well, yeah, we saw it with jennifer's live shot there. you heard them. i mean, they're up against so much with these winds and they're high. it's just unbelievable to see this going on. and this is the highest level of a threat of a fire danger that we could possibly see. and then we want to get you oriented with this map of the four fires that are burning. actually, the numbers of acres burned has just gone beyond what we had even in the last hour. so the palisades fire near the coast, just to the north and west of santa monica, we have the woodley fire that is also continuing to burn very quickly. and then the hurst fire that you see that's just west of san fernando. and then we have the eaton fire that is also off towards the east of glendale. so just looking at all of those fires on the map and this red flag warning that has been extended through tomorrow, and it may not be until friday when the wind starts to calm down with the santa ana wind event, we get high pressure that builds east of the sierra that forces the wind to come through the mountain

let's bring in nbc's jennifer bjorklund, who joins us from pacific palisades. jennifer. los angeles just has to get through one more night of a truly terrifying forecast. these gusty winds are now expected to hit their peak with this updated forecast from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow. i want to show you some of the damage that we've had from the fires already. this is pacific palisades and historic monument, the business block building in the heart of this little town, dedicated in 1924 and one of more than 30 historically significant structures destroyed in these fires, including will rogers ranch and the zane gray estate. right now, the fires have not grown in acreage despite gusty winds. today, we did have one new fire pop up overnight monday to the north, which was handled quickly. but all over southern california, people are packing up just in case. monoring the cal fire map, and fire crews are fanned out in strike teams and the highest risk neighborhoods, most of those preemptively with their power cut because of the danger of arcing power lines. we do have the update

i'm jennifer bjorklund, nbc news. thank you. palisades village. thank you very much, jennifer. let's bring in our chief meteorologist, jeff ranieri. right now. let's this is exactly the worst case that firefighters were thinking about. nowou have four different fires and you still have the wind blowing. talk to me about that wind. because a convergence would be really the horror sight and the wind overall. not nearly as strong as we saw last night. when you see these wind gusts that we clock, these top wind gusts, we did get up to 100mph in the san gabriel mountains. malibu 85. burbank airport, 83, chino hills 77. and then back here in the bay area locally. we got into some gusty winds this morning. mount saint helena up to 68. but these winds in southern california, they weren't just a one time thing, as we've been mentioning. this was for several hours on end, which is making this firefight pretty much impossible. so as we take you down to those current conditions here, we're tracking the two largest fires. we have the eaton canyon fire near altadena, also the palisades fire

thank you very much, jennifer. let's turn over this whole situation to jeff ranieri. now let's can we break down this red flag warning and all of these and these winds that are picking up, is it going to be the same ferocity of what we saw before? it does not look like we're going to get up to 100mph. so there's a little shred of good news. but as we all know, the fires continue to burn out here in southern california. so you get wind gusts above 30mph. and we could see more of those embers blow around. so as we've been telling you, the focus is on those two main fires. we have the palisades fire, also the eaton fire here in altadena. so we'll take you down to the palisades fire right now, a cool 56, very low humidity, some dry air already moving in. right now it's just 19%. the closer that number is to zero, it's the driest the air canver be. so on the fire right now, i just checked, we're seeing some variable wind gusts here coming 15 to about 45mph. now here's the interesting thing. the way the wind islowing tonight as those santa ana winds set up, it'll be coming

and, jennifer, there is no rest for the weary. firefighters are on high alert today. absolutely are. and we do have one updated bit of information. janelle. jessica, we have learned that at the eaton fire, one more set of remains has been found, bringing the death toll now to 25. in all of these southern california fires, the palisades and the eaton fire. the deadly fires and the timeline also has shifted forward. the heaviest winds that we are expecting from these red flag warnings from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow. so by this time tomorrow, we will hope that we are out of this firestorm. to say the fires burning in southern california look like scenes from a blockbuster movie. not an exaggeration, says a hollywood film cinematographer who packed up and got out of his home in mandeville canyon, adjacent to the palisades fire. he's confident in the crews that have saved his home once already. they have hoses lined up everywhere. they have cut out the separation road from the fire so that all things to me, makes me feel so, so confident that this would be this would be a

nbc's jennifer bjorklund continues our coverage from altadena. it is day three of the firestorm sweeping through los angeles county. it is safe to say that the palisades fire is one of the most destructive natural disasters in the history of los angeles, and palisades is just one of the multiple fires burning for firefighters. the struggle is around the clock against the fast moving, unpredictable flames. we're fighting fire on one side, and then all of a sudden the wind changes direction and now we're fighting on multiple fronts. those flames advancing due to strong winds. some hurricane force. we had gusts up to 99 miles an hour and firefighters were used to. we're used to the santa ana winds, but we're not used to is these erratic winds and the, you know, two mile ember crossing. but officials say after days of bad news, there is progress. while we are still facing significant threats, i am hopeful that the tide is turning in neighborhoods hit hard by the fires, blocks of destruction, entire businesses destroyed, homes completely gone. familie
