"t" drivers picked their shifts recently, and that late-night shift was reportedly not available. some are taking that as a sign that late-night shift could be eliminated from the schedule. the "t" says the decision has not been made yet. the mbta held three public hearings in january. so riders could voice their opinions. late night service started back in 2001. it was dropped four years later because ridership was low. it was brought back in 2014. the extended hours along popular bus and subway lines run until saturday. normally the "t" stops just before 1:00 a.m. the extended hours cost acted $14 million a year and the "t" is trying to close a budget gap of $242 million. the "t" again says the decision hasn't been made yet. they say it will be easier to add those late-night shifts back in rather than take them away from drivers. we're live in dorchester this morning, jennifer eagan, 7news "today in new england." >> sarah: all right. still ahead, brea

the death toll rising this morning and dozens of people are injured. 7's jennifer eagan is in the control room with a look at the new video of the damage. >> jennifer: sarah, officials say at least seven people have been killed by this storm system, four killed in virginia. tens of thousands of people in waking up this morning without power. a powerful storm system brought more devastation as it proved up the east coast wednesday. heavy rains caused problems in washington, d.c. a parking garage flooded wednesday with water reaching the curbs. the storm also brought hail and strong winds which knocked out power to thousands of people. the clean-up process is just beginning in north carolina. at least four tornadoes tore through that state. roofs were ripped off of homes and trees were knocked down. while no serious injuries were reported there, it was a different story in florida. tornadoes cut a six-mile-wide path of destruction in the eastern part of that state. officials are calling it a mass casualty event as more than 20 people suffered critical injuries. witnesses say they saw at lea

the officer gunned down man who had stormed the factory where he worked. 7's jennifer eagan joins us now with more. >> jennifer: sarah, investigators are still trying to determine a motive. three people were killed, 14 were injured. >> we just kept hearing pop, pop. i ran over. a gentleman, i guess his name is adam, got shot. shooting happened at excel industries in hesston, kansas. it was 5:00 in the evening. police began getting calls of people being shot in various places. one man shot in his truck, another person shot in the street. there was a scene in the parking will the of excel and then in the plant itself. >> this is a horrible incident. >> i see people running. i'm assuming fire. and so i take a few steps and i hear a pop, pop, and i'm thinking some paint cannes or something going up. more people running. all of a sudden, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. >> jennifer: the shooter hasn't been identified by police, but coworkers say it's this man, cedric ford. investigators don't have information about a possible motive. the sheriff praising the officer who shot and killed the su

bombings want to recreate the shoot-out between police officers and the tsarnaev brothers. 7's jennifer eagan live in that neighborhood this morning with details. jen? >> jennifer: sarah, good morning. we're coming up on the third anniversary of the shoot-out and manhunt in this neighborhood. some people here still have bullet holes in their homes. now they are being asked to relive some of those moments. hollywood producers want to shoot a movie in this watertown neighborhood where police hunted down the two killers. location managers for the film "patriots' day" have reportedly asked people who live on laurell street to allow them to recreate the gun battle between officers and the tsarnaev brothers. when dzhokhar tsarnaev was sentenced to death last may, some people along laurell street could still point to bullet holes in their homes. many said with the case closed, they wanted to finally move forward. crews sent out flyers letting residents know that filming would happen at night and begin set to start in late april, again, just after the third anniversary of the bombing and manhunt. here's 7's jennifer eagan live at the moakley federal courthouse with more. jen? >> jennifer: christa, the victims' families have to agree they won't sue the federal government in the future in connection to the whitey bulger case. the "boston herald" reports that the u.s. attorney's office sent this offer out to 16 families. now, you probably remember back in 2013, whitey bulger was convicted of 11 murders. he had been charged with 19 families of his victims had sued the federal government in the past, claiming that the government was liable because corrupt f.b.i. agents who handled bulger enabled his killings and crimes. they haven't met much success, though. according to the "boston herald," under this offer from u.s. attorney carmen ortiz, the victim's families would split $822,000 in cash found inside bulger's california apartment when he was captured back in 2011. they would also divvy up the proceeds from an auction of bulger's other belongings. now, it's rumored bulger, who is 86 and in prison in florida, has stashed cash in other parts of trust and europe

