jen ashton with more on what we need to know about addiction, relapse and recovery. vealing and transparent dax was and that's going to be helpful to so many people. if someone is suffering from addiction like dax, what do doctors need to take into consideration when treating them? >> well, robin, that's a really important question. i think it really needs to become like asking a patient if they have any allergies to foods or medications. it's important to remember that someone who is living with addiction and is in sobriety, the roots of the addiction are still there. so patients who are sober still have accidents, still have elective surgery and they need pain medication, but in a lot of cases there can be safer options. absolutely doctors need to ask about it. >> what role also does medication play when dealing with addiction, treating addiction? >> well, i think it's important to remember that it's not one size fits all. this requires an aggressive therapeutic and management approach that is life long, but there are a lot of options. number one, medication should

ashton is going to help us. tell us more about the study, jen. >> yeah, robin.rt appeared in jama.o during covid, and take a listen to these numbers, robin. they found that overall adults are consuming alcohol 14% more. among women, there's a 41% increase in heavy drinking and about 1 in 5 women are having one additional day of heavy drinking every single month. so it's really taking the pulse on how the pandemic is affecting alcohol consumption at home. >> such a big increase. how does this impact a woman's health? >> well, we need to remember that excessive alcohol use amongst women in particular which is defined as more than seven servings of alcohol a week associated with heart disease, breast cancer, liver cancer, depression and anxiety, and when you remember, robin, that one serving is described as five ounces of wine, it can be very easy to be at or above that seven servings servings servings >> all right, jen. thank you very much. adding to that is is that liquor stores were part of essential businesses and other companies have not been. >>> coming up, teens and microaggres
