jeff jeff is with us tracking some of the movement tonight. jeff? >> you mentioned that 2.9 earthquake happening at 8:24 tonight. shortly after that would also give auus a little rise of concn a microearthquake at 6.1. both not strong for bay area standards. but the reason why we all felt this earthquake across parts of the peninsula is the fact that it is 2.9 miles deep. that's extremely shallow. so a lot of the energy from the earthquake was able to spread out a lot further with this smaller earthquake. now, again, as we mentioned, it's right on the san andreas fault, which always brings us some concern here in the bay area there is a 21% chance of a 6.7 quake over the next 30 years. so any time the san andreas starts to shake, it starts to get us concerned. so this, again, may seem like it's overdoing it. but when there is an earthquake, you should always be prepared. remember, drop, cover, and hold. have a plan for your family, a place to meet, and why pay all the attention to the smaller earthquakes, even at 2.9 magnitude? they may be a foresho

my question is for jeff.nd the statement you made earlier about workers not having equal bargaining with employers. so how can you explain this? i produce products in china, okay? the one place that you would expect workers would earn minimum wage. there aren't any unions. they are unskilled, uneducated workers yet i have to pay over 60% above the minimum wage to find low-skilled workers for our factories. every factory that i know of over there is in the same situation because workers refused to work for anywhere close to the minimum wage. so how would you explain that, the reality of the situation that i'm in right now? >> that's a very interesting question. it really is about bargaining power. one of the things that gets less skilled workers bargaining power is a prosperous economy. for example real wages for low-skilled workers in the united states have been falling and falling and falling since the mid-1970s except for one period. that one period was between 1995 and 1990 when the economy was at full emp

jeff kleintop joins us to talk about the market, he is the chief global strategist. why did stocks go up today, jeff, to more record highs? >> i think it is a big record increasingly. it looks like the scots will vote no. we see it in the pound today. stocks in europe were up a full percent today, doubling. they were quite a bit up 1.3%. this has been a big issue on the minds of investors, separatists movements across the world, including ukraine. this one in scotland, and the big issue is the uncertainty it can create. >> now jeff, here i thought you were going to say it had to do with the federal reserve keeping interest rates in status quo. maybe alibaba, to what extent do those play to what is happening on the street? >> i think alibaba may be a one-stock story, it is a chinese retailer, take a look at the stocks in china, it has not really generated a lot of excitement with them. or internet retailers still suffering from relatively high valuations. they have been slumping, as well. the excitement about alibaba, not spreading to the market. i think that is a one

our chief meteorologist jeff ranieri is with us. and jeff, this is not just impacting mexico. that wet weather is spreading. >> yeah. and we'll talk about those impacts here in just a minute. but i should also say that a category 3 hurricane is not just a strong storm. it is considered a major hurricane. so korea, it's strong for california standards, but on the world scale of things this again was a very potent blow to cabo san lucas. right now it has weakened to a tropical storm. winds at 65 miles per hour. we think it will stay a tropical storm at least for the next 24 hours heading off to the north, slightly to the east. by tomorrow morning winds at 50 miles per hour. so again, continuing to weaken. as we head into wednesday's forecast, winds at 35 miles per hour weakening down to a depression. but here's the problem. it's going to be heading right into arizona. at this point as a tropical disturbance by thursday, that's where the worst flooding threat will be. if you are headed that way to arizona, thursday's going to be the day to watch out. check out the flash flood wat
