bringing jeff ranieri right now. here we are with another fire. jeff, what's the what are you thinking for this fire and the wind tonight? winds 15 to about 35mph. and it's trying to push that downhill, which is always hard with fires to go downhill. but it's so extremely dry. those evacuation warnings in effect for good reason. look at this. up to a 100mph in parts of southern california. here, as we track through the past 48 hours. let me get you more details on our forecast right now in your microclimate, weather, and what i can show you here as we get you into the wind is it's not extremely gusty in the valleys here, lower elevations of southern california. but notice this bright coloring here on the map, the wind map that still gusts right now of 40 to 50 plus miles per hour in the mountains. so we're not expecting major, major improvement in all of this to get out of here until we head into friday night. that's when it improves for them back here across the bay area. bay area. after some wind this morning, we have now started to see any kind

i'm here now with chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. jeff, we mentioned the winds there in southern california is going to be a problem for them. yeah. of course. what we've been following down there now. more wind on the way. i want to show everybody what we're looking at when it comes to that forecast right now. so let's go ahead and get to it. and what you're going to be able to see here is it's the two main fires that we continue to track tonight. with the big fear that we could get more embers from these fires spreading to other parts of southern california. so again, it continues to be the palisades fire that still has some areas that continue to burn. also, the eaton fire here in altadena. so let's get you to the very latest here as we continue through tomorrow, also into wednesday. we're under this high fire threat here in southern california. we're talking about winds 30 to 70 coming out of the north and the east. so it's another santata ana wind event. very, very dry and gusty winds, sustained winds 15 to 40 and humidity 5 to 2

i want to go ahead and bring in our chief meteorologist, jeff ranieri now because, jeff, they are keeping a very close eye on those santa ana winds. a lot of people saying they're bracing for the worst. and you know, as i continue to track that all the way through this afternoon, i'm not seeing anything that's close to what we had last week when those winds got up to 100mph. but again, those winds are still gusting out there. we're going to get you a closer view of exactly what's happening with the wind and the forecast. and you can see, as we've been talking about the two main fires here. some good news i can report on the eaton fire. also the palisades fire. we're not seeing too much hot spotting this afternoon. so if we can stay with that, that would be excellent because of course we would see less in the way of embers flying around when we do get these winds gusting up. now, speaking of the wind, you'll see on this map, it's basically contouring out some of the top wind gusts. and you'll notice los angeles itself down in the valley. we're not seeing strong winds. it's right up into th

meteorologist jeff ranieri joins us. jeff, are we done with this? is there more on the way?thing is out of here. so we are looking good here tonight. if you're doing any traveling out here across the bay area, as you'll see on this loop. there we go. right there, the storm system. and now that's pushing well off to the south and also to the east of us. so as we take you in out here across the bay area, no consistent rainfall, a little bit of moisture that could cause some drizzle later on tonight with some fog. winds generally also calming down. just a wind out of the west here at 17 in santa rosa. so how much rainfall did we pick up? some of the higher totals up towards santa rosa. close to a half inch berkeley hills. just over a quarter inch. san jose 11 hundredths and redwood city coming in at eight hundredths. now, when it comes to our rainfall season, we're still looking at this massive surplus up towards parts of the north bay santa rosa. so far this season, 25.60in of rain. that's 13.14in above normal. and that's why we saw those trees come down in guerneville. the gr

chief meteorologist jeff ranieri joining us now. and jeff, you said we got a little something something today. yes. what more can we expect going into this weekend? well i think it will be storm free for us. we will have to contend with some fog. and i also wanted to mention with that tree coming down in guerneville, the ground is just still so saturated after that strong atmospheric river in november, where a lot of the north bay is anywhere from 10 to 15in above for the rainfall season. so even a weaker storm like we saw move through may still cause some problems up into parts of the north bay, where that ground again is saturated. this system has moved well off towards the south. rainfall totals. santa rosa picking up 4000/900. berkeley hills just over a quarter inch. san francisco 18 hundredths. and san jose right here at 11 hundredths. a little bit of a breeze left as this system exits right now. mount diablo. some winds coming out of the west at 20. also westerly winds in santa rosa at 19. but any kind of breeze will also be ta

weather is driving this storm, and jeff ranieri is tracking those dangerous conditions. jeff. and what we think is going to happen tonight and through early tomorrow morning is as it begins to cool off up in the mountains, the higher elevations, that colder air is denser and sometimes that can rapidly intensify the wind even more as that cold, dense air just slides right down the mountains. so as we just heard from the officials, we're under this threat here all the way through tomorrow evening in southern california. i wanted to show you this time lapse here, and you can see how rapidly this fire spread this morning. and because of that rapid spread of the fire, those embers were able to really push through a lot of the valleys here, starting that fire continuously here, making it hard for firefighters to put out. so there's los angeles right there. there's the palisades fire you can see on our satellite loop here how that smoke is pushing well out towards the pacific. wind gusts up to 34 right now. humidity at 19%. so the current fire warning in southern california, if you h

