let's bring in our chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. watching it all. any changes for you or is it going as expected? >> reporter: the second storm system on sunday is speeding up. so it mean theres will be a shorter break in between the storms as they get here. but we have a lot to get to with the storms. we have the cold front offshore. that will be producing this rainfall for us. a few spotty showers to watch out for tonight. tomorrow morn's forecast, 7:00 a.m., it is getting around the coastline. 11:00, we would be into widespread rain. there will be a lot of pause points so hang tight. we are stop at the important parts here. 11:00, we are getting into it. by 3:00 p.m., some heavier pockets up into the north bay. but then, this thing should really get out of here pretty quick. so that first storm system on saturday because of the quick timing, we'll see a decent amount of rainfall. but i don't expect any major flooding to happen. >> a little gap there. and then sunday, here we go again. >> exactly. so, what we will see is a break from about 8:00 p.

let's bring in our chief meteorologist, jeff ranieri. it got really active late today, jeff. >> yeah, so intense. with that video, we could see that water coming up through the manholes in the street. there's just so much coming down so fast. none of the drainage could really keep up. you'd see that in any situation across the country no matter where you are because of that intensity of the rainfall. look at the radar here. this is from noon to 3:00. you'll see how that rain was very, very intense. the orange and also the red indicating those heavy downpours. and check this out. in just one hour in san francisco, 0.88 of an inch of rain, so nearly an inch in one hour. our daily average rain for this time of the year is just 0.16 of an inch, so some extreme rain coming in today. as we take you to the radar, the worst of that wet weather is moving to the central valley, also up towards the sierra. we've got another batch we're watching offshore. it doesn't look nearly as heavy as what we saw this afternoon. this is tracking off to the nort

chief meteorologist jeff ranieri is tracking it. and jeff, what are you seeing? and when do you see it ending? >> i really see this slowly starting to taper off tomorrow, and certainly dry weather on friday, saturday, and also on sunday. right now with storm ranger, our doppler radar, it is scattered. we'll get you down to the santa cruz mountains. this backed through moderate rain to capitola through 7:34. a few spotty showers over san anselmo, richmond and right towards san francisco. look at our eight-day rain totals. phenomenal amount of rain here. this is the most active on and off pattern we've seen all season long. 79 inches santa cruz mountains. san francisco 5.43. san jose checking in with 4.13. so with all of this rainfall, this has put an incredible dent in the rainfall season. we're looking at a surplus of over 4 inches in santa rosa, up 3.37 in san francisco. also up over three inches in san jose. now with all this rainfall we've had most recently, as we head through tomorrow morning, it's going to be all about the cold blast of air. also some fog. r

. >> let's bring in chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. we had a break, but we have two more storms coming in, is that correct? we're there will be a break between those storm systems, but it will be pretty tight. rainfall this month, it has been our busiest season so far in the past couple of months. san francisco, 5.68, san jose, 4.28 this month, and redwood city, 3.45 . that lead us storm system is in the pacific. it is tying in with an atmospheric river and some tropical moisture. watch as it loops around. it stretches way towards hawaii, and that's where we will get boosted totals here for the bay area. as we move into that forecast, tomorrow, the storm is offshore. it will take some time to get here, but by saturday morning, it will be in the north day with the first bands slow to get going in the east bay and south bay saturday morning. there's going to be wide ranging totals with this storm system across the bay area. not only rain for us, but it's no in the sierra from saturday into next tuesday. 19 inches in kingvale, 21 print br

jeff smith the jeff is with pg and e so jeff, we talked what, 2 or 3 hours ago. things getting better. some stand. house cleanup going. >> you know, we're making steady progress. we'd obviously like to have even more customers back restore than we do at this point. but we have made some steady progress. the break in the weather has been a benefit in terms of able to get out. there are crews having, you know, the access that they need to make these repairs. so we're we're making progress. but we understand that there are still lots of customers in the bay area without power. we appreciate their patience as they work to safely restore. >> and jeff, and they looked at the pg and e map. but maybe just clarify for us where the real problem areas. >> you know, you just catherine, it's you know, the south bay. we've got about 53,000 customers without power the north bay, about 57,000. 34,000 on the peninsula. so those are the 3 big problem spots in the in the bay area. and then, you know, it's about 12, 12,000 in the east bay and on a little over 5,000 in san francisco.

let's get right toward chief meteorologist, jeff ranieri, this is too much for two areas here. >> thewhy it will be one of the strongest storms for the season is this is the first storm system we are going to see drop-down from the arctic this strong. we have really seen most of the storm system's coming in from the south with those atmospheric rivers that have been overall word. so doppler radar right now, that neck storm system is just off to the north. really, for tomorrow morning, i don't see any big problems for the commute, we've deceived some spotty shower chances but it will begin to pick up by 1:00 p.m. over napa and sonoma counties with heavier rain. really through the duration of the storm system, what we will see is some on-again off-again. max of rain so we will get a little break and we'll see you around coming back. we will see some spotty thunderstorm chances also the possibility of some help. when that 50 miles per hour, make it into a little bit of street flooding with this but the sierra, that will be the goals out here, 17 and higher and with that load of snow but

on the flip side there's the question, jeff bennett. i get posed and had it posed to me on twitter soliciting questions. they say well, given that atmosphere and given the fire hosing and need to respond at the same time for conservative viewers and pro trump voters, we feel betrayed by mainstream media and you see it in the polls. how do you account for this age in which there's fire hosing and sometimes that fire hose is filled with things that are intentionally misleading and distorted and the need to build bridges. you're broadcasting and reaching a broad audience and able to inform them and make decisions they want but with information grounded in truth? >> i will say this, the news hour audience is a 1/3, a 1/3 independence, a 1/3 republican and a 1/3 democratic. you don't find that anywhere else in the television landscape. and's on are our mandate is to have coverage and bring on guests who span that spectrum. one of the luxuries we have at that news hour is we're not in the news business but it's not a business at all but a pub
