jeff guzzetti worked as a safety investigator for the federal aviation administration, as well as then tv in the last few weeks. jeff, thanks for being with us. you're a commercial pilot. you're trained as a commercial pilot. does anything about that video give you a better understanding than you had yesterday? about what? what we may be looking for. does it allow you to rule certain things out and keep certain things in? >> good evening. yeah. so it does look like it's a hard landing as opposed to a wing being dragged, hitting a snow bank or something. it doesn't appear to be a hard landing. i would expect airplanes to float. and i know you're a pilot. typically you want to come over the threshold and float a bit and then flare and touch down. this was a very firm landing. now it was crosswind conditions. perhaps that's why it was a firm landing. but the investigation is going to have to determine whether or not that right. main landing gear, which collapsed and went up through the wing and caused the wing to come off, was experienced forces that exceeded its design. i think that's w

joining me now, jeff guzzetti, former faa and former ntsb investigator and an nbc aviation analyst. jeff, thank you very much for being here. what stood out to you from this update? >> good evening. jonathan. there were several things that stood out. this was a there was a lot of information that was put out by the ntsb, and i thought they did a good job of doing that. the they got good data from both the cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder from the crash captured everything. and they're going to do a full transcript of it. they retrieved the recorder for the black hawk helicopter, which also has cockpit voice recording as well as flight data, but they haven't had a chance to download that yet. they're going to be working on that right now. so that's good news in terms of getting data from those four recorders, really. and then they went through a very detailed timeline. and i guess what stood out to me mostly. is one second before the collision, the crjs nose pitched up, and that would indicate that perhaps the crew of the crash was making a. you may have spotted the

jeff guzzetti is an nbc news aviation analyst. so, jeff, walk us through what you're seeing in that video. well, in the first video, you can see that the helicopter, you know, it's approaching the right wing. it actually, in my view, strikes the left wing. and then you can see the right wing still intact, begin to roll and you can see the airplane roll. and you also see the body of the helicopter continue through. in the second video, it shows that the helicopter is flying level while the airliner is descending slightly after the collision. again, you see the airplane roll almost more than 360 degrees before impacting the water. meanwhile, the u.s. coast guard, playing a key support role along the river with about 200 people helping divers, securing the search perimeter and protecting private boats from debris. we have ntsb, army corps engineer, navy supervisor of salvage, all those entities. we're just trying to make sure they're protected while they're doing what they need to do, as well as protecting other responders. that was n