i want to bring in our meteorologist, jeff ranieri right now. some tough conditions in so much, so much of the of the country. yeah, florida could even get some snow in the panhandle as we head through, which would be so bizarre. yeah. next 72 hours. so cold there. we also have our own chill back here across the west. we do have details on a frost advisory as we move through tomorrow morning, but we did have that wind to contend with today and with our recent fire concerns. i did want to show you that the strongest of the winds, those have now started to exit most lower elevations here, only five to about 15mph, still clocking some wind gusts at mount saint helena and mount diablo anywhere from 23 to 26mph. but let me showou here by 1130 tonight, only 5 to 10mph throughout the bay area, so no need for concern when it comes to wind tonight. we are on the downward side of that now as we move through tomorrow's forecast. high pressure is going to keep it pretty calm for us. so we' in for a good amount of sunshine coming back in and that's going to

let's turn things over to jeff ranieri right now and talk about the win.is still something that you're watching very carefully. it is. southern california has this area of low pressure that's going to linger through tomorrow keeping it gusty down there. then off to the north, it's kind of this combo of weather. and northern california we have the exact opposite. high pressures bringing some very calm conditions. so just in case you missed it, quick, look here at the red flag fire warning. this is in effect until 6 p.m. tomorrow in southern california, primarily for the mountains. that's where we have the best chance of getting up to 60mph. and unfortunately, what's beginning to show up on the weather models for early next week could be more wind. by next monday and tuesday we could see more gusts, maybe up to about 50mph. still a lot to learn on that, but just wanted to get that on everyone's radar, so to speak. let me show you more details on what's happening with our forecast. we'll also get a check of the reservoirs here coming up. let's take a look her

and i'm chief meteorologist jeff ranieri.'ll take a look at the rainfall season here across the state and what's happening with our rain hollywood hills, where there is a brand new fire that just started burning. this is now called the sunset fire. it is burning west of the hollywood bowl. at least ten acres have burned so far. firefighters just issued a mandatory evacuation order for those living near laurel canyon boulevard. crews have also close nearby roads. we have not heard of any structures burning, but flames are quickly approaching. homes and we are continuing our coverage of those other major fires burning in the los angeles area. the santa ana winds seem to be fueling the flames for another day and another night. the pacific fire. the palisades fire in the pacific palisades between santa monica and malibu, has grown to more than 15,000 acres, 24mi■!s. it is 0% contained. firefighters estimate more than 1000 structures, mainly homes, have been destroyed, while the eaton fire, which is outside of pasadena and sparked

let's get right to our chiefeteorologist, jeff ranieri. jeff, that area hasn't gotten much wind or rain. and now these powerful winds come in. that's a dangerous combination. they've seen less than a quarter inch since october the 1st. they should be at about 4.25in. and what they're going to be looking for tonight are those potential sundowner winds. when it cools off at the tops of the mountains, that cold air is denser and heavier and could send more of that wind racing down the mountainside. we're going to get you covered here in the bay area. also southern california. but the thing that is setting all this off is this area of high pressure and low pressure. it's fighting for the same spa out here. and the thing that it's doing is creating that wind. and eventually we'll get some equilibrium here. but the result in the meantime is those gusty winds. when you get high and low pressure so close together, wind speeds across the bay area thankfully are lower elevations, very calm, just 5 to 10mph. we're still seeing some gusts and some of t

all right, let's bring in chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. jeff, i ask you this question every single year. will the revelers be able to see the fireworks show or is carl not going to cooperate tonight? i think we are good to go when it comes to this evening. we're not seeing any thick fog right now in san francisco, so why not wish all of you an early happy new year from us to you. we'll take you into that forecast here as we head through tonight. and it is so close. that storm track is just off to the north with some rainfall. but for us, while we have some cloud cover here at 10:00, some high clouds, we should see that break up right here at midnight to more of a partly cloudy sky. so we still think you're going to be able to see that spectacular fireworks show in san francisco, but it's going to be chilly. look at this hourly forecast at midnight. we're at 48 in san francisco, and if you're not there, but across one of our inland valleys in the north bay, east bay and south bay, it will be even colder by midnight. we're at 42, and by 2 a.m

