we are seeing an interest in congress, people like jeff denham who do have a more diverse district.a vote on the issue of immigration. specifically on daca, getting those protections for those kids who were brought here as children by their parents. there's a huge push for that among that particular group of republicans, certainly democrats want that as well, but on the right, on the republican side, it is an issue that animates republican voters like no other. the sense that the country is being invaded. taking jobs. it's something that the president plays up. the ads out there on tv, more than any other ad to help republicans by independent groups, talking about immigration. it is the issue that animates both sides so much. so it's hard to see whether there will be any consensus built. perhaps if the leadership, if paul ryan and mitch mcconnell are devoted to something, that appears to be a piece of legislation, but then the president has to sign it. he knows what's going on out there. he knowsed applause lines he's getting. it's hard for me to see that he's going to give democrat

now i want to bring in republican congressman jeff denham. i know immigration is an issue personal to you, close to your heart. you have been working hard to try to get immigration reform up for a vote in the house. and we did see a vote last week which failed miserably. the legislation that was put up, it was crafted by republicans alone, went down in a ball of fury, of flames. how do you go back home now to your constituents on recess and explain to them as these families remain in limbo there is nothing happening right now in washington? >> first of all, i did have the language in that bill that actually would keep families together. as a father, i don't ever want to see kids pulled away from their parents. i know i'd always do whatever it took to keep my kids with me as a family unit. and so we did have that language in the bill. unfortunately, we did not get one democrat on this. even though most of the bill was the same as the gang of eight that every democrat in the house and senate supported. so we've got some work ahead of us. a lot

here to help me understand what's going on, can be congressman joaquin castro of texas and jeff denham of california who has been running points on this issue as far as i can tell and can tell us exactly what happened. congressman denham, members of your caucus have gotten together what's called a discharge petition, enough signatures a majority of members of the house. you can bring something to the floor immediately to get a vote. in some respects on the daca eligible folks to give them statutory protections. you go into a meeting with republican leadership to work out a deal and what happens? >> we certainly had a very good discussion as we have in many of our different meetings. we had that same discussion with the entire republican conference. i would say it was very productive. it was a good conversation. but ultimately, you can't have an agreement till something is put on paper so that we can not only share that with the american public but certainly know the parameters of any agreement. >> i'm just going to translate that for you. you tell me if i'm translating it correctly. yo

what does jeff denham and corals car bello and mike kaufman -- right, what do they do next?actual question here is that in the rub, with pulling it, you are right, they usually do. but they promised them a vote. they promised them a vote in exchange for dropping the discharge petition. and i think that if moderates don't get a chance to vote on this bill, you are going to see that anger boil over. there is already conversations about another discharge petition around another bill in a frankly would be further to the left than this compromise that they have worked out. the democrats would probably be more excited about that bill that heard and aguilar have been working on. people shorthand it as the heard/aguilar bill. i think there would be outrage against the speaker if he didn't go ahead with the vote. they said fine we will delay it try to convince people but i have trouble seeing the fundamental underlying dynamics here changing much between now and tomorrow morning. >> the good lat bill, did it get more votes than you expected. >> in some ways, yes but not really. i thi
