our shawnette wilson joins us loo front of jenkintown tonight much what's slowing up services? >> reporter: well, a lot of tracks are still being cleared. but you know a lot of people tell me that they planned last night to take septa today and you have to guess that with this much snow that we received there are gonna be delays but many people we talk to today say the delays were worse than expected. so we're here right now at the jenkintown station where the regional rail trains are kiming through but certainly not without delays. some riders say they check septa's website and initially it said to expect 15 minute delays. but upon arrival, a message over the loud speaker was warning passengers on the platform of delays possibly up to 45 minut minutes. and there are on the problems. >> this morning it was even later. it was like 40 minutes late to jenkintown from warminster and right now it is 30 minutes late back to warminster. >> a lot of snow. i mean i know i'm sure the bigger train stations like warminster something they probably plowed more but i was really shocked that t

matt delucia is live at septa's jenkintown rail station. what's it like? >> reporter: not too bad at the moment. as bill's telling us we should brace as the day moves on. the wind is not bad out here right now. a very gentle breeze. yet we've got a lot of those kids heading back to school after winter vacation so of course it's going to be time to bundle them up. we're starting to feel like winter and because of that and we're getting into those teens overnight and wind chills even lower, that of course is putting into effect that code blue alert in many of the counties throughout our area. what that essentially means is the temperatures are getting low enough where it can be a danger to people who are outside, you see the train station out here, there's not many folks out here at the moment. but more people are going to come later on this morning. not many are going to stay outside for very long but those folks who are out for a great deal of time, mainly those homeless folks, the shelters are going to start opening. others are going to extend hours. ther

and doug shimell is live in jenkintown with the story.oug. >> reporter: if you can imagine these drifts that are still here, they are about chest high spreading out into the parking lot and into the street, well, that is what business owner blake cooper says he was up against this weekend. >> 16 hours of shoveling and plowing, this was not a 10-inch snow. >> reporter: the regular snow plow guys canceled. he and his sons started clearing. >> it was up to the top of the screen door. it had to be 6, 7 feet. so we did the best we could. we had two snow blower and shovels. >> after shoveling sunday and monday a jenkintown police officer wrote him a ticket for not clearing his sidewalks within 10 hours after the snow. >> you're not giving people time. what if the i'm a 90-year-old guy. you're going to give me a ticket. >> the police chief tells nbc 10 they have to enforce the ordinance so people will clear their sidewalks so kids can get to school. blake says even though schools were closed monday he went to the police department and paid the $

one neighborhood right now is being checked out by matt delucia in jenkintown. matt. >> reporter: we can feel that the temperature has dropped a couple of degrees the past couple tours. a little chillier as i got out of the truck. you see people coming to the train station all bundled up. they are going to be more bundled up the next 24-48 hours. the train came and picked up a load of passengers. later on today and overnight expecting some of the coldest temperatures yet for this season. add in the wind and we should get quite a bit of a shock compared to what we've gotten used to so far this winter and because of that a code blue alert is in effect for several counties in the area, that warning comes when temperatures are forecast to be cold enough to be dangerous for people who spend a great deal of time outside, mainly the homeless and for that reason more shelters start opening and others extend hours and more effort to get those folks into the shelters out of the cold. we have a graphic. code blue alerts last night and that runs through wednesday morning. p