we're bringing in our chief meteorologist, jeff ranieri. jeff, the pacific palisades sits right on the coast of pch between santa monica and malibu. really nice area, but as you and i both know, hard to get in and out. couple that with the wind and the low humidity. this is a dangerous combo. very critical here tonight. and as we thought as that sun sets we have started to see the wind ramping up again. basically you get some colder air well aloft as the sun sets. that colder air is denser and then it just starts to slide down the mountains, just amplifying the wind that's already in place. so you can see los angeles area here. there's the palisades and the way these winds are blowing out of the north and the east. it's pushing most of the smoke out towards the ocean. but again, all of this is filled with neighborhoods that are getting ravaged right now. wind gusts. currently, this is right now 52mph. a current temperature of 62. relative humidity, very, very dry. they're at 18%. so firefighters right now if a home catches on fire, it's just

want to bring in our chief meteorologist, jeff ranieri. jeff, let's talk about those winds. how how heavy are they going to be? when do they begin? and what about the intensity? well, the wind right now is already beginning to ramp up down here in southern california. the warnings have been out for a while now, and we're really focused, as we have been talking about, about those two different fires. we have the palisades fire that continues to burn and also the eaton fire. so let's take you down to the palisades fire, getting real time updates right now on that wind and temperatures currently 55 degrees, very dry air, 20%. and with the fire, we're now starting to see some gusts in the mountains getting up to about 50mph. so this has been gradually ticking up through the pa few hours. so santa monica the way the winds are blowing here, coming from the north and the east, pushing out towards the ocean, still keeping santa monica right here on high alert and out here towards the eaton fire winds are also now beginning to increase up to about 45mph there. so wind forecast throug

all right, let's go straight to our chief meteorologist, jeff ranieri. jeff. initially, we thought those winds were going to come a little bit earlier, but now it's not until overnight. well, we're actually getting winds right now 20 to 50mph. and we're going to stay with some on and off gusts all the way through tomorrow. so the wind event, so to speak, it's already arriving. you can see right now here on the current map, we are watching both of those large fires, the eaton fire and the palisades fire. and the interesting thing about this is the way the wind is blowing now. it actually is blowing anything back onto itself. so that could certainly be helping firefighters tonight. and the way satellite detection is showing it today, there's really little to no hotspots flaring up on the eaton or the palisades fire. so some good news today. but we still got to be so extremely cautious with how dry everything is with these gusty winds right now, 20 to 40 mile per hour gusts in the palisades fire region up towards the eaton fire. i'm seeing some gusts right now, 1

primary concerns is the wind, and we become all too familiar with these questions as we bring in jeff ranieri. jeff, as we look at these flames here, the first question for the firefighters and for forecasters is really, where is that wind going and how intense are those winds? and we're going to show you that right now. and you can see on this map perspective here we have los angeles well off towards the south. yeah. the palisades fire way down here then santa clarita off towards the north. so a closer view of this will show this is burning to the north of santa clarita. and it actually started right around lake castaic. so it's been burning right around the lake now, as you just reported it. i have to say this is excellent news. they've started to open up interstate 5. they must have been able to keep some of those flames back from interstate five, because the biggest fear right now, with the way the wind is blowing, is that embers could jump the five, the fire jumps the five, and then you have all this open terrain here where that fire could continue to burn again. over 9000 acres has alre

and jeff ranieri here. now, jeff, look behind us, okay? is that fog? yeah. yeah. what is going on? yeah, we had that come in so thick this morning, and we're going to start to see that clearing out here as we roll through tomorrow's forecast. but we still could get into some on and off fog here as we head through the next couple of hours. let's go ahead and take it into that microclimate forecast and we'll show you. we've had some very calm winds today and that's what's helping create this fog down at the lower levels. you'll see visibility right now generally is not extremely bad widespread throughout the bay area. but we do have a few spots here where it is dropping below two mile visibility. that's right here in half moon bay and also napa reading one and a quarter mile visibility. so again, through about 11:00 tonight, we still may start to see some of these visibilities really drop at least through the evening as temperatures continue to get colder. so please be aware of that if you're doing anything out here tonight. otherwise, in walnut creek, we started to get some sunshine

let get right to chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. jeff, you just got the latest run in.e everybody is getting rain. yeah, it should be widespread here across the bay area. as we take a closer look at this storm syst, the center of the storm is still going to be moving well to the north of us. so we'll get the rainfall. but not the most powerful in recent memories will be on the bottom edge of this storm. as we take you into the current scan, you'll see some of that moderate rain, a little bit of heavier rain developing near the northern coastline. so still a few hours away from getting to us, i think for the early morning commute around 5 a.m, we start to get some rainfall. santa rosa, guerneville, novato. this would begin some rain in san francisco east bay by 8 a.m, then should fill in with widespread rain for the peninsula by 11 a.m. also the east bay. and when it comes to the storm system tomorrow, overall totals will be less than an inch. we'll get in on some heavy sierra snow. these are one day totals we'll likely see close to a foot at some of the highest levels.

