bay soon to come. this is a live look at the very active radar. >> we remain in a microclimate weather alert. let's bring in chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. h bay will get hit the hardest. what about the rest of the bay area? will take a long time, 18 hours or so to get consistent rainfall across san jose. already today we've seen 2 inches of rainfall in guerneville, santa rosa over 1 inch, kent field close to an inch, san jose nothing at all. so the big focus, again, marin, napa, sonoma counties for that flood threat. russian river at guerneville again reaching flood stage by wednesday at 9:00 p.m. 38.6 feet will push some water into the low-lying besome of the homes in town. so please follow the local signs that are being put up and those precautions. it could bring similar water issues like we had just about two weeks ago. we are also watching the napa river in downtown napa going to 27 feet, just above flood stage by 4:00 a.m. on wednesday. this should not bring water into downtown napa, but we are going to, of course, closely monitor that. down in the south bay, guadalupe riverten expressway, that puts it at flood stage. we could see

for that question we go to nbc bay area's chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. jest, what are supposed to tell the people in forestville? >> i think the advice you're giving them is certainly the best, that is to stay inside and hunker down. we are going to see that water level rise just a little bit more, going to 45.6 feet by 9:00 p.m. tonight. you can see current reading is 44.6 feet. again, so a little bit more to go when we crest tonight at 9:00. we are going to have updates tonight when that does happen. and then we do start to see this drop below flood stage by early friday morning. now, as we have seen in the video that jessica just showed us, she's been talking to the residents. they have never seen anything like this, and that's because this now ranks as the 6th top worst flooding event. if we do reach that crest of 45.6 feet tonight, the worst ever was 49.7 feet in 1955. really not that far away from it a lot of folks, they have je just never seen it that high. evacuations were put in flas yesterday to get people out. why did the river get so high? an

. >> jeff, from pacifica to half moon bay and ft. funston, so many local beaches that are popular to walk and hike with these exact type of cliff sides here. i'm assuming with all the rain there's going to be dangerous conditions across our coastline? >> yeah, you're just going to add on to that. you get all of this rainfall like we've had in a short amount of time, the hillsides become so extremely heavy. you have any part of that that's jutting out and the weight just wins out. the gravity of it. that's likely what happened in this situation. some sort of weight from those recent rains that then did bring that hill down. the good news in the weather forecast, at least through this evening, even through this weekend, is we have some dry conditions. we'll get cloud cover moving in the next 24 hours. we're not expecting any rainfall. so that's also good for the rescue crews out there right now. we know -- we've heard in other cases, people have been able to survive for what seems like an extraordinary amount of time when they're burie

bay area. let's bring in our chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. happy monday to you. what do we have in store this week? >> we are looking at an active weather pattern coming our way. it will take some time for the rainfall to get here, so i wanted to go ahead and layout what we're looking at this week so you can kind of think about it and maybe any kind of plans you have. we have two different storm systems off to the north. these will move in wednesday into thursday. now, overall those song. what we'reelp to boost those rainfall totals is what is an atmospheric river, it is subtropical moisture, a ton of rainfall with this when the storm systems to the north interact with it, it, again, it help increase our totals across the bay area. that's why we have a flash flood watch issued from 11:00 p.m. tuesday into 8:00 p.m. thursday for the entire bay area. what does it mean for us? we could have some ponding on the roadways, creeks will be running very high, also some rapid rises on our river. here is an early look at what we are thinking right now. rainfall totals will

bay area. it is covered with water. it's not wet for everyone, though. this is the san mateo bridge. looks pretty dry for right now. >> yeah. >> but that will change, jeff it definitely will change tomorrow. the reason why we're seeing such drastic differences is the storm is actually stalling out over the north bay. that's what's increasing our flood threat. so the storm is mixing in with the atmospheric river and we have already seen 2 to 4 inches across the north bay, and we're going to see another couple inches as we move through tomorrow. so the highest flood threat is in the red. that's the flash flood watch. basically means that flooding can happen in a flash. in a split second, so you have to stay alert if you live near a creek, river or stream in marin, napa or sonoma counties. now, overall for the lower elevations we'll average for most of the bay area three quarters of an inch to 3 inches. the higher elevations in the north bay certainly are going to be in that 3 to 7-inch range. winds 30 to 50 mile per hour. we could see 4 feet in the highest elevation. when do we dry out. that's what you want to know. thursday and friday we'll get drying in
