nbc bay area's chief meteorologist jeff ranieri continues our coverage. jeff? >> with this storm system right now with the devastating wind and storm surge that could have been as high as 20 feet in some cases. we probably still won't know the true amount of damage from the storm system for weeks to come at this point. the good news for the philippines, it's moved off toward the west. the strongest portion of the storm cleared the islands but still a rough next 24 hours so when we compare this, good baseline would be strong storms back here across the united states like hurricane katrina. you can see that o the satellite loop right there then we'll superimpose this image of typhoon haiyan and see how much larger it is just in that breadth. the other thing you want to notice is the wind speeds. supertyphoon, again, some of the potential strongest winds ever recorded in a storm. that gusted potentially as high as 230 miles per hour. winds at landfall, 165. hurricane katrina, winds at 175. and at landfall, 129. then superstorm sandy, 115. and also at landfall, 95.

let's bring in chief meteorologist jeff ranieri here now with what we can expect tonight, jeff. >> that wind advisory now in effect all the way through friday morning. hills above 1,000 feet could see winds top 70 miles per hour. what i want to take you to is the east bay, some of these highly commuted corridors here, 580 and 680 under that wind advisory until friday morning as well. also for the north bay, anyone living here will be impacted by these winds that could gust as high as 40 miles per hour. you can see in santa rosa, petaluma, napa, sonoma as well. the other thing we want to get to is not only is it gusty out here but temperatures dropping into the 50s at this hour, so it is in fact giving us something a little bit rare here for the bay area, some windchill just because that air aloft is so cold, even if it's windy out here, it creates friction and helps warm up the air. that cold air aloft is winning out and we have windchills knocking down the current temperature by 5 degrees and also 3 to 5 degrees cooler than that ambient air temperature in napa. we'll detail who could h

let me ask you, jeff, the culture of i.c.e.as been in place -- you know, you're an entrepreneur, as you mentioned. how does the culture change at i.c.e. and the new york stock exchange given the fact that you're doubling in size, you have a market cap of $20 billion. i know everybody on the floor wants me to ask you, is the floor going away? can you categorically say the floor stays? what about the change in culture? what kind of practical changes might we see? >> sure. let me first deal with the floor. again, i refer back to last week when we saw the twitter ipo. it showed everything that was great about going slow, building a book, having the human involved and then releasing that stock for trading when everybody was satisfied. that is very different than having an algorithm build a book. we've seen incidences where that's really been a disaster in terms of an ipo. so, this floor proved itself to me last week. as it has dozens and dozens of times before. and including the day that i took my own company public and got to stand
