our pentagon reporter jennifer griffin is live there now with the latest as we have it. jennifer? >> shepard, we have been talking to sources down at fort hood and they tell us that the shooting took place outside the first medical brigade. there were approximately 20 shots fired and as you reported senior law enforcement officials now tell us that there are at least four dead, 14 wounded total. among the dead is believed to be the shooter according to a spokesman at fort hood who spoke to us not long ago it ♪ clear what caused this incident. as you mentioned, jana winter had from her sources that it was some sort of an altercation between soldiers and that that is how the initial shots were fired. there are reports out there. we cannot confirm them at this point in time that the shooter may have taken his own life. it may have been a self-inflicted wound that killed the shooter. all' that the fort hood officials will tell us is that the shooter himself is dead at this point. so, right now still a lockdown. the fort hood web site still says this is not a test to shelter in place,

jennifer griffin joins us. jennifer?a, we have been just been on the phone with sources at fort hood. we can can confirm at this point something that u.s. defense officials have also said that there is a confirmed one dead at this point and 14 injured in the shooting incident that took place. it is also believed that the shooter himself is dead. we understand that the public affairs office at fort hood just put out a statement suggesting that the shooter is dead. we have that from multiple sources now. it is not clear whether there is, in fact, a second shooter. they are going through the normal motions of looking to see if anybody else is hiding in buildings. that's why they are keeping this shelter in place order in place. we're told that the shooting took place near the first medical brigade. and it was near the motor pool. and so right now we can confirm from sources on the ground in fort hood, texas, that there was at least one dead, 14 wounded in the shooting incident. greta. >> and, of course, would very no inform

jennifer, in the wake of ft. were there major changes at bases dealing with this possible situation? >> there were changes. there were -- there were new systems put into place. there were -- there were many different ways in which they were trying to prevent anything like this from happening again, but i think what you're seeing in this kind of situation is it's almost impossible when there is a person with a weapon who has an intent to kill. >> okay, from the a.p., ft. hood has ordered everyone in the base to shelter in place, as we reported. the first cavdivision based at ft. hood sent out a twitter alert telling people to close their doors, stay away from the windows. a spokesman for the base declined to comment and the sheriff's office didn't immediately return calls on this. however, we know that the fbi is in place, and we have from the texas department of public safety that there has been a shooting at ft. hood in killeen, texas. now, what we don't know is how many people are involved here, and how extensi
