let's turn things over to jeff ranieri. jeff, we needed this, quick punch of rain here. >> yeah, the first widespread measurable rainfall of november arrived early this morning, with a most complex of wet weather right there across the peninsula and also the south bay. so for the south bay, something we have not seen a lot of over the past year, and that was widespread cloud cover here in our weather underground time lapse network throughout the morning hours and also rain that totalled over a half inch for a lot of the higher elevations in the south bay. so, how did we do on the rainfall totals? well, probably rain from the top three storms of the past 12 months here for san jose, you can see for parts of the south bay we had .15 downtown, .24 iniesta and nearly a half inch. the peninsula also did really well when it came to those rainfall totals, pillar point, .42, .64 there across kings mountain. .43 in san carlos, and check it out, redwood shores also at .33, as well. now, we are not done with this rainfall just yet. we

jeff ranieri joins us now.y strong storm. >> right now offshore we are find two particularly strong storm cells. it's remnants of the main storm that moved across. we do want to let you know along with the national weather service, we're tracking two areas of major concern. there has been some rotation within some very heavy downpours may actually produce a waterspout. we haven't seen any waterspouts or had any reports of those. but for those of you near san gregorio along the coastline, you need to take shelter and head inside. very heavy rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches an hour moving in at the current moment. we don't have any tornado watches or warnings right now. but there is the chance here we could get some rotation with this thunderstorm, and it could even get a little bit more severe. we're going to continue to realistic that for you and this heavy rain continues all the way throughout the evening. we also want to bring some other areas of note. san jose getting some heavy rainfall this afternoon and ev

we begin with jeff ranieri tracking what's coming our way next. >> you can see storm system we're dealing with right now, then also that second storm system well offshore. the one that we're dealing with at the moment is still holding on. it's barely there. it's enough that it is producing some scattered areas of drizzle and also some light showers tonight throughout the south bay, near mountain view, also towards fremont as well, and throughout the east bay we're finding a few areas of scattered showers. in terms of rainfall totals from our weather underground rain gauges it was the worst here. coming down the heavy nest the north bay. up against the immediate coastline it was close to 1 inch for totals. you head inland, it was decent but it wasn't the end all, be all storm of the season. .34 in petaluma. .47 in novato. mill valley .81. for the peninsula we saw little to nothing throughout palo alto. montara picks up .69. the loser is south bay. trace amounts to .01 inches. in terms of the next storm, this has a better shot of rain for those down in the south bay. we're tracking this sto

we begin with jeff ranieri tracking what's coming our way next. >> you can see storm system we're dealingh right now, then also that second storm system well offshore. the one that we're dealing with at the moment is still holding on. it's barely there. it's enough that it is producing some scattered areas of drizzle and also some light showers tonight throughout the south bay, near mountain view, also towards fremont as well, and throughout the east bay we're finding a few areas of scattered showers. in terms of rainfall totals from our weather underground rain gauges it was the worst here. coming down the heavy nest the north bay. up against the immediate coastline it was close to 1 inch for totals. you head inland, it was decent but it wasn't the end all, be all storm of the season. .34 in petaluma. .47 in novato. mill valley .81. for the

let's bring in the chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. >> as you mentioned there's been numerous cancellations across the east coast. what we're going to take you to first is where there are delays currently due to weather you. can see across this entire map there aren't any delays across the west coast. midwest, down heard toward texas. the only delays due to weather at this very moment impacting arriving and departing flights is at newark at 128 minutes behind. this has been fluctuating also in boston and new york, but right now the planes are able to land and take off. again, anyone flying to new jersey in the next couple of hours, you're going to be facing those delays. now, we're tracking two different systems. one across the midwest and one toward the northeast. we do expect wet, windy, snowy conditions to continue in the northeast through tonight. that's where the delays are likely. a weaker system is going to produce a little bit of light snow and also some wind. now, for the bay area, we're tracking our next storm system. it's five hours away. eventually, yes, that's going to deterior

here's jeff ranieri. >> couldn't be more excited in the weather department. our approaching storm system continues to get closer, as we mentioned earlier. it's finally starting to get its act together. over the past two hours we've seen cloud cover increase off the bay. any rain returns, even on a wide scan, are way off to the north and well offshore. eventually, the pattern is going to be changing. the most disruptive thing we have happening in the sky camera network is the cloud cover moving in. also a colder night, temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s. a beautiful shot from our weather underground camera here in belvedere. you can see the low clouds that extend from the north bay, way, way on back toward san francisco and down the peninsula as well. we've got the same scenario across the south bay from our mount hamilton camera. you can see the high clouds that have moved in up above, even including loss gatos as well. let's take you through the forecast, and you can see at 6:00 tonight, we still have the heaviest rain returns well offshore. so again,

chief meteorologist jeff ranieri is tracking the radar. when those showers move in, we're still talking about a wednesday event. >> it's about 860 miles away right now. it's going to be such a huge departure from the past seven to ten days so eventually, yes, this storm system is going to be getting closer. we think on wednesday we pinpointed it to 5:00 at night with that rainfall offshore. we'll see the first wave move in right through about 9:00 in the evening. we'll have details on how long that rain lasts throughout your forecast, but the other thing on top of that, not one storm but several storm systems will beelining up. we'll have details on how much rain this could mean for us. >>> we're following developing news on the peninsula. it started as a burglary in menlo park and escalated into a deadly confrontation. police say during the chase the suspect pointed a gun at police and that's when an officer opened fire. here's where it happened, just after noon today in an upscale part of town near the headquarters for "sunset" magazine.
