northern virginia bureau chief jeff goldberg is outside of the police headquarters what we know so far here. jeff? jeff: this is a story we've been working on since early morning and it certainly brought a lot of shock and surprise to members of the fairfax police department. we have been speaking with throughout the day today. here is what we know right now. we can tell you that yesterday, an officer within the department was relieved of his duty. his badge and his gun taken away and an investigation is currently ongoing into potential criminal activity. now, the nature of those potential crimes has not been made public. but sources are telling us the investigation stems from the child exploitation unit within the department. as of right now, no charges have been filed. no arrests have been made and the officer's name has not been released. again, this is a developing story that is leading to quite a bit of stunned reactions within the fairfax county police department. we expect to have a lot more information on this situation possibly, possibly tonight. and certainly early next week.
