let 'eers turn to chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. jeff. >> it's not as bad as it had been. be with our camera positioned up above 3,000 feet, you can still see that thick layer of haze. still moderate air quality from the north bay down to the south bay with the haze and the smoke also in the atmosphere. as we get a look right now the storm radar doppler scan which we'll be able to see, we have this active this afternoon right now in dublin. that's where we've had a lot of thick haze and our radar is actually picking up a little bit of green dots here. that is actually some of the poor air quality related to the smoke moving up from the south. right now the tri-valley, the smoke and haze is worth there. we're going to talk more about storm ranger and more importantly how it's going to change across the bay area. here you can see it across this live picture. it's not just the weather station. on the back is a high powered doppler radar. again, we'll have more details on this in just a few minutes. >> thanks, jeff. if you want to learn more about our nbc bay area storm ranger

thanks so much, chris. >>> jeff ranieri rejoins us.re talking obviously our regular forecast but also what firefighters are dealing with and all those people looking to get back to their homes in lake county. >> yeah, definitely is very hot. as you know with those low humidities. we're going to see temperatures change a little bit for tomorrow. it's not as cool as i would like. but definitely going down. we also want to get you the latest here on the bayly fire in south san jose. we have full coverage at nbcbayarea.com. you want to check that out. when it comes to the weather where they're still monitoring plenty of hot spots, we currently have 86 degrees. winds not too gusty out of the northwest at 10. humidity at 36%. we'll see temperatures drop into the 70s by 9:00 p.m. tonight. the lake county fire which is called the clayton fire, currently 96 degrees. down from 99 just this past hour. low humidity at 20%. and we will see numbers dipping down into the 80s by 8:00 and also 9:00. as we get a look at the trend for tomorrow, you an se

jeff ranieri tells us who felt it the most and have there been aftershocks? get a closer fix on this. the places that felt it the most is lake port and clear lake. 11.5 miles below the surface. aftershocks, two of them above a 2.5 and one is a 2.7 and another is a 3.0 at 8:24. details in the forecast in about 15 minutes. >> see you shortly. new video of fires burning near lake county. two residences burned and home his to be evacuated. they popped up in the lower lake and seeingler canyon area. >> a serial shooter struck again in san jose. a total of ten occupied vehicles have been hit on or near blossom hill road. we have a report. >> the two most recent shootings happened off of blossom hill road last week. this is before someone gets killed. the vehicle shootings that began in may continue. more shootings in late yell and most recently this past thursday and friday. neighbors are on edge. the shootings happened after mid-night in the area of blossom hill road. an area some avoid after dark. >> it will be the situation and we have to worry about it. >> each

that's tonight at 10:00 after the olympics. >>> our chief meteorologist jeff ranieri is here. the south bay is really hazy. is that from the fire from big sur. >> definitely, plus a combination of pour ire quality across the bay area. so a tough day if you have allergy or respiratory problems. i do want to get you outside to a live view. you can see it with your ownize off to the distance just how hazy it is here across the santa clara valley right now. currently in san jose, 84 degrees. also notice the humidity up to 52% today, a bit of southerly winds bringing in smoke from the fire, is also hoping to increase our humidity. we will see temperatures drop off into the 70s, and then eventually 60s tonight. as we push ahead, we get that typical fog moving back in. fog also across the peninsula and low 50s. for the south bay, it will remain hazy to smoky, and 60s. a look at the weather pattern continues to show this hot area of high pressure across the pacific. that will still bring heat for the weekend, but what we are still watching is this trough of low pressure. it's rather w

jeff ranieri is here now. >> we're good. we've taken storm rarng, moved it to a new location today and we are beginning to pick up some stuff. as we get a live look outside, here is storm ranger. if haven't heard, check out the hash tag on twitter. there's plenty of information being shared and an nbc bay area.com. what you see on the right is the doppler radar. as joe, our photographer up there manning the truck, continues to zoom around, you can see the satellite dish on the top of the truck and twars the left, the beautiful view there from twin peaks towards downtown san francisco, which is showing the fog that is moouing in right no. as we get a look at the scanning sweep of storm ranger, the really cool thing about this tool is while there is not any rainfall, no storms moving in, with the high resolution of the radar along with the doppler, we are able to show you some of that mid level moisture that's producing a little drizzle. now, there's a little clutter near the radar that's typical, but what we're noticing here

