jennifer griffin, reporting.e's an interesting statistic for you. 28 million republicans have turned out to vote in the republican primary elections this season. that compares to just 23.7 million democrats. the top issue for voters in this year's election, of course, is the economy, and american workers today receiving what could only be called disastrous news. after hiring in may slowed to the lowest level in nearly six years. only 38,000 jobs were added last month. only 25,000 of those jobs in the private sector, that's the fewest since february of 2010. the unemployment rate fell to 4.7% despite that paltry job creation rate. but that decline, of course, driven as a result of people leaving the work force. nearly half a million americans dropped out of the work force last month, a share of americans employed or looking for a job fell to 62.6 percent. the result? a record number of americans not in the labor force now, almost 95 million people. 94,708,000 people. some economists put the number of those not wor

our national security correspondent jennifer griffin is live in newark new jersey. great to have you in the region jennifer. tell us about hillary clinton and what she hopes to achieve in new jersey today. reporter: heather, we are outside the window at rutgers university where she will be introduced. we expect singer bob joby at 1 pm today. she had hoped to spend more time in new jersey but she's cutting it short to get out to california. she anticipates, her campaign anticipates they will cross the finish line here in new jersey next tuesday. she is sort short 71 delegates right now if you include those superdelegates. last night she attended two fundraisers and raised quite a bit of money in new york and new jersey. the one in new york, lawyers for hillary was an event with former attorney general eric holder and the one in new jersey with senator cory booker who was widely talked about as a possible vp pick. the new york city lawyers for hillary fundraiser made $2 million, the new jersey fundraiser raise an estimated $1.3 million. also notable this morning as joh

let's get live now to jennifer griffin. e's in raleigh, north carolina with the former secretary of state. jennifer, she really kind of defended the clinton foundation because trump went after the clinton foundation pretty heavy today. >> reporter: she did. and in fact, what was interesting, trace, is at first it seemed like she wasn't going to mention donald trump. in fact, as we were listening, it took her 40 minutes before she even said his name. it seemed like a re different speech. it seemed like she was just going to talk about how she was going to help the middle class create jobs, create infrastructure. and then she took a turn about 10 minutes ago and then it was one zinger after another just like she did in columbus yesterday. she ended the speech to rousing cheers when she said that this chapter of america's economic history would not end in chapter 11. she called him the king of debt. she doubled down on some of the lines yesterday that really got her the most applause. probably the moment here that people cheere

bill: jennifer griffin watching all this live in lynwood, california. good morning, jennifer. how are the candidates spending their last day on the primary campaign trail today? reporter: bill, we're here in mexico plaza in lynwood, california, an indication just how important the latino vote will be here in california. 30% of the voters are latino. secretary clinton will be here in just about two hours and address some of those voters. as you mentioned she will not be here in california on tuesday. she will be in new jersey about three hours ahead of when the polls close here in california. her campaign released a scathing advertisement this morning stringing together the constant rebuke of trump's recent comments about judge gonzalo curio who is over his trump u case. this comes from prominent republicans. that is what makes it so scathing. bernie sanders campaigned with young people who still say they are voting for him. the polls though that clinton and sanders here in california are just one or two points apart. it will be a nail-biter here in california but again clinton
