[applause] >> in has been 10 years since voters approved the measure for the new building. >> when they cast the vote, we have an exciting opportunities to rethink how art is done in a hospital setting. >> replacement program generated approximately $3.9 million in art enrichment funds for a comprehensive art program that contributes to the quality of life at the hospital by enhancing the environment and supporting the hospital's needs and therapeutic goals. artists were commissioned to create 100 original works of art. as was for the gardens and courtyard areas. >> be artwork does more than just hang on the wall. it will enhance the therapeutics of the hospital and will include sensory stimulation, orientation, social

we have a number of distinct -- welcome to the latest addition of the district -- i am jennifer low. today we are focusing on district 7. the district between the lake and zoo. to remain something of a mystery of san francisco. let's find the charm of district 7. >> look at this, it's one of the most unique strips in all of san francisco. we have the unique neighborhoods to make san francisco what it is. they are unique and distinct and have their own characteristics. that's what we love. >> i think the most characteristic in district 7 you have residents that have been here forever. you have generations. i am fourth generation san franciscoian. you have a lot of people that live in san francisco that live in the sunny side and lived out here for years. as a result you have a real concern and care for just basic quality of life and community issues. i think that's our unique characteristic. >> strict 7 has reputation of being the conservative district. let's hear from the locals. >> i would say it looks to city government to provide more basic city services. it's a focus on the basic

jennifer low: welcome back to district sf on sfgtv. this month we're at the asian art museum in the center of san francisco and the center of district 6. it's a wide area in the city, one that many people just drive through, with locked doors. but when we go inside mid-market, the tenderloin, and south of market, you'll see the reality is different from the reputation. we met district 6's supervisor, chris daly, while he was visiting residents of an sro hotel now managed by the city. the success at the mission hotel is one example, of halting decades of decline, in the very heart of san francisco. the story of what is now district 6, is just the most current chapter of center city's long history. charles fracchia: districts began in the gold rush and were pretty much a part of all the 19th century. with a few exceptions, you've cobbled together e bunch of neighborhoods, and so districts are largely pretty much disparate areas. they take in a whole variety of different kinds of neighborhoods. in district 6, you've got part of the embarc

jennifer franciotti has more. >> the baltimore city council unanimously approved preliminary plans for the next use development, calling for 330,000 square foot retail space which includes a walmart, a lowe's home improvement center, and specialty shops. >> it has been a very well thought out, long process to make sure communities are heard and trying to preserve neighborhoods as much as possible community members were concerned about issues such as increased traffic. concerns were taken to the department of transportation and the project developer. they agreed to install a traffic calming measures such as speed bumps and new turning signals. >> i am going to get a shopping cart and i am going to be able to get whatever i need over there. >> some say the promise of hundreds of more jobs convinced many skeptics that the new stores will be a boost to the neighborhood. >> we are putting employment survey forms on every door so every person in this community has an opportunity to get a new job. >> days after the maryland jockey club officials suggest horseracing could be put in jeopardy, track operators are now waiting in it. they do not see either venue closing in the near future. a horse rac

low approval ratings. they've been in power at the state level and in washington. spending is an issue that resonates in wisconsin. >> ifill: jennifer rooks we think of maine as being the home of the two moderate republican senators. indeed the entire state has gone red and more conservative than even those two senators. >> that's true. most of the candidates that did run for the legislature were running on a more conservative platform than maine is used to. this is really historic. the last time the maine house of representatives was republican, controlled by the republicans, was 1974. and the last time the executive branch and the legislative branch were republican was 1966. you know, generations of mainers have grown up not knowing a republican-controlled government. one of the biggest issues here in maine like the rest of the country was jobs but also the republican party here in maine really targeted a tax reform, a piece of legislation that was passed last year that shifted or aimed to shift property tax to sales tax for many services. the republicans led a citizens effort to overturn that. and then a lot of the candidates who
