jennifer: i'm jennifer vaughn. the development comes from our latest granite state poll, and the question, what is the most important issue facing the state. for the first time ever, the majority of respondents say it is drug abuse. josh: this is also the first time in almost a decade that the number one issue has not been the economy. and this survey also reveals how many lives have been personally affected by the crisis. the heroin crisis in new hampshire is visible to everyone, from law enforcement -- >> i'm up to my eyes in the heroin addiction. josh: to the clerk at the corner store. >> people staggering tell they're on drugs. josh: now among all the other concerns facing the lives of granite staters, the drug problem in new hampshire has reached a new level. >> this is the first time that we've seen drug abuse rise as the most important issue, anywhere near this level. for the last 15 years it's been at about 1 mrs, 2%. josh: but now a full area of the state sees the heroin issue as the most important problem

jennifer: i' m jennifer vaughn. police say jason morales was well over the speed limit when he crashed in the entire event was caught on camera. josh: andy hershberger is live with court documents about what he allegedly said before the crash. andy: police say the driver that crashed into this building was going about 90 miles per hour west on granite street sunday night. surveillance video that was turned over to police from a nearby gas station shows a car driving on granite street before it hits a median and crosses main street. police say the car then crashed into the old dunkin' donuts building. jason martinez-morales faces five felony charges that include two for criminal threatening. police say there was some sort of argument between martinez morales and his two cousins that were in the car. at one point, police say martinez morales said they were all going to die before crashing into the building and leaving the scene. >> any time a vehicle' s traveling at a high rate of speed through a downtown area 10:00 a

jennifer: now to a mid air scare. a plane heading to boston diverted to new york, after the pilot died while flying. we know at least one person from new hampshire was on that flight. wmur's mike cronin is here with the details. reporter: passengers say the plane went into a quick diss sent and they knew something was wrong. they were on the ground minutes later. flight 550 left phoenix just after midnight this morning, it was diverted to syracuse after the pilot died. passenger says the copilot safely landed the plane and ambulances were waiting at the gate in new york. another crew was sent to ply the plane to boston this afternoon. 147 passengers were on board, in addition to five crew members. >> if it wasn't for the copilot using a cool head, it might have been more disastrous. i think the captain died mid flight. there are pilot was not feeling well, we landed, and it was we thought he just wasn't feel well, we had no idea he passed. it was extremely shocking. josh: the airline has not released the pilot's name

jennifer: i'm jennifer vaughn. sue hutchinson and steven andrade disappeared last month, but andrade's body was found in a tewksbury motel. the two lived together on kalif road, but manchester police started to investigate after family members say hutchinson disappeared on september 20. then on tuesday, 36-year-old steven andrade's body was found in a motel 6 in tewksbury. he apparently had shot himself. manchester police say andrade was last seen driving hutch i son's silver bmw, which was found monday in merrimack. police don't yet know if hutchinson was in that motel room, but manchester police chief willard says andrade's apparent suicide makes him more concerned that something bad may have happened to her. >> we're deeply sorry, our condolences to steven andrade's family, and we concerned for sue hutchinson's safety. >> i hope she's still alive, but it doesn't sound very good. i've never talked to her before, but i've seen her outside a lot. jennifer: police say andrade had been dating hutchinson's daughter, a

jennifer crompton explains. reporter: this is a confusing and frustrating case that has to do with mental health laws to protect people and the criminal justice system and the fact a 2 two can't communicate. richard penny appeared in two courts today, here at stratford superior court hoping a judge would dismiss those charges, which he did, and then he appeared in rochester circuit court to face two new stalking charges. the county attorney and police admitting that they're trying to slow this process so they can figure out whether penny poses a danger to himself or the community. 38-year-old richard penny was accused of stealing his brother's guns, threatening and holding another woman hostage, and engaging in a standoff with police in january of 2013. then he was found incompetent to stand trial. he was in superior court on tuesday, asking to have charges dismissed. because of a law that says if he is not deemed competent within 12 months the charges have to be flown out. the judge agreed. the issue with autho

jennifer crompton, wmur news 9. josh: tom: now to franklin where a man walking his dog made a disturbing find. the fire department quickly set up a perimeter after taking one look at some suspicious looking bottles and federal investigators were called in. wmur' s shelley walcott joins us live with details of this investigation. >> this is dangerous stuff. somebody was cooking meth in individual bottles. a resident walking his dog spotted the strange bottles. some of them had tubes sticking out of them. the area was sealed off and called in the fire department. we spoke to the police chief and here are some details he offered. >> last night in individual walking their dog happened to it was a plastic bottle and it was smoking, or had some ingredients he did not recognize. he called us and we were able to identify it as methamphetamine production. in mind and expect to make some arrests shortly. >> a man was taken into custody last night at the econo-lodge in manchester, charged with selling heroin. manchester police

jennifer crompton, wmur news 9. tom: the father of a 3-month-old child faces a felony charge tonight after he allegedly shook the infant, causing bleeding to her brain. jonathan legault is charged with first degree assault and appeared by video today in manchester circuit court. police say legault took the infant to catholic medical center back on october 10. court records say he initially told police the baby fell off the couch, then later told them he shook her because he was frustrated with her crying. >> juvenile detectives investigated the case, they spoke to the mother, the father and after putting the pieces of the puzzle together they determined that the father was the most likely culprit to cause injury to the child. tom: police say the child is out of the hospital and back home with her mother. bail set at $75,000. jennifer: a nashua mother serving time for the beating death of her 2-year-old son will not be let out of prison early. 24-year-old unique gould made the request to care for her sick mother at h

jennifer: thank you. in manchester 20 people have been kiss placed after fire tore through a three-story apartment house there. andy hershberger is live tonight outside the building. reporter: authorities believe that this fire was started by careless disposal of smoking materials, and tonight 20 people are homeless. the fire started here on clifford avenue about 1:00 in the morning. this video was taken by one of the first responding officers. there were six units inside this apartment building, 14 adults and six children live there. firefighter had to help some of the people escape and one person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. one resident said she heard an explosion and ran to her door to see what was happening. >> i could see flames dripping down, like a water fall, and i just heard a bunch of people screaming and they could small the smoke, so i had to go and wake up my husband and son who as soon as possible. reporter: firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to near
