jennifer ashton, also an ob-gyn, can help us out.away is we have clarification on to what the risks may be and some stats are staggering. >> part two goes like this. this study looked at women taking hormone replacement therapy, also known as hrt, over a certain period of time and then helped stratfy the risk of breast cancer. we do know hrt increases the risk of breast cancer. what this study showed is a couple of things. duration of use. women who were onne estrogen therapy only had a 19% increase of breast cancer. women who were on a combination of hormone replacement therapy, estrogen and progesterone, had an 83% risk. >> that's the one that jumps out at you. >> if taken for more than 15 years. if it was 100% risk, that would be doubling. this 83% is very similar to what came out in 2002. >> that's good. di dialling back a little bit. you said this study looks at women who took it for a number of years. you say the length of time is important. >> length of time, longer risk associated with higher risk. women who took hrt for abou

jennifer ashton abo. why do i feel like we've heard this before? is new again. but h this was a recent study that put two groups head to head. they looked at overweight or obese adults ages 55 to 75, they gave them both low fat, low calorie meal, followed them for 12 weeks. one group had 12 cups, eight ounces each, of water before every meal. and that group actually lost 30% more weight. both groups lost weight, but the water group lost 30% more weight than the group who didn't drink water. >> 15 pounds is a lot. >> compared to about 11.5 pounds in the other group. >> but this doesn't particularly work for everybody? who does it work best for? >> well this, group again looked at people over the age of 55. in yuckered a actuals ages 18 to 35, if you give them water before they eat, they tend not to reduce their caloric intake as much. and one of the theorys is that when you're younger, your stomach tends to empty a little bit more quickly, so it immediately empties out of the other end of your stomach and doesn't act to keep you full as much as the

jennifer ashton here with this story. a lot of ears just perked up, parents out there.s study? >> as you said, it occurred in the journal of pediatrics, which is the premier pediatrics study. it was a small study, only looked at 50 babies, divided them into two groups. those babies that got a probiotic in addition to their formula and those babies given placebo, both groups started off having been breast fed and cried more than three hours a day. what they found is the group that got probiotics, by three weeks into a study cried 30% less. if you're a parent with a crying infant, that's a big result. >> big numbers. all babies tend to cry a lot. what which was as colic. >> we don't clearly know what causes colic, but we describe it as the rule of three. these are babies that cry for three or more hours a day, three days a week for at least three weeks. this is something that could affect 30% of babies. it is not a disease. it's not the parents' fault. it's not a poor digestive tract. again, we tend to know what it isn't more than what it is. what it is is a lot of hearta

jennifer ashton is here with us this morning. that sounds like a huge number of eggs. how many people are going to be affected by this? >> let's put night context knew mayorcally. when you talk about salmonella cases in this country, every year, there are 40,000 cases recorded each year. there are estimated to be well over 1 million cases of salmonella every year that just go underdiagnosed and undiagnosed and unreported. really we have to put this into context here. again, to break down the information again, this recall deals with eggs that came out of wright county farms in iowa. 380 million eggs recalled. about 2,000 cases diagnosed to late. again, it is important to remember about 700 of those may be the baseline existing cases of salomon allege we see. they have added two plant numbers in the recall. the numbers are up there. it is plant numbers 1026 1413 1946 1720 1942. you can see those right at the end of an egg carton. this is not a carton recalled but started in the letter "p" and you see a four digit number. >> that's rye underneath where the date you would
