before we get to -- jehmu. you know i love you. before we got to the talking points, let me just go to tre for a moment of i think if nothing else, this comment has given governor romney quite an opening to go out there and to appear to be above the fray himself, to talk about patriotism and going out and voting for love of country. not for something like revenge. >> rick, i think it's an odd comment. but i also think it's a sign of weakness and where the president views this race right now. you know, worked on a number of campaigns and typically an incumbent on the get out the vote effort is usually touting their record, yet this president is sending out a battle cry as if he's the challenger or the victim of some sort. you know, winning campaigns peak at the right time. and the voter enthusiasm numbers right now show that the romney campaign is peaking at the right time. i think the president sees an election slipping away and when candidates see an election slipping away, they begin to throw darts. i think that's what he's doing

i will toss it to you, jehmu, again. cuts in terms of democrats what should they be willing to negotiate on that front? >> i think they've been very clear and the president was clear during the campaign that the pentagon has actually asked for less than what republicans, you know, have wanted to give them. there are a lot of outdated systems that just don't need to be paid for in our military budget. and that should be okay. but it really does have to start with taking away the death grip that grover norquist has had on not just the republicans who signed his pledge, but on the american people. i think if you ask any normal person, they would say, who? they have no idea who this man is. and he should not have any source of input into our economy. >> true. monica crowley and jehmu greene. let me start with you. what happened?even? >> i would actually disagree with that a bit. i do think the president is still ahead with women. it's poll to poll but at the end of the day we're seeing, it's probable a repeat of the gender gap that democratic candidates have enjoyed since 1984 or so. what this comes down to i think for women voters on tuesday is going to be which candidatehey trust the most. women can see through a lot of things that men don't necessarily see through. i think they have seen governor romney shift his position so many times, most recently seen him just blatantly lying about the auto industry and chrysler moving jobs to china. that isot a president that women voters are going to be comfortable with. so on the issue of trust, when women go into polling booth, they are going to check off barack obama's name. >> tom: i have just taken a wild guess. you may have a different opinion? >> i think it's really important to take a look at the breakdown among women. governor romney has a double-digit lead
