and he comes close to firing jeffrey rosen. and so he continues then to push for ed raffensperger and perpetuate this claim of a stolen election. that moment is really important. because donoghue, a republican appointee in trump's own justice department, has told him otherwise. so, really important to establish his knowledge and intent. >> all right, vaughn what is the campaign saying about how trump is pushing ahead with his re-election bid under the shadow of another possible indictment and what are we expecting from him at both fund-raising and campaign stops this week? >> that's right, chris. here in new orleans, he's expected to land later this afternoon, he will be going to the home of a major real estate developer here in louisiana, for a private fund-raiser. we do not know at this time whether we will publicly get our eyes on him elsewhere here in louisiana, before he flies back to new jersey. we know he also has a campaign stop in des moines, iowa, on friday. he'll hold one of his traditional rallies in erie, pennsylva

pressure senior officials in the department of justice, including donahue himself and his then boss jeffrey rosenm overturn the election. >> let's take a look at another one of your notes. you also noted that mr. rosen said to mr. trump, quote, doj can't and won't snap its fingers to change the outcome of the election. how did the president respond to that, sir? >> he responded very quickly and said, essentially, that's not what i am asking you to do. i'm just asking you to do is just say it was corrupt and leave the rest to me and the republican congressman. >> now, we are learning that richard donahue has spoken to special counsel jack smith's office. donahue confirmed to nbc news that he was interviewed by prosecutors, although he's not been called to testify before the federal grand jury. we are also getting new information about a another potential communication between the special counsel and a key figure in the election investigation, an attorney for john eastman. the lawyer who pushed that nonsensical theory, you may remember, that mike pence could overturn the election on january 6th. he

because he testified before the house january 6th committee alongside former acting attorney general jeffrey rosen, and former assistant attorney general jeff engle about how they repeatedly rejected trump's claims of fraud in the election. >> it was clear to us there were a lot of people whispering in his ear, feeding him these conspiracy theories and allegations. i felt that being very blunt in that conversation might help make it clear to the president these allegations were simply not true. >> donohue, a lawyer, is an ideal source for jack smith because like any good attorney, he took contemporaneous notes during his phone calls and interactions with trump. at one point, he noted the acting attorney general told trump that the justice department can't and won't snap its fingers and change the outcome of the election. here's his description of how trump responded. >> you also noted that mr. rosen said to mr. trump, quote, doj can't and won't snap its fingers and change the outcome of the election. how did the president respond to that, sir? >> he responded very quickly and said, essentially, th

you may recall there was that letter jeffrey clark drafted and proposed they send under the name of the acting attorney general rosen, that georgia and the other state were in play, suggesting they resubmit and get new state of electors. rosen also testified he attended a 90-minute interview with donald trump where they went through one by one all the crazy schemes -- suitcases full of ballots and dead people voting, and debunked all of those things. and that meeting was in december of 2020. and then we find trump in january of 2023, still pushing the stolen election agenda. and so that says to me that jack smith is looking for evidence donald trump knew what he was doing was a lie hen he said it in early january of 2021. >> michael, there were several people, including lawyers that brought shame to the profession. donahue's a registered republican, not exactly what we'd refer to as a resistance warrior. so mikesle, talk about donahue's credibility as a witness. we saw a number of those witnesses who testified during the 1/6 investigation. >> yeah, i think he's an important fixture here, not only to give context leg
