nbc's jeff rossen is in los angeles with more. od morning. >> hi, natalie, good morning to you. for the first time, court documents reveal that dr. conrad murray is the target of this criminal investigation. we saw detectives storm his office on wednesday. now we're getting an inside look at the manslaughter case they're building against him. we watched as federal drug agents rummaged through dr. conrad murray's office in houston. now, nbc news has obtained the search warrant, and the wording says it all. investigators were looking for evidence of the offense of manslaughter that tend to show that dr. conrad murray committed the said criminal offense. the warrant shows investigators confiscated 21 items, including a rolodex card, e-mails from a yahoo! account, a letter, a forensic image of a business computer and vials of phentehmine. nbc news has learned investigators also searched dr. murray's storage unit in houston. there they found incomplete charts, notices from the irs, a suspension notice and two computer hard drives. >> th

jeff rossen is in burbank following the story. if they're not looking at this like a homicide, what are they looking at in terms of criminal wrong doing? >> reporter: the sources do say that the homicide investigators are involved. remember, a homicide isn't necessarily a murder. a homicide can be anything that's not a natural cause death. what you're hearing now from the reporting is that investigators may not have enough evidence yet. the keyword here being yet, to charge anyone with murder, which is a pretty high burden of proof. sources are telling us it would be less than that. involuntary manslaughter, wreckless homicide. we should tell you this investigation is far from over. investigators have been on the record saying there's a 24-hour news cycle, isn't like a tv show and it takes weeks and months to build a case. to charge doctors and to follow that trail back, which is what they're doing now. >> thanks for the update. >>> a posting on the internet and suddenly the streets in taiwan, a spontaneous michael jackson tribute

nbc's jeff rossen is in los angeles with more on both of these developments. jeff, good morning. >> reporter: hey, ann, good morning to you. today was supposed to be the day, custody hearing. finally an official decision about who gets michael jackson's kids. but the judge postponed it again and this morning we have new information about what's really going on behind the scenes. the jackson kids enter another week in limbo. paris, prince and blanket remain in the care of michael's mother, katherine. sources familiar with the custody case tell nbc news katherine jackson has realized that at 79 years old, she can't raise the children alone and wants more time to sort it out. now, two of michael's sisters are emerging as possible contenders for custody. janet and rebbie. rebbie, the older sister, was spotted with the kids in public just last week, taking them to a jehovah's witness church. janet's reportedly been with them every day. >> the court would be very interested, i think, in having a younger person parent these children, provided that person is a relative

jeff rossen joins us live from burbank. we're learning these strange details about how he was living. why is this relevant information at this point? what are they trying to piece together here? >> i think what they're trying to piece together here is he was living a life, and this is according to law enforcement officials telling the associated press where michael johnson was using propofol, diprivan, to sleep at night. he was using it as an alarm clock where the doctor would give him propofol at night. it's an iv drip. anesthesiologists say it literally knocks you out like that. the drip starts, you're unconscious. you sleep all night. in a hospital if you were getting major surgery and getting this drug which many people do, you're monitored on an ekg machine, a pulse monitor. if your heart rate sinks below a certain level, alarms go off, nurses rush in. in this case, michael jackson, the law enforcement officials say on the ap saying he was unmonitored. when it was time to wake up in the morning, they'd stop the drip an

let's get to jeff rossen who is following the story. >> reporter: been a lot of questions about where conrad murray is. minutes ago i got off the phone with an official from the las vegas metro police who confirms to nbc news that conrad murray was at home in las vegas when they came in to execute that search warrant. we're told they're looking for documents and possibly computers, though the search warrant is sealed. it's unclear exactly what they're pulling out. they are at dr. conrad murray's home in las vegas inside a country club, a gated community, just a few miles away from the vegas strip and also his office. he has offices in houston and las vegas. as you know and remember from that video from last week, dea agents and local police searched his houston office just last week. now the lapd and federal agents are back here in las vegas to execute this. he is at the center of this criminal investigation according to court papers, a manslaughter investigation, though no charges have been filed yet. his lawyer maintains that he did nothing wrong, that he did not administer anything

nbc's jeff rossen has more details from our burbank bureau. how many doctors are we talking about now? >> reporter: our source who has familiarity with inside knowledge of this investigation now says aboutit is at least 19 doctors spread across the country. we know of two of them, dr. arnold klein, jackson's dermatologist, police have actually subpoenaed his medical records and he is said to be cooperating with authorities. important to note his lawyer says he did nothing wrong. he was very close to the jackson family and spent many holidays together. the other doctor is dr. conrad murray, that's jackson's cardiologist, he was with michael jackson at the time of his death. there is his picture on your screen right now. police have interviewed him twice, once at length for three hours, they impounded his car. they've also taken his medical records as well, and so all of this is sort of coming together now as police wait for the final toxicology reports, which really could come later this week or maybe next week and they want to see if the coron
