the weather is next week jeff harrington coming up after that. it's going to be inside story bothersome. ah hello there. despite the arrival of some very wet and windy weather across southern parts of europe, it's still a story of blistering heat. as we start the week, we're going to see temperatures continue to rise across southern parts of portugal and spain as that hot air rises from the north of africa. now just thought to dry up across morgan areas of spain. the rain is still they across much of france and look at that's nasty conditions. moving across central parts of it, the wind warnings out some of the islands in the mediterranean. no thunderstorms are set to push their way further east knocking temperatures down. we will see that wet weather as well. edging across into greece by tuesday. further north of this, it has been an improved picture for northern parts of central europe, faces like germany, as well as poland, seeing clear skies and sunshine. well, that's going to change as the weather weather skirts its way further east knocking

rain is to come home and i'll just say, well let's get an update from our where the present to jeff harrington. so jeff, why so much rain all at once? yeah, good question fully. we have to look at the content and as a whole. so, surprisingly, most of africa is actually in the tropics. so we get tropical rain as far south as the tropic of capricorn. and when we talk about tropical rain, this is the type of rain that is intense and persistent, and leads to flooding is also tropical rain, around the equator. it gets a bit north of that, but not much further than that. and that's of course, in africa you have this a hard desert and so it's incredibly dry. but we also have to remember at this time of year there is a transition into the northern hemisphere summer time. so that means the bulk of the tropical rain is falling across the equator. let's consider where rwanda is. it's about 2 degrees south of the equator. so no surprise then for rwanda, it's why this month's of the year in april and they yeah, of course. here we are in may, and we should also look at other factors as well. climate change

so for more on the weather and let's bring in our weather presenter jeff harrington . so jeff, is there more rain on flooding forecast correctly? right, so the reading, the rain is beginning to peter out in northeast italy. i mean, we just saw her as shot there. mostly cloudy sky, no rain falling at the time. so i think the focal point today on saturday will be as we head toward north west italy, keep in mind the dark of the blue and the yellow popping up on our map here. that is more intense rain, but i think most of the action will actually be happening over the higher ground in the elves. but there is a threat of seeing some flash flooding in the south of france. so for busy a, by the way, one of the oldest cities and friends, so we'll keep tabs on whether that happens, but got to take you to the central mentor training. we've got a developing storm system here. i'm gonna take everything off though for a 2nd and talk about the topography here because as bad as this will be, i don't think we're going to see the same level of funding that we saw in northern italy, so y

here's why the presenter jeff harrington. you know, jeff, only 24 hours ago we were talking about wild fires in, in north america and in canada. now we're just talking about funding and drive it in europe. what's going on? right. and rob, it's not just flooding in northern italy, we've also had flooding in the southeast of croatia, which we've reported as well. so let's talk about exactly what is going on. we look at our satellite image right here. this is rain bearing cloud and it's just swirling around the age riata, and it's within rain around all sides of the age. radek. see? and truthfully the storm system has just been parked over this area. so again, if we talk a bit more about this setup, what happens is you get a cold air rushing south. it meets up with warm air there to collide. and that sparks storms right in this zone around the age or attic, see in the central mediterranean as well. so again, that cold air rushing south, that's the arrows that you can see there. and it needs up with the warmish see water if we're

we have our weather presenter, jeff harrington, who's joining us now with the forecasts for that area. so i mean jeff, those pictures. wow. 1.6 meters of water. let's take a step back and talk about how we got here in the 1st place. yeah, absolutely. you know, the read the weather is set up for this part of the world. it's not unusual, but there was one key difference. so we're going to go over all of that right now. but basically the bottom line is you have warm and cold air by clean it out. and in that zone it sparks storm. so go on a bit of a tour right now. we've got the arrows on. so look at this cold air rushes cells. it then passes over the warm water. so in this case, start reading, it was over the age, radix, see, and again, when you get that combination, that's what sparks the storm. so i want to take this a few days back. now this is our satellite, this will show the rain bearing cloud, but look at it during just swirling around in the adria addict. so that was the difference this time around is that this storm system just parked itself here in the adria addict. so there wa

let's bring it out whether presenter jeff harrington. just why is the rain quite so intense? well, 1st off, nist, as you know, we have to look at the continent as a whole. so, you know, surprisingly, most of africa is actually in the tropics. we get tropical rain as far south as a tropic of capricorn. tropical rain is that persistent, intense rain that leads to flooding. we get tropical rain around the equator, just north of that, but it doesn't get much further than that. because of course we've got this hot desert which is incredibly dry. but at this time of the year when we make that transition into the northern hemisphere summer, while that rain is falling rate across the equator and just north of it. so for countries like we're wanda, april, may there's some of your whether it's months of the years, so this is what we would call seasonally correct. you know, some years or worse than others, we've got to factor in climate change. there is more energy in the atmosphere. that means there is more moisture, so some years will be worse than others. this is a bad year. there's

here's our weather presenter jeff harrington showing us when that storm will strike a while. the west coast of the bar has not been threatened by a storm quite like this in more than a decade. hi everyone. we're talking about tropical cycle and mocha in the bay of bin gall. let's go in here for a closer look because it is rapidly intensifying, is cooking up here in the bay of bengal. as it hits toward the west coast of myanmar. we're thinking the land fall at this point will probably be at some point on sunday, but it is wrapping around a lot of rain and wind. probably that line fall. i suspect just to the east of cox's bizarre. but anyway, you look at it, this is going to be catastrophic. so ahead of that line, fall sustained winds 220 kilometers per hour. wave heights i think easily in excess of 8 meters, and then storm surge, 2 meters high. so this is basically a wall of water coming in at you, all of that to say this will be equal to a category for hurricane ahead of that sunday line fault. so let's talk specifically cox's bizarre what this means for you easily. those win
