joining me now retired secret service supervisor, agent jeff james who served on presidential detailsrst and foremost for your service. the secret service has said the perimeter is under local law enforcement purview. can you help us understand that? >> well, that is a little bit misleading. look, when the secret service comes in and does a site, we owned the entire package. now, we typically utilize state and local law enforcement for outer perimeter for us, but that doesn't mean they are not working under the guise of the secret service umbrella. so what i think will be interesting to find out is when a site agent set up the security, did he go to his local law enforcement, who are going to be on the outer perimeter and give him specific type directions like the outcome of this trip has been a cause of concern for us. make sure somebody has eyes on it and may have said to someone, hey, look, you guys just be general observation. main goal in the crowd and look for anything unusual. but there are also many times where if they didn't, they should give specific instructions to post to

the ground in the walkie here think you might character and is now retired secret service agent jeff jamespolice chief -- chief of police at morgan university. good to have you with this cheap. >> they queue for having a shannon. >> shannon: who will put up a map so people can see this seen from yesterday and give an overview with everyone asking questions. the investigation is fully underway. what is your assessment of what we know so far after hearing from multiple witnesses saying they were pointing out that shooter on the roof, we know time can be very deceptive when you're in the middle of one of these urgent situations but, you know, multiple witnesses say they played it for multiple people on the ground and yet the shooting happened. >> what is important to remember is the map that you are seeing on the screen where the shooter is from where president trump would have been weird being told i've heard everywhere from 130 to 160 years. our snipers train out to 1000 years. if you took that same google view and blew it out to 1000 yards, that's everything though slavers are responsible

retired secret service agent jeff james, he joins us now. jeff, thanks for being here. really go anywhere you want. i mean, was standard protocol missed here? was it followed hear? what was your perspective of the sort of before, during and after? >> well, one of the things i want to say about the commentary regarding the sniper teams is i think it's an easier task when you're looking at that picture that we're all seeing that just encompasses that small part of the fair grounds. the secret service sniper teams train out to 1,000 yards. that's the targets they look for. so i think if you would expand that picture out to cover 1,000-yard pie and then realize that one sniper team has 180 degrees of responsibility in that pie, there's probably a lot more targets that they're eyeing than just those buildings that are right there in that short distance. there's tree line. there's elevated natural features. there's homes. so that's the one thing i would say is they're looking at a lot more than just those buildings sitting right there in front of them around again it's not ju

let's ask retired secret service agent jeff james mr.ining us this morning. >> how are you charlie? charlie: these rallies are massive and present pretty unique problems in and of themselves what are the security steps they have to take to make them more secure? >> over the last two weeks these are the hardest things i did in the 22-year career big ever changing outdoor events and the problem you have with it is sight lights go off for thousands of yards like we saw in butler, pennsylvania. you could look around and just see dozens of homes miles of treeline businesses, and it is tough. the only thing i believe that secret service is going to be able to do now is extend its perimeter out, and maybe use overlapping sniper teams to stretch out thousand yard team reach even further but the problem is that comes back to needing manpower which has always been biggest lynch opinion in putting events together. charlie: as somebody not in secret service watching this. you look at what happened two weeks ago an you're struck by obvious and glarin

retired secret service agent jeff james who worked on george w.r joining us. we have all seen the same map and we have seen a small map and we've asked the same question, how did someone get on that roof and get so close to the former president of the united states? do you think we are looking at the images the right way? jeff: yes and no. we are looking at them in the right way because that is in such close proximity to where the former president was that someone should've had responsibility for that area. ultimately this is going to fall on the secret service. even though the outer perimeter of sites is usually managed by local and state law enforcement, it is up to the site agent who put all the security together for that site to give clear and direct orders to those people to say this is your field of responsibility. make sure you manage it. this roof is a concern. if you see anyone trying to get up there make sure you stop them. that is one of the ways it is pertinent it is a small map. the weight is not pertinent is when you look at the snip

building outside the security perimeter, about 130 yards from former president trump on stage, jeff james, a former secret service agent, says one of the big questions that needs to be answered is how crooks access that site. >> that site agent should have given one of those personnel very clear, strict, codified instructions. hey this is your responsibility. don't let anybody up there. if that happened and that local law enforcement official was distracted or chose not to hold that post or whatever, then that's the fault of them. but if that agent didn't give those clear, concise, codified instructions instructions, then that is the fault of that agent. some witnesses took cell phone video as they saw crooks crawling on the roof where he opened fire, james says. >> another important question is why the usual communication to the central command center seemed to have failed. >> somebody sees somebody on the roof, they radio, they say, hey, security room. i got a guy in the roof over here. everybody in there sees it or hears it, rather, and then they push it out to their respective agencie

. >> today we spoke with jeff james, a former secret service agent.he says one of the big questions that does need to be answered is how thomas crooks accessed that building. >> here's what should have happened when that site agent from the secret service was setting up security, there should have been a briefing that morning. and what should have happened is one of our one of our law enforcement partners, who the ones that were there that day were pennsylvania state police, butler county sheriff's and police. butler city police, and so on. one of them should have been assigned by that agent to say, hey, this roof has been a concern for us, and we know that now. we know they talked about it during the week that it was concerning. this roof has been a concern, it's outside the perimeter, but we still don't want anybody up there. >> james says this is not the fault of local law enforcement, because they work directly under the secret service. >> is this problem systemic in the secret service, if it's not, if this was just the fault of that one agent. ok

nothing to be ashamed of. hackers can get to just about anybody walk through a tech james, bill gates even most and jeff pays us have in common. all 3 have that with the accounts hacked in one of them most raising scams. in reason he is in 2020 heck us treated our questionable investment proposals from numerous celebrities accounts. they don't use us to send the bid con and promise to double the investment to some, to where the use of it seemed like a good opportunity to scan was quickly uncovered and the culprits were later convicted. still, those cameras were able to catch a big con with some 100000 euros. honda sing the power of celebrity for get rich quick schemes, a match made in scamming haven't. if you can take over a celebrities, twitter account and tweet some nasty things, you know, cause a lot more confusion then if it's an unknown person ends. of course, people with either money or high enough of a profile to, to get the money. that is a lot of money to be made from stone and identities, but some countries affected more than others. in 2022 over 27000000 people with victims of identity theft

let's take a look at retired secret service agent jeff james.ed about questions surrounding security at saturday's event. >> what's important to remember is the map that you're seeing on the screen, where the shooter is, from the -- from where trump would have been, we're told from 130 to 160 yards. our snipers train out to 1,000 yards. so if you took that same google view and blew it out to 1,000 yards, that's everything those snipers are responsible for. so it gets tough. they may have been looking at what they thought was another perceived target behind him. if this actually happened and peep were saying, there's guy up there, they may have been looking at an elevated natural feature in the tree line behind those buildings. it is an incredibly heavy lift to see all of that all at once. which is one of the reasons they work in pairs. but when you think about it, it wasn't just that 130 to 160-yard distance they were looking at, they're looking at almost 10 times that. and in 180 degrees. so it's a lot to see all at once and with people yelling