i'm meteorologist jeff ranieri. i'm tracking conditions on the fire lines with our fire in morgan hill, plus a hotter weekend in just a few minutes. we want to give you an update on breaking news in morgan hill. a fire continues to burn near uvas reservoir... just west of 101. so far -- it's burned 15 acres... off uvas and >>> this is near the reservoir, west of 10. so far, it's burned 15 acres, you can see cal fire has launched air support and it's helping with water drops. this is very visible from highway 101. it's generated a lot of smoke. 30 homers on sheila road and a bed and breakfast and a winery are in the area. no one has been evacuated, but they're being warned. >>> a case of animal cruelty in the east bay. a cat was shot in the head. the owner said she's struggling to get help finding the shooter. elise joins from walnut creek. >> well, the pet owner says she contacted police here and while they were helpful, she was redirected to animal control. she said that agency wasn't so responsive, but we found th

jeff ranieri joins us with more. jeff. >>> i thought what i would do is push into tomorrow's forecast for the air quality, and it will be at the good levels in the north bay primarily due to a stronger onshore push of cooler, cleaner marine air. still at moderate levels for east bay, peninsula and also for the south bay. i want to go ahead and switch into some of that cleaner, cooler air that's moving in right now. you can see it from our belvedere camera looking back towards san francisco on our weger underground sky camera network. that is a marine level thick at about 2,000 feet. we have stormranger going at the current moment, positioned on twin peaks shall and it is picking up some of the drizzle in the atmosphere. i want to zoom in a little closer to this. again, nothing in terms of heavy rainfall, but the green on here is indicating some drizzle near the richmond district, also back here towards western edition and then approaching market street, light towards the mission as women. we are seeing spotty drizzle

chief meteorologists jeff ranieri continuing our coverage. the air quality is -- >> it certainly will be until the fire is put out. the fires are still close to the bay area. it's going to be an on again off again issue. look at the satellite loop. all this white offshore, that's the fog that we're dealing with. you have to go more inland to see the smoke from the pfeiffer and you can see it to the south of monterrey. some of this filtered into the bay area and we'll likely see some of that tomorrow as well. it doesn't look extremely thick here. at least for the south bay. but we'll be contending with it. in terms of the air quality forecast, the next 24 hours, it will be at moderate levels in the south bay despite the smoke moving into san jose and gilroy. there's been no spare the air alert that has been issued. we're tracking more on the forecast throughout the hour. >>> some firefighters from san francisco getting much-needed break from the fire lines. strike team 2250a is heading ohm after battling the fire for ten days. more than 5200 f

that leads us, of course, to jeff ranieri. are we going to be able to see it 1:00 a.m.ay? >> away from the coast. that's the simple answer. the fog and drizzle is starting to get going right now and probably not going to let up at least at the immediate coastline over the next six days. we're going to see the heat inland also warm as we head throughout this upcoming weekend. as we get a look right now, see the fog is in place from our weather underground camera here in daly city. in fact, note the city right now. it is at 100%. the air is absolutely saturated. so that's why we have drizzle in the forecast tonight. at the immediate coast. and even for parts of the peninsula. right now a chilly 55 degrees. as we bring you to something a lot warmer and sunnier, concord with 84 degrees right now. a high of 89. temperatures, though, drop fast with the foggy breeze. by 9:00, down to 69. tomorrow morning's forecast, again the fog and drizzle for san francisco. also expect more notable amounts of cloud cover for the north bay, east bay, peninsula and the south wbay to start. no

