jennifer wood. here's another one of those letters. this one's from a father in north las vegas, nevada. quote, can you imagine what it is like to have a doctor look you in the eye while you hold your 1-year-old child and be told that you'll likely outlive your son? he goes on to say, i am certain my story is not unique, but it is real. stop forcing americans to use the most expensive point of service, the emergency room, to get what -- the system -- to get what the system won't give them. let's make all americans equal in the eyes of health care, please. close quote. mr. president, this legislation is not about the number of pages of this bill. it's about the number of people -- people like the man i just read, who was told by a doctor that he would likely will outlive his son. it's a number -- it's about the number of people. the number of people who this bill will help. that's what this is all about, mr. president. it's about fairness. so people when they're hurt or sick can go see somebody that can help them, not lay awake at night

joining us is jennifer with cq. the senate has been working this weekend. what happened? morning about a block and had a vote at 9:30 to limit debate on the omnibus appropriations bill that will extend funding for six different bills that were not enacted during the regular appropriations cycle, and the temporary bill that has until now been funding the government expires december 18. so we have a short window to get this finished so the government can go on at elevated levels, not the same levels as the last couple of years. >> can you tell us what the vote was held open longer than usual? >> this morning, a lot of the problems did not have to do with it being controversial. it was more that the senators just were not there. senator lieberman is an orthodox jew and he often on saturday votes has to walk from his home in georgetown. he walked over and arrive at -- almost an hour had gone by. he was wearing an orange scarf and it was exciting when he cast the vote and people could leave and cash their flight, because senator macassarñr goal, she was waiting on the sideline

if you were looking at -- jennifer brodeur ran statewide in ohio in 2006.t the percentage of votes they got and compare that to the democratic performance, that will be helpful. >> working for senator specter who may not match up with anything. any way to deal with that? >> yes. for the most part i would assume -- this is something that in the end you would want to confirm or deny with polling, he will perform strongly in democratic base areas. in philadelphia it would be incredibly odd if he did not run close to the democratic performance numbers even though he was a lifelong democrat. taking into account his history and geographic strengths, you could assume in the philadelphia suburbs that he should run more strongly because democrats for the most part even though many of them may not like him indiana will like him better than the democrats. i don't know the answer to that. it seems to be a reasonable argument that he could compel some of the moderate republicans, pro-choice republicans who voted for him in the past as a republican to vote for him as a d
