fox's jennifer davis is live in tampa following the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we are not expecting a direct hit here in tampa from tropical storm isaac but it is certainly having an effect with a whole lot of rain, winds expected and a lot of convention changes too. a rainy start to a packed week in florida is wreaking havoc on republican national convention plans in tampa. tropical storm isaac picking up speed as it moves northwestward is expected to turn into a category two hurricane this week as thousands of delegates descend on the city. >> there is maybe a little bit of rain that is going to hit tampa. we know how to deal with hurricanes in florida very, very well. >> >> reporter: that little bit of rain casting a black cloud over mitt romney's original convention plans. the rnc team now condensing four days of events into three. >> we are working around the clock. we've got contingency plans. we'll be nimble. right now, we have no reason to believe that we're not going to start on tuesday. >> reporter: meanwhile, t

fox's jennifer davis live in tampa for us with a look at the highlights.rning. >> good morning. well, it was a big day yesterday for mitt romney as he finally after many months of trying, secured his party's nomination but really, this was ann romney's night here inside the forum. as she told delegates and the entire country about the man she married and the presidential candidate that she thinks they should support. >> it is now time to stand up. let's stand up. >> reporter: there were plenty of standing ovations during tuesday night's speeches in tampa. one of the most anticipated coming from mitt romney's wife ann, her job shedding light on her husband's triumphs in business. >> i can tell you mitt romney was not handed success. he built it. no one will work harder. no one will care mother. >> reporter: and argue after all is said and done, he is just one of the guys. >> i'm still in love with that boy i met at a high school disans and he still makes me laugh. >> reporter: mitt romney joined his wife on stage stealing a kiss before the keynote speech. t

fox news correspondent jennifer davis joins us live from tampa this morning with more. morning, jeff in. >> reporter: good morning, tony. >> tell us about what happened, jennifer, last night and what we can expect to see today. >> reporter: all right. let's start with last night. it was paul ryan's night. he stepped into the spotlight with the biggest speech of his political career and as far as people here are concerned he really hit it out of the park. he got big ovations as he took the stage as he left and in between. and he really did sort of lay out a little bit of his personal story as he introduced himself to folks here in the convention hall and around the country and then he really went on the attack. he was definitely an aggressor as he critiqued president obama, saying that he has been more about slogans lately than actually doing anything for the country and he talked about how the gop would like to do things differently in terms of repealing obamacare and making changes to medicaid and dealing with the economy as well. tonight is going to be mitt romney's t

fox's jennifer davis is live in tampa with the highlights. so let's talk about chris christie. of course, everybody has always kind of called him the rock star of the republican party. he gave quite a speech last night. what are conservatives having to say this morning about it? >> reporter: he gave exactly the kind of speech his support is just love, fiery, going after president obama critiquing him for his economic policies for what governor christie says is a lack of leadership. he accused president obama of just paying attention to polls and not enough about policy and trying to improve the current rich he talked a little bit more than himself than he typically does, talking about his parents, his mother, father, giving a little bit more of a window into him and his family. a lot of people hope he considers running for president himself in a few years. so they appreciated hearing more about him. he was there to say he supports mitt romney as president. here is a little bit of what he had to say. >> leadership delivers. leadership counts. leadership matters. and here is grea

fox's jennifer davis is in tampa with more on that story. >> reporter: mitt romney and paul ryan arrive in tampa today as republicans work to get their cop vehicle back on track. even as everyone here keeps a very watchful eye on tropical storm isaac. the gop chairman gaveled the start to the 2012 republican national convention on monday but it was brief. a majority of epees and speeches happen today. while all are keeping one eye on tropical storm isaac, delegates say there is a job to be done here in tampa this week. we came here for a particular purpose, that is to elect romney as president. >> we can't not do it. >> reporter: with monday's rain day behind them, mitt romney says he is ready on get the convention back on track. he expressed great faith in his wife ann who is slated to speak to the convention tonight. >> reporter: chris christie is gearing up too to deliver tuesday's keynote speech. >> another badge of honor fay republican. >> reporter: even as they focus on the business their party, gore romney says everyone continues to think of those on the gulf coast. >> our though

on the news line, fresh off the conference call, jennifer davis, an analyst.talk to you this morning. thanks for coming to the phone. >> thanks for having me. >> i guess the general takeaway is not as bad as we thought it might be, right? >> exactly. the street was muddling a loss of 9 cents, they reported a loss of 5 cents and maintained back half guidance where most investors were expecting saks to lower some of the metrics in the back half. >> they warned that gross margins might be under pressure due to higher activity. they were down, but not as much as management guided. to what degree was that -- to what do we owe that? >> right. they -- they were able -- saks was able to sell more merchandise or more markdowns at the first markdown, not having to take a second or third markdown. so markdowns were not quite as steep as they anticipated they would be. >> we heard similar things out of home depot, in that average tickets were up. obviously, the broad macro data on retail today was good. is the consumer saying something here? >> well, i think the consumer

here with this susan davis, jennifer duffy. let me begin with a poll focusing on the senate races in three key states for the party. they showed the democratic incumbent in all three stayed ahead by double digits in ohio. if you look at other polls, how does that impact your strategy in those three state? >> the work of the committee is to track these races and see which ones are winnable. then to concentrate our resources there to help our candidates. just like the presidential race where romney and obama are tied, things have not really moved a lot yet. incumbents in joint name at a vacation advantage. -- incumbents have in joint name identification advantage. they have created a huge runoffs in debt. they have done nothing to take their fight off the throat of the private sector economy to get the economy growing and jobs back on line. there is a lot of work to be done. a lot more people will pay attention. >> do you want to list these days you think are on winnable -- unwinnable? >> that could be a small list. our preferred
