jeff chirico just arrived at the scene. he joins us now with the very latest. jeff. >> reporter: monica, this is as close as we can get right now. the fire took place about a quarter mile down that driveway. right now the fire is out but as you said, that apartment complex is destroyed. more than three dozen people are without a home tonight. let's show you what it looked like from chopper6 hd this afternoon. the fire was reported around 2:30. firefighters found flames shooting from the rooftop of this three-story apartment complex. we're told at least four people were injured including two police officers from lakewood. they were first on the scene and suffered smoke inhalation while rescuing a resident who was screaming for help. now, i spoke with the mayor he says those officers will be okay. that resident was more seriously injured and flown to a hospital. now, firefighters were able to put out the fire but as you can see, that rooftop is completely gone. it is destroyed. they are still on the scene at this point putting out the hot spots on that three-story
