>>reporter: like so many of us jen is busy. she works as court reporter.y for the state of florida. but unlike most of us she does it all on less than 4 hours of sleep. she says she is mevr tired. >> i feel lick i'm living my life rather than slipingt. >>reporter: her father pat is the same wait a minute he can get by on 1 hour of sleep a da day. >> not superman. not an x man. just i feel kind of lucky. >>reporter: not luck. it's genetics. researchers call them short sleepers. say it's because of genetic mutation. short sleepers can not sleep longer an few hours. even in childhood waking rested and refreshed. they never use an alarm clock. they rarely yawn. don't need caffeine and no na nap. >> all day long very active. very optimistic. go getters. >>reporter: researchers say short sleep remembers not insomniac and not sleep deprived but compress the brain 5 stages of sleep cycle into less time. so far they haven't found any negative health effects. famously bill clinton, winston churchill, donald trump and martha stewart all claim they need little sleep.
