it was jennings who originally said the boy was 15 and jennings admits he did nothing wrong. now, this weekend a "washington times" editorial slammed the white house for turning a blind eye to the jennings saga and also uncovered a 1997 speech jennings gave in which he said, quote, one of the people that's always inspired me is harry hay. he was a long time gay rights advocate and was a big supporter of the north american man-boy love association or the group nambla and said, quote, in a speech, if the parents and friends of gays are truly friends of gays they would know from their gay kids that a relationship with a older man is precisely what 13, 14, and 15-year-old kids need more than anything in the world. i'll say it again tonight, it's time for kevin jennings to resign. that's not the only issue the administration is ignoring. apparently they haven't heard about the acorn controversy either. according to louisiana senator david vitter, the department of homeland security recently granted acorn a $ 97,000 grant. and guess what? it was all for fire safety and prevention.

our money expert jen westhoven is here. jen, this can't come soon enough for many jobless people as they watch that clock tick on the benefits, right? >> i'm always smiling because i can't figure out how the dancing video gets them off. i'll stick around for that. this is serious stuff and this is just a big step forward. it's still not action yet. no reason to call your unemployment office yet. we'll keep watching, give you all the updates. every week 7,000 people lose their benefits -- i'm sorry, every day according to some of the estimates out there. so these are families that are counting on this money in what's still a very tough job market. yesterday senators voted overwhelmingly to bring the bill to the floor for a full vote. so we're getting a lot closer to some action here. instead of it being stuck in committee. if approved it would mean an extra 14 weeks of unemployment for everyone and in states where unemployment is high, six more weeks on top of that. we will keep watching that one. >>> and some of the governm

money expert jen westhoven joins us right now. what are you looking at there, jen? >> this is the latest snapshot of the housing market and there are a lot of people right now who want to move or are trying to move to get a new job and they're stuck because they can't sell their home. home prices home for the fourth month in a row according to the s&p shiller index. they're just ticking up and compared to last year that's true down by 11% but they're going in the right direction. that's a good sign. >>> the recession may be over? yeah. that's what i had. there's a report due thurt thurs. the gdp is expected to show that the economy grew in the summer months. i really did say grew. that's good news in a bad economy. i'm hedging all this because we have viewers writing in saying you have to be kidding me. these are some theoretical numbers. i know it's not necessarily ha you see, but the the gross domestic product will likely confirm that the recession ended, and that we're moving into dproetgrowth in june or july. this is one of the biggest gauges of economy we've go

jen, it wouldn't just be for first-time buyers, right? >>> a lot more people could qualify for basically free money under this new agreement struck by senate leaders that would be some good news in a bad economy. it might help the housing market. now if this is approved and it's just a senate agreement at this point, if you've lived in your home for five years and you want to move, you could get a $6,500 tax credit so that's a big new thing to tack on to this proposal. not just new, first-time home buyers, anyone in their home for five years. the first time buyers would keep that credit. it would run through april. the clock runs out at the end of november. all right. it's halloween. this is kind of spooky news from walmart. they're selling caskets online. did you hear about this? costco sells them, too, only online. they do not want you to see them in stores. >> wow. it would take up space, though, wouldn't they? >> i don't think they want to remind you of your own mortality. you can get them online and they get them to you within 48 hou

jen? >> hi. thank you, virginia. this is one of the best ways we have to see how the economy is doing. you know, different in terms of what we hear from federal reserve heads who are looking at a lot of numbers. this is how people feel it. unemployment got worse in the latest month. it ticked slightly higher so up to 9.8%. that's the worst since 1983. back then it was more than 10%. we're awfully close to that. more than 7 million jobs have been destroyed since the recession started and it's very widespread across industry. construction lost 64,000 jobs. factory jobs down 51,000. retail, even government jobs down sharply, virginia. one of the few areas that eeked out gains is still health care. if you're job hunting the best thing to do is if you can find any way to align your skills to a health care job even as an accountant apply for a position with a health care firm and you're more likely to get in. >> at least there's one bright spot out of all of those. thank you so much. >>> new this morning, another strong ea
