i am going to ask jennifer a question. one of the things i found interesting in your book was your discussion of a ayn rand s.a. the manifesto of individualism and particularly the changes from the first to second draft. can you talk about that? >> it was something ayn rand road immediately after her first period of political activism in 1940. when this campaign was over she joined the club's which eventually dissolved. let's form our own group. we found one partner who needed a statement of principles. basically two days straight, 36 hours straight pounding out this document. the manifesto of individualism was meant to be an inverse communism manifesto. it did not include the word altruism more than twice. there was no development, no change in her thought at all so it came out full deformed. she sounds more like a classical liberal talking about individual rights and quoting patrick henry. she is not pushing against traditional morality. she is more tentative in her ideas. this was intended to bring people to her politic

jennifer joins us from the international weather center. she's going to give us a look at what haiti faces weatherwise he in the coming hours. rain in haiti is not a good thing, because there's so much deforestation there and so much infrastructure that when it rains in port-au-prince you can be knee-deep in water in seconds because it has nowhere to go. >> that's right. it has nowhere for any of that water to go. i'm passionate about what's happening across haiti. when it happens during hurricane season, of course you really feel for the people because they really just don't have anything to work with. of course, that area is so deforested. let's update you on the earthquake situation. magnitude, 7.0. very close to port-au-prince. since then we've seen 24 aftershocks. look at some of them ranging from 5.1 to 5.9. this 5.9 is enough to do enough damage. these are aftershocks that have happened since the initial one took place around 5:00. just to give you an idea, of course, this is the strongest to hit haiti. as i had, 24 aftershocks. the

jennifer barger joins us now with some advice on what to keep and what to trash. the beginning of the year is a good time to purge and get rid of all that stuff you haven't worn in a while. what are the key points in terms of what to keep and what to trash? >> there is that old rule, if you haven't worn it in two or three years, it's time to get rid of it. and also, if something doesn't fit. if you are, you know, if you're a six 6 and dreaming of being a size 2, it's probably not going to happen. and having things in your closet from when you were a smaller size is just going to make you feel bad. >> should you just go through things one by one? >> go through things one by one and maybe even have a friend come over, a friend whose taste you trust, and maybe she or he can tell you, hey, you should get rid of those bell bottom jeans from 1978, they're not "in" anymore. >> and looking ahead to the fashion trends, what are some of the things that are good items to keep that might last you through the next couple of seasons? >> i think that menswear continues to be big

jennifer had more with that part of the story. >> good morning, the u.s.s. comfort is based here at the port of baltimore and the ship has been about vated. this is litter lay floating -- activated. it is literally a floating hospital ship. they are bringing in 600 medical personnel from bethesda as well as 60-70 civil servant mariners whose primary job it is to operate, navigate and maintain ship. the comfort is docked at the port of baltimore. the navy's sea lift command said it takes five days to get it in order to ship out. it will serve as a valuable resource as it can handle up to 1,000 patients with 12 operating rooms. there are light and limited care wards. they can make drinking water from seawater to the tune of 300,000 gallons per day. this should be valuable as drinking water is very hard to find in the areas of haiti hardest hit. 340 workers are in the country now. johns hopkins students are now all said to be ok and there is a survival story from the director of missions who happens to be from haiti. dr. rod martel just left his family there 10