let's bring in our chief meteorologist, jeff ranieri. this is just emotionally overwhelming. jeff. here comes the wind again. what are you seeing right now? well, it is gradually beginning to start to pick up out there across the mountains. now i just want to start all this off and let everybody know we're not expecting winds up to 100mph like we had last tuesday when all of this started, but it still is going to be very gusty and there still are some hot spots going on these fires. so we have the eaton fire near pasadena. also the palisades fire. with these fire warnings, winds will range 30 to 70mph coming out of the north and the east. that's that very dry santa ana wind. and we're going to be under these warnings until 11 p.m. on wednesday. i really see some much, much better wind forecast. very calm thursday, friday, even into this upcoming weekend. so let's take you into what we're seeing right now. palisades fire winds 15 to about 30. and here's the interesting thing. the way the wind is blowing, it could push some of the hot spots back on to where the fire is already burned

let's get right to chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. and, jeff, you've been watching this windstorm. yeah. and i bet a lot of folks in southern california are going to stay up all night just to make sure if a fire breaks out, they're able to do what they need to do. it's just that kind of a situation with those gusts. what we're seeing right now is high pressure building over the pacific. low pressure starting to drop down over nevada. and that's what's helping to pick up this wind through the state. now, right now, it's not extremely bad for us. it's calm to about ten miles per hour. but you can see some of the bright colors in the central valley. that's some of the wind that is developing, with some gusts up to about 40mph. now, i do anticipate tomorrow morning and tomorrow afternoon and evening. we'll get some on and off gusts 15 to 45. a steady wind 10 to 20. and the top risk will be in the mountains 500ft and above. so even though we've had this wind, we've also thankfully had some rainfall recently. so that's helping us out on that

all right, jeff ranieri is here now. and jeff, let's talk about this weather.e had the first snow pack survey today. we're looking for more storms in the near future. and there's one knocking at our door. so this is all good stuff here. and i think it's going to time out pretty nicely as we head into the upcoming weekend as well. so let's go ahead and start it off and take a look at our satellite radar picture. and what you'll see here is our storm system spinning out in the pacific right there. there you go. as this loops around that storm there, it's centered more off to the north. but we're still going to get some of that moving in here for a one day event. as we move through tomorrow with this storm system doesn't look overly cold, but numbers will be dropping off by about 4 to 6 degrees. we'll begin to get that rainfall in here for the morning commute right around 5:00. guerneville. santa rosa, northern coastline. and this will extend across all of the north bay down to about san francisco, maybe near concord through 8 a.m. so it's kind of a split picture

i'm here with chief meteorologist jeff ranieri now tracking our microclimate forecast. happy new year, jeff. yeah you too. and the rainfall is just knocking on our doorstep. so eventually we'll get in on some rain out here across the bay area. let me get you a closer look at that microclimate forecast and what you'll see here. pretty impressive. the moisture stretching well back towards hawaii, but the heaviest of this rainfall at least over the next 36 hours, will certainly go towards washington and oregon. we continue to be on the bottom edge of that. and that's where the cloud cover came from. today, we are seeing some measurable rainfall up near the california oregon border, right around eureka, down to about garberville some moderate few heavier pockets, but i don't see any of that moving our way tonight. as we get you down to the bay area scan, we mainly have cloud cover. there's a little bit of green showing up with that. some moisture in the mid levels of the atmosphere. we're not getting any measurable rainfall out of this tonight, so it's basically just the clo

let's go ahead and bring in chief meteorologist jeff ranieri, keeping an eye on those winds as well. jeff, how are things out there tonight? well, it is improving. there wasn't much hotspotting today and there were some wind gusts in the mountains, but again, it was all isolated to the higher terrain. overall. we saw wind gusts ranging up to about 60mph for some of the highest peaks, 40 to about 65 here. so we'll get you into the fires and we can show you here at the palisade fire burn scar. we have some wind gusts, still 15 to 40mph out towards the eaton fire. we're looking at wind gusts here of 15 to 30 right now. red flag fire warnings. those will continue to expire this hour. you can see they are now dropped here for most of southern california. there's a smaller one left up towards simi valley that will also likely expire this hour. now we could get into more wind as we head into next monday and tuesday. we're going to get you more looks at that, plus your full forecast and what we see happening over the next couple of days. i'll be back with that in about 15 minutes. jeff. thank
