fox 29's jeff cole is tracking what happened over the weekend and joins us now live from the newsroom. >> reporter: ray evers is a captain who heads the department's criminal intelligence unit. he also served as the police spokesperson who often appeared in front of tv cameras. the department says the assault has left him with significant injuries. police tell fox 29 the incident happened early saturday morning in front of evers south philadelphia home. a car belonging to his girlfriend was vandalized and items were stolen say police. while on the street evers apparently told a man to stop taking pictures of the incident. the man allegedly punched evers once and again after evers chased him. the veteran of the force suffered a broken nose. he was not at work today. and did not answer his phone when fox 29 called. now, police say they've identified the alleged attacker and he's expected to turn himself in to south detectives. the department's internal affairs unit is investigating. police say that is routine when off duty cops are involved in incidents. lucy. >> all right, thank you ve
