davis next saturday. >>> well, a san francisco man and his son are being honored by the chp for quick life- saving action. it happened on a bay area freeway about five months ago. jenniferistrow tells us how they saved the life of a man they had never even met. >> reporter: st. patricks day weekend seemed like a great time for alfonso rodriguez to take his family for a drive, but this single dad's car trip turned from recreation to a rescue. >> the vehicle was on fire. my concern was if there was anyone inside. >> reporter: anthony lovelies car had been in an accident at the 101/280 split near san francisco. the chevy cavalier had spun around and was facing the wrong way on the road. >> as i was able to drive right next to it, i saw mr. lovell, who was being burned at that time. >> reporter: the entire car was on fire. alfonso pulled his truck over on the freeway. he ran to the locked car and tried to break a window with his foot. when that didn't work, he used a wrench his teenager son fished out of a toolbox in the family truck. dodging broken glass and flames, alfonso reached for lovell. >> i had to, you know, step into the vehicle, undo the seat belt, which fortunat
