jennifer griffin live for us at the pentagon. what have you learned? >> what we know from multiple senior u.s. defense officials is that sergeant bowe bergdahl will be flown back to the u.s. tonight. he will be arriving, we're told, some time after midnight in the early hours of tomorrow morning. he will be taken straight to san antonio to the brook army medical center. we do not expect to see him on his way into the hospital. in fact, we've been told by multiple officials that they will not give the press access to bowe bergdahl and we will not see him enter the hospital. we know that he has not spoken to his family while over in landstuhl. but when he is at brook army medical center, that's usually as part of the reintegration where he would meet with his family. we don't know of any plans right now for them to travel to brook army medical center. but this is the next phase of bowe bergdahl's reintegration back here into the united states. >> jennifer, it's interesting because, of course, we had the hearings on the hill yesterday with defense secreta

washington national security correspondent jennifer griffin joins us now.is a hearing going on, we're live tonight with the new inspector general with the v.a. richard griffin, and he is in front of congress, congressional committee. what's going on there? that's numbers are actually worse than those numbers that you just mentioned. we just learned from the v.a. acting inspector general who is testifying tonight. you can see the light behind me in the capital sewing they are doing the people's business as we speak. is he seeking in front of the house veterans committee. they are now investigating, he says, a total of 56, not 42 v.a. facilities accused of manipulating the data with regard to these wait times. with regard to the audit released today. 13% of the schedulers at the 731 v.a. hospitals and clinics that the v.a. itself investigated. 13% say they were told by their supervisors to falsify appointment schedules. in other words, 13% of the nearly 4,000 v.a. employees were ho were interviewed were told to cook the books by their bosses. 76% of the v.a.

jennifer griffin live in our d.c. bureau with more on that controversial proposal. jennifer. >> reporter: jon, in a near about face president obama signaled he now intend to ramp up training of syria's so-called moderate opposition after resisting calls to do so for three years since the syrian civil war began. secretary of state john kerry flew to saudi arabia where he met today with the head of the syrian opposition a day after the white house requested $500 million from congress to begin a more serious effort to train and arm syria's moderate opposition fighters. the request for $500 million to train the syrian opposition was larger than expected and came as part of the administration's request for $68.5 billion in overseas contingency operations, or oco funding. $5 billion of that will be slated for counterterrorism overseas. pentagon officials indicated training would not begin until next year. the training would last six to eight months but congress would need to approve the program. u.s. military trainers would take over a much smaller training program that ha

jennifer griffin has more for us live in the pentagon and over the last hour or two. you found out interesting information about what bo bergdahl left behind. >> reporter: according to the members of the unit debriefed by the army, there was a letter in which he was dislugtioned by the u.s. army. and wanted to renounce his u.s. citizenship. and the letter is presumably part of a evidence and part of a classified investigation. the army roached out to former members of bergdahl's unit and question them as part of a investigation and a commander's grand jury. and the chairman of the joint chief of staff will not rule out investigating bergdahl for dissertion. but he urged people not to rush to judgment. in response to those of you interested in my personal judgment of the recovery of sergeant bergdahl, the question of this particular soldier's conduct isivate. it is likely the last best opportunity to free him. and the circumstances of his capture and when he is able to provide them. he is innocent until proven get. our army's leaders will not look away from misconduct.

but first, national security correspondent jennifer griffin and has more on bergdahl's time in captivity. what can you tell us? >> reporter: bergdahl is in phase two of a phase three reintegration process. that could be five days or three weeks. he chose not to speak with parents and family. that is still true as of today. u.s. defense officials say that bergdahl did not have life threatening diseases and focusing on his psychological health. he was held in a cage after trying to escape from his cantors, that's what he told them. defense officials are renowsing to confirm the reports on when he was asked to be called private. and forcing press secretary to issue the following statement. the department of defense does not comment on the discussions that sergeant bergdahl is having with professionals. and we'll respect that process in all regards and our focus remains on providing him with care he needs. >> it would be offensive to consciously leave an american behind. no matter what in the hands of people who tortured on him. and he would consciously choose to do that? >> reporter: that's
