let's bring in our chief meteorologist, jeff ranieri. this is just emotionally overwhelming. jeff. here comes the wind again. what are you seeing right now? well, it is gradually beginning to start to pick up out there across the mountains. now i just want to start all this off and let everybody know we're not expecting winds up to 100mph like we had last tuesday when all of this started, but it still is going to be very gusty and there still are some hot spots going on these fires. so we have the eaton fire near pasadena. also the palisades fire. with these fire warnings, winds will range 30 to 70mph coming out of the north and the east. that's that very dry santa ana wind. and we're going to be under these warnings until 11 p.m. on wednesday. i really see some much, much better wind forecast. very calm thursday, friday, even into this upcoming weekend. so let's take you into what we're seeing right now. palisades fire winds 15 to about 30. and here's the interesting thing. the way the wind is blowing, it could push some of the hot spots back on to where the fire is already burned

want to bring in chief meteorologist jeff ranieri? okay, jeff, let's talk about the timeline. how much rain and when are we going to see it? well, i think really in large part here, we're going to start to see that roll in as we head through tomorrow morning for the early commute. it's more north bay based. 5:00 in the morning. guerneville, santa rosa, novato getting in on the rain. we'd see that continue to develop over marin, napa, sonoma counties through 8:00 and then dropping some wet weather in san francisco over to concord, eventually making it down through the peninsula, east bay and close to the south bay by 11 a.m. and then there still will be some rain in the south bay here by 1 p.m, but this really gets out of here as we head through tomorrow night. rain totals not extremely high. i think overall we're averaging about a quarter to half inch for a lot of the bay area. you'll see 50/600 here in santa rosa, but much less to the south bay, just 18 hundredths here in san jose. okay, jeff, before you go, i want to ask you about the sierra snow. today was the first snow su

jeff is here. what are you seeing right now, jeff? wl, right now, winds are on and off 20 to 50mph.not the extreme extreme wind we had last week when it was up to that 7500 mile per hour range. we don't expect it to get that high. but anything, any kind of wind in these hot zones still could produce some embers that blow around. so that's why, of course, it's just under such high alert down here. so the palisades fire right now, gusts 15 to 35 in that fire zone. i can tell you today there was not a lot of hotspot activity from satellite data that we could find on that fire. so some good news there. eaton fire right now. wind gusts 15 to 25. so wind overnight and into tomorrow morning. still could get 20 to about 50 and some of the lower elevations, but i really think those 50 plus mile per hour gusts would be saved. unfortunately for the mountains, that's tomorrow morning through the early evening. red flag fire warning expires at 6 p.m. tomorrow, and then watch the wind as we head through thursday. you can see how all of that wind starts to exit, so looks pretty good on that wind f

jeff is here to talk about our weather as we kick off the week here, jeff. and we had some wind gusts overnight. those winds are beginning to calm down. but as we have been talking about in southern california, the winds are ramping up at this very hour. so in case you missed it, i wanted to continue to give you checks on what's happening down there. and this is a real time map of some wind gusts we're starting to see. it's more of a broad overview overview, but i think you get the big headline here. notice in the mountains you can see this red magenta color down there in southern california. that's winds of 40 to 50mph that are already starting. we could see it go up to 70mph all the way through the day on wednesday. eventually, by 11 p.m. on wednesday night, the red flag fire warning should be allowed to expire, and we'd get into much calmer conditions thursday and also friday. so next 48 hours is going to be really difficult down there. back here in the bay area, still some wind up into our northern mountains, 20 to about 50, some occasional gusts, but mo

let's get right to chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. and, jeff, you've been watching this windstorm. yeah. and i bet a lot of folks in southern california are going to stay up all night just to make sure if a fire breaks out, they're able to do what they need to do. it's just that kind of a situation with those gusts. what we're seeing right now is high pressure building over the pacific. low pressure starting to drop down over nevada. and that's what's helping to pick up this wind through the state. now, right now, it's not extremely bad for us. it's calm to about ten miles per hour. but you can see some of the bright colors in the central valley. that's some of the wind that is developing, with some gusts up to about 40mph. now, i do anticipate tomorrow morning and tomorrow afternoon and evening. we'll get some on and off gusts 15 to 45. a steady wind 10 to 20. and the top risk will be in the mountains 500ft and above. so even though we've had this wind, we've also thankfully had some rainfall recently. so that's helping us out on tha

let's bring in our chief meteorologist, jeff ranieri. jeff, now, just yet another fire. i mean, how much more does this wind go on? because if we've seen five fires now, big fires 24 hours in, 24 hours later, what are we going to be at? yeah, that's just the unknown at this point. we're, you know, not seeing gusts nearly as highgh as was this tie last night when we were getting gusts 90 to 100mph. but anything really around 50mph. and we're seeing or even a little bit less than that, we're seeing rapid rate of spread. so here's the deal. in terms of what we're watching right now. we've got the palisades fire. we have the hurst fire, also the eaton canyon fire in altadena, and then now the sunset fire. so i want to take you down here towards the sunset fire. this is the new one that just happened re in the past couple of hours. right now, gusts here coming out of the northwest 15 to 35mph. here's hollywood, west hollywood right there. you got runyon canyon. so this is a very well known area. and this fire, the way the winds are blowing, is pushing it down here towards the

all right, let's go straight to our chief meteorologist, jeff ranieri. jeff. initially, we thought those winds were going to come a little bit earlier, but now it's not until overnight. well, we're actually getting winds right now 20 to 50mph. and we're going to stay with some on and off gusts all the way through tomorrow. so the wind event, so to speak, it's already arriving. you can see right now here on the current map, we are watching both of those large fires, the eaton fire and the palisades fire. and the interesting thing about this is the way the wind is blowing now. it actually is blowing anything back onto itself. so that could certainly be helping firefighters tonight. and the way satellite detection is showing it today, there's really little to no hotspots flaring up on the eaton or the palisades fire. so some good news today. but we still got to be so extremely cautious with how dry everything is with these gusty winds right now, 20 to 40 mile per hour gusts in the palisades fire region up towards the eaton fire. i'm seeing some gusts right now, 1

let's bring in our chief meteorologist, jeff ranieri.nd really, when does this all come to an end? do we have a sense of it? well, really, as we continue through the next couple of hours, we're seeing most of that wind exit southern california. and this is after getting in on 40 to 65 mile per hour wind gusts up in the mountains. now, this was not nearly as widespread or as strong as last week where we did get those winds up to 100, but it still was pretty dangerous here the past 24 hours. palisade fire burn zone only 5 to 15mph in terms of that wind. also the burn scar here on the eaton fire just 5 to 15mph. so getting better on all fronts here. there's just one spot left, one holdout into tomorrow. that's in simi valley, san gabriel mountains, still some 15 to 40 mile per hour gusts. that's in effect until 3 p.m. tomorrow. but again, most of the warnings have expired. however, we are tracking some more wind chances early next week. i'll get you details on that and updated rain chances coming up later on. okay, jeff, we'll see you short
