. >> and i'm jeff barnd. >>> breaking news out of mount washington light rail station. police say a woman was struck by a train there. >> melinda is live with what happened there. >> reporter: it appears the woman was trying to cross the tracks behind me when she was suddenly struck by a light rail train. other riders say she was bleeding and does appear to have some injuries. she was rushed to the hospital. and we're told it does seem her injuries are not life-threatening. while we're until waiting for information from investigators, we did talk to other riders as to how this could have happened. to cross you would have to step out around the train to do so. they also saying many riders cross in a of hurry and there are curves on both sides of the tracks here, on both sides of this light rail stop, making it very difficult to see trains coming in either direction. so while they say it is very rare that someone is ever hit crossing the tracks, riders say they have seen plenty of near misses. mta officials are here on scene. they are still investigating and at that point

jeff barnd is off tonight. money and cops. the baltimore city police department is getting $10 million in federal stimulus funds. to help crackdown on crime. funds come from a grant program called "cops." keith daniels is here now to talk about what city cops plan to do with the money. keith? >> well, jennifer, police commissioner fred bealefield said money will be used to put more foot patrols on the street. now governor o'malley was in philadelphia today, taking part in the announcement with vice-president biden. maryland gets $23 million for eight police departments. baltimore city cut is 10 million. mayor sheila dixon said the money will be used to hire 50 new police officers, all of them, again, part of the foot patrols, as part of a strategy to help the department win back community trust. the federal government will pay officer's salaries and benefits, for three years. then local governments will have to pay. >> we anticipated this and that's why in the past, when we got cop's money and had to cover it. we did not want

. >> hello again, i am jeff barnd. >> and i am jennifer gilbert. topping the "late edition" tonight baltimore county coach charged with soliciting sex from a minor. >> karen parks standing by live at baltimore county police headquarters with the latest on the story tonight. karen? >> well, jeff, police say 32-year-old charles fridel attempted to solis sex from a 14-year-old and all started with a text found by her parents. now detectives say they were contacted july 6 from the victim's parents about inappropriate text messaging being sent from 32-year-old charles fridel to their 14-year-old daughter that is the sister of one of the players on the team fridel coaches. police say he requested explicit pictures from the girl and asked to meet her for sex. undercover detectives assume the girl's identified and continued to have conversations with fridel. set up a meeting and that's when he was arrested. he is charged with sexual exploitation of a child and possession of child pornography. >> this is a soccer coach that parents entrust. he has breached

jeff barnd is off tonight. maryland natural resources police continue the search tonight for a missing boater that was last seen sunday afternoon. 39-year-old clinton wallace of baltimore was out in a boat with friends about a mile offshore from mayo beach park in edgewater. police say he jumped into the water to swim. but after a few minutes he got tired and shouted for help. friends in the boat tried to throw him a life vest but could not get it to him in time. police hope the tragedy will remind everybody the importance of wearing a life vest in the water. >> remember, they float, you don't. and sometimes these accidents occur so quickly, you can't put them on. >> police say the water was especially choppy yesterday. because of the storms that rolled through. they will continue their search for, at least, the next couple of days. >> 22 people are shot in baltimore. four killed over the weekend. and tonight police and mayor sheila dixon are speaking out on the violence across the city. keith daniels is live a

. >> hello again, i am jeff barnd. >> and i am jennifer gilbert. second teenager has died, one day after he and another teen were found on the light rail tracks near the lutherville station. >> identified as connor peterson and kyle wankmiller 17. mta said the two were spotted lying on tracks 3:15 p.m. sunday. officials don't yet know how the victims died. but one passenger claims the teens were struck by a train. >> i would say that they were laying on the tracks, i would say, a little over an hour, sure. it is very feasible for me to believe that they were there for a good hour. from the time 2:15 hit initially to the 3:15 train, and the people actually realizing that they had hit children. >> mta officials say there is no obvious evidence that the teens were hit by a train. but they confirm one of the train cars sustained some sort of impact. >> young man is dead tonight after drowning in a dundalk creek. friends and witnesses say he may have had a seizure while swimming. melinda roeder has more on the tragedy, and the efforts to try to save him

. >> hello, i am jeff barnd. karen hamp tonight off. crime and justice investigation into how the swine flu played a role in the release of la maintain davis. joy lepola has the story you are seeing first on fox. >> new details surrounding a case that is unraveling at the department of juvenile services. fox 45 has uncovered in mid june, the department was scrambling to get as many juveniles as possible out of the city's detention center. because of a swine flu outbreak. >> on june 16, the department of juvenile services confirmed there was an hire outbreak at its facility here on day street. that's when sources close to the system, tell me a number of emergency hearings were called. lamont davis' case came two days after the outbreak. >> fox 45 has obtained the court order from that proceeding. and it clearly shows the detention review hearing took place on the 19th. but it wasn't until we reviewed the court proceeding on dbd that we had a chance to hear firsthand what was said. the prosecutor starts out addressing the master. saying,

. >> hello, i am karen parks, jeff barnd is off tonight. federal investigators are trying to figure out what caused a helicopter to crash on on interstate 70 killing all four people on board. it happened last night on the eastbound lanes of i-70 about 10 miles east of hagerstown. jeff abell has the latest on the investigation. >> 15 minutes after it took off from the hagerstown airport. this four seat robinson 44 helicopter crashed on interstate 70 and burst into flames. there were no injuries on the ground. but all four people on board were killed. >> the helicopter was flying east over interstate 70, it impacted power lines that i understand were about 70 feet above the ground. before hitting the ground. witnesses report areed that the aircraft was flying very low. that they saw sparks. flying before the aircraft hit the ground. and then a post crash fire, that substantially damaged the aircraft. >> if he had ram investors are probing the maintenance records and pilot records. and reviewing weather conditions at the time of the crash. >>
