fit today bringing levis and the 49ers together. and we're working together with san francisco-based company to name a stadium for the san francisco 49ers that we'll be playing in and hopefully a stadium that will host super bowls bringing in hundreds of millions of economic impact to the entire region. that's what a sports team is supposed to do. >> both mayors say the new stadium will benefit their cities. >> and we're very excited about our super bowl bid because that's just going to be another opportunity to display this wonderful partnership that's reflected here. >> the san francisco 49ers are actually a storied icon. they have been wonderful in our community. >> the stadium naming will need to be approved by the santa clara city council. the naming deal comes as the nfl has the 49ers formal bid to the nfl to host "super bowl l." a decision

. >> reporter: the ceo jed york and levi strauss ceo chip berg and both the mayors of santa clara and san francisco were at the news conference that took place in the last hour. levi strauss is proposing a 20-year $220 million agreement to name the 49ers stadium levi's stadium. berg says it's perfect. the levi's president says they began to negotiate a deal in december and as the team began winning more games talks got more serious. today york and berg joked about what has been said about the stadium on social media. >> i think the best thing i've seen is welcome to the field of jeans. [ laughter ] i really like that one. >> or the coach in the locker room "win one for the zipper." jed york here.a is vying against south florida to determine who will host super bowls l and then the area that does not get that bid will go against the city of houston for super bowl li. the bay area is considered a front-runner. the reason, a few weeks ago, the voters in south florida voted down a measure that would have potentially provided money to renovate that stadium and because they voted that money down the bay area is considered a front-runner to be in contention for super bowl l. if they don't get that bid, they will vote on li. right now, it's a little bit of a waiting game. the contingents for all three of those cities are making their presentations for the nfl and then the decision expected to be announced at 3:00 eastern time, noon bay area time. so we'll be on top of that. we'll have reports for you at 5:00 and 6:00. but then the last time that the bay area hosted the super bowl and the only other previous time was at stanford stadium in january of '8 a. everybody knows the economic
