jeff hinton in his two students that were bought they had in the jeanette lament - - image net is a collectionof photos to build a system to recognize everything in the photos. that was the brainchild. i was talking to her and i talked to her advisor as well. there was a moment between them and said i want to do image net and was betting her career and he said that was not the way to go she should not do it that was not the thing to back her career on and she did it anyway. that's another piece that had to be in place for this kind of thing to work. >> at such a powerful thing for success. >> yes. it is complicated but i wish it was in their. sometimes you make choices for narrative. and for flow. so you make these hard decisions. but again, we need to step back and think about the decision we made. whoever we are to say did i make a mistake there? does that need to go when the next time? host: how quickly did you write the book? >> i wrote it over the course of about two and a half or three years. i made the mistake of agreeing to write a book and joined "the new york times" the same week. ne
