after the hospital, then he's taken to the jefferson county jail. take a look at these photos we got from hooper's attorney. according to hooper's attorney, he was reaching out the door of the jail cell for water. the deputy on duty slammed his hand in the jail door. it took so long to rescue his hand that according to hooper's attorney, they say his hand was crushed. all of this happened on the evening of may 8th. the reason i'm telling you this story now is hooper is now suing primeville, cooke county, jefferson county, and 15 officers from three different agencies for $5 million claiming harassment. one of the many reasons he's filing the lawsuit is because of the damages he suffered to his hand. he can no longer work. his previous job was that of an auto mechanic. >> this has to be one of the most difficult rescues, the people of india. this antelope stuck in a canal. people jump in the water with ropes to dive into the right place so we can then pull it out. of course, a scared antelope would put up a fight. i think what they were waiting to do

not impossible, but the president doing what he had to do in places like jefferson county. rrow win, winning the suburbs, 1%. come up to adams county here, a narrow win for the president. the president doing what he has to do. i want to show you one thing. a lot of conversation from analysts about what happens now, how do we govern. the republicans will keep the house, we know president obama with a popular vote loss and smaller electoral college win. will there be a mandate? compromise? i want to show you something. this is by county, the vote for president across the country. most counties are voting republican for president tonight. the president wins in urban areas and big suburbs, but look across the country, this is a center right country, even though a center left president, some would say a left president is winning re-election tonight. we'll win with 30 republican governors, a republican house, and we'll have a civil war perha perhaps. you can answer this better than me. an ideological civil war in the republican party. when the president says time to raise taxes on

you come over here to jefferson county, 12% of the population right here. the major suburbs just around the denver area, you're looking at 2008, there you're looking at 2004. that's where the elections are won, close presidential elections. governor romney needs to win big in rural areas. the president needs to win big in urban areas. all things being equal if that happens, the president gets the urban areas, governor romney gets the rural areas, then the suburbs will win this election and we'll watch the counties all night long. >> as a programming note since we will be looking at ohio so closely so people want to plan out their viewing schedule and/or drinking schedule, historically, when do we start to get results from some of the important counties in ohio? when do you think we can get a sense of what's happening? >> they tend to come in pretty quickly. it can always be glitches on election night but a lot of these places where you've had heavy early voting, i was just in colorado, for example, and ohio as well, a lot of places where you had early heavy

we spent the afternoon in nearby jefferson county. which is where the great deal of the focus will be here in the state of colorado as the two suburban counties surrounding denver, jefferson on the west and arapahoe county on the east. these are unique counties because they are divided up equally between republicans, democrats and independent swing voters. in jefferson county where we were today, 219,000 votes have already been cast. the republicans have a slight edge in turnout so far. but this is a county that will very likely see 95% voter participation. and we're told by the election administrator there this afternoon that it's very likely that by 7:30 mountain time, 9:30 eastern, we will have a very good idea of who will win these swing counties near denver which many people will be paying very close attention to. >> ed lavandera, thanks very much. let's also check in on paul ryan's home state, wisconsin. it has ten electoral votes. president obama won it easily in 2008. john kerry barely carried the state in 2004. cnn's ted rowla