let's go to 7's jennifer eagan in dorchester. jen? >> jennifer: christa, good morning. detectives remain here on scene. this accident happened around 2:00 this morning. we and we did just get an update from state police. they say the investigation has shown that the victim here in dorchester was actually hit in china town at the intersections of kneeland street and harrison avenue. police have that intersection blocked off as they collected evidence early this morning. that scene is more than three miles away from the scene here on columbia road. police still have one side of columbia roadblocked off right now. state police are saying it appears this pedestrian was dragged by the car from china town here to dorchester. boston ems confirms the victim suffered life-threatening injuries. they also took a second pedestrian from china town to the hospital. that person they say suffered non-life-threatening injuries. again, one victim suffered serious injuries in this accident. they may have been dragged after they were hit in china town and were brought here to dorchester. w

jennifer eagan is at the moakley federal courthouse with more on this story. jen? >> reporter: the victims and their families will split up the u.s. attorney's office worked out this agreement with the victims. and now things are moving forward. they sent out a settlement letter to the parties involved here. bulger was convicted of 11 counts of murder. according to the u.s. attorney's office, the families of 19 murders bulger were charged with are included in this settlement, as are three extortion victims. 22 families in all here. they will divvy up the $822,000 in cash found inside bulger's apartment in captured in june of 2011. there will also be an auction possessions. so for example, the furniture inside his apartment, the proceeds from that auction would also be split up. any assets of bulger's discovered in the future would be given to the families. if they agree, they cannot sue in the future for a larger share. the families would have to agree to this in order for this all to move forward by the end of this month. live in south boston this morning, jennife

jennifer eagan, 7news "today in new england." >>> bill cosby's wife set to answer more tough questions in her husband's defamation case. her deposition set to resume in march. yesterday she was deposed by hotel in springfield. >> police search for a man they believe is involved in two police chases that ended in crashes. police tried to stop a stolen car on route one in saugus monday morning. that's when the driver took off down the parkway and then crashed into another car. witnesses say they saw a man running from the scene. police say the driver was a few hours later they also said jaqueline murphy inside the car and arrested her on several car car -- warrants. she's due in court. they believe he's the same man that assaulted an officer with needle and led police on thursday that left an officer crashing into a poll in chelsea. the officer is seriously injured but expected to make full recovery. >>> we have new details on the deadly shooting spree in michigan. uber said driver charged with killing 6 people had been driving for them less than a month. they gave him good rating. prose

we are live from boston, jennifer eagan, 7 news. >> nancy: under heavy police a judge. accused of killing a man inside a randolph bar. >> mr. wright went to the city limit saloon in randolph last night. and at that saloon or that bar, was mr. drake scott. the victim. he was performing at the open mic night that evening. during evening, mr. wright was... he had asked two different bouncers about the front door, asking if that was the only exit that evening. >> police were responding to a disturbance nearby when they heard the shots. >> shots fired, shots fired! >> reporter: inside court, the family of the victim broke down as prosecutors explained there was no explanation for the shooting. >> your honor, there was no interaction between these two men during evening. and it appears that this was an execution-style murder in which this defendant followed the victim out of the car, having no interaction with him. and then taking the police on a chase. there is no explanation for it. >> reporter: prosecutors say as as they know, wright didn't know the victim at all. in quinc

california faculty association president jennifer eagan says the union's leaders voted over the weekendfor a walk-out to be held on april 13-15 and april 18-19 unless cal state administrators make a better contract offer before then. at issue is the size of pay raises union members will receive this school year. the faculty association is seeking a 5 percent salary increase. the university is offering raises of 2 percent. california officials are studying why the state's gas prices are consistently higher than the national average. the petroleum market advisory committee has been studying gas prices and what causes them to change. california drivers tend to pay more than the rest of the country. partly because of higher taxes and higher fuel blend standards designed to meet the state's air-quality rules. but members of the advisory committee say the taxes and cleaner-burning fuel don't account for the full difference in price. family and friends are mourning the loss. of the three people killed in a mid-air collision near the port of los angeles. crews are searching for the bodies and f
