course a portion of my conversation with arne duncan, and joining me from the msnbc, grio.com, jeff johnsonl be alongside me sunday when we host from detroit a stronger america making the grade, jeff, it is great to see you, and we have a big weekend ahead of us and we have the easy part to talk to the brightest minds and the passionate parents on the subject that affects everyone and certainly what to do with education. and what are you looking forward to sunday? >> well, i think that we will cover a great deal of ground. i mean from talking about early childhood education to innovation to what it really take takes in a local community to make a school work. we are going to cover a lot of ground, but i'm encouraged by and i think that you and i have a difficult job in making sure that we are pushing people to give solutions. you and i both know that in the discussions so often we pontificate on the problem, but we have the kind of panel who can show and a example of solutions working in certain parts of the country, and people out there want to hear that. >> and you know, we have, again, a

msnbc contributor jeff johnson is live in atlanta, georgia, where the mayor is taking on some aggressive take on jobs here. jeff, you know, qassim reed saying every business in that town should hire one person. how does that look now? >> you know, coming from detroit into atlanta, it's almost like a paradise, but clearly the mayor here understands the need for the private sector to step up, to be able to do in many cases what government cannot, which is create opportunity. >> you know, you and tamron were in detroit talking about jobs. it was somewhat heated in that town hall meeting, as you and i were both experiencing it. the members of the congressional black caucus, for instance, got an earful from frustrated residents in the area that you were at. they just simply want to hear more. the issue of 16% unemployment to be tackled there, rate for the african-american communities across the country. let's show folks first what representative maxine waters said. >> are people are hurting. >> yes, ma'am. >> the unemployment is unconscionable. we don't know what the strategy is. we don't kno

jeff johnson contributor to msnbc joins me now from detroit.e about the turnout and host there doing the hiring? >> like we mentioned earlier, there are upwards of 5,000 people that are here in detroit that have been standing in line since 6:00 a.m. i had the opportunity to talk to a young man in particular who was here received an mba from hampton university and is still looking for work. but the kind of people that are here, contessa, are the government sector actually is the largest sector that's here with an incredible contingent of opportunities. i talked to somebody from coca-cola that talked about wanting to expand manufacturing in detroit. i talked to somebody from at&t that said, and i quote wanted to invest in detroit and america through technology. there are people here from all forms and sectors of the business community. although there are only 0 representing 2,000 jobs, i think it's a move in the right direction. >> jeff johnson reporting from detroit. jeff, thanks a lot. appreciate that. >>> stocks are lore today on new worries a

jeff johnson is contributor for msnbc, and thegrio.com and joining us from cleveland, ohio, where he will host a town hall tonight. jeff, where are the jobs in people are showing up there, and it is nice to network and meet people, but you want to believe that you can go in there and land a job. >> well, i think that the cbc has been incredibly concerned about that. there is over 200 employers here, and while the cbc has told folks they can't guarantee how many people will get jobs the start is having a partnership between employers who have potential employment, and a workforce prepared to go back. in the state of ohio, you are talking about three unemployed people for every job opening here. and just this morning, tamron, there were people lined up as early as 5:00, and they have said they have seen 2,000 to 3,000 people come through here already, and so you are right, there is a real issue of how many jobs are available, and things like this are connecting the jobs that are there with the people ready to work. >> i should remind people that you can see the town hall that jeff is go