jeff ranieri is back with us.now it is late august, but it feels like october. >> i couldn't agree with you more. it was like i walked outside this morning and thought about getting a jacket around 9:00. you know, obviously i knew it was going to warm up, but it was a cool breeze outside. as we get a look at your microclimate forecast right now, it was comfortable outside. we certainly have a lot happening in the atmosphere. let's go ahead and get to san francisco right now. it is more of a low cloud situation right now. humidity at 63%. so we do still have the marine layer at the coastline that will usher in fog tonight, and temperatures will be dropping in the 50s real fast. as we take you to typically one of our hottest locations, we have high clouds streaming across in concord. a high of 84 degrees. right now 79. check it out, 60s expected by the 8:00 hour right into 9:00 p.m. it definitely will be a night where a lot of you can leave the windows open and turn the acs off. on the scanning doppler radar we have

chief meteorologist jeff ranieri joins us with how things are shaping up. jeff. >> we've seen winds gust as high as 20 miles per hour near the fire. it gusted from 20 to 40 miles per hour as the fires that grow so fast and so large really create their own weather. on some fire mapping weather data we've seen, it is really on the north eastern quadrant where this fire continues to be most active at this hour. in terms of what firefighters are facing, we've seen temperatures drop a few degrees from the last hour, but still a hot 93. humidity at 12%, winds out of the south at 10. will stay in the 80s through 8:00 p.m. and drop into the 70s once we hit 9:00. it will be a warm night. you can see on the extended forecast we'll stay with this hot weather near 100 by wednesday and continue with 90s throughout the seven-day forecast. we are tracking more throughout this ore, and we will have another update in about 15 minutes. >> jeff, thank you. right now about 4,000 people have been evacuated. if they don't have friends or family's homes or hotel rooms to stay in,

chief meteorologist jeff ranieri joins us with a closer look. jeff. >>> janell, the haze is easier to see from this camera position higher up from mount hamilton looking across the santa clara valley. you can see the lower level haze is capping off the valley right now and made it certainly unhealthy the past three days. today it sbrofd slightly. moderate for north bay, east bay and peninsula and south bay. we want to get you a closer fix on what is happening with the air quality. a mobile doppler radar has been moved from south bay up into dublin. as the scan mofls around we are picking up some returns on that radar beam. so as it sends a signal out it is sending one back saying, look, we have something in the atmosphere. it is not rainfall but it is the smoke and haze. you can see it along that 580 corridor. we will tell you more about stormranger just in case you haven't seen it. we've got a live picture for you, and it is a beautiful, beautiful machine. we'll let you know more about what it will mean for our microclimate weather in about ten

jeff ranieri joins us. can , seems like from our point of view the winds shifted and here it is. >> it is a rather complicated pattern we are seeing. we had had this area of high pressure sitting across nevada. circulation around this is helping to bring up more of a sugterly wind flow, and on some of it this area of low pressure off-shore is wrapping in a southern fire. on the north bay they're getting smoke filtering in from the clayton fire. not exactly the blewest of skies today. when it comes to air quality, it looks like it will be the worst as you continue through the next 24 hours. right across the south bay through san jose, morgan hill, san martin and gilroy and more moderate levels for the peninsula and north bay. the question, when do things improve. it looks like by monday's forecast we'll see a drastic shift. by monday that's the day when things improve for us. at inay. thank you, jeff. >>> a reminder, you can get the latest forecast for your specific microclimate 24/7 on our digital platform.

jeff ranieri has a look at the conditions. you can really see the smoke. >> it is getting funneled up here from an area of high pressure across california. clockwise circulation is helping to drive up the smoke from southern california and the counter clockwise circulation is pushing the smoke up into california. the fires continuing to contribute to the hazy skies across the bay area. air quality throughout the rest of tonight will remain moderate for the north bay, east bay, peninsula and the south bay. but some of the worst air quality will be in the south bay. we do think most certainly we'll have improving conditions on monday. as this area of low pressure pulls inland it's going to drive an offshore wind and that should push a lot of the smoke out here into the pacific. we are tracking more on the weather and details on how a brand-new nbc bay area storm tracking vehicle called storm ranger is going to change the way we track weather. we'll have more details in about 15 minutes. >> that's a good tease. >>> it's a crisis
