jennifer: i'm jennifer vaughn. the democratic race was oh close it took until this afternoon to declare hillary clinton the winner. for the republicans, ted cruz easily won iowa. wmur's amy coveno just back from the only stop cruz made here in new hampshire today before he headed south to south carolina. reporter: it was a rock star reception for senator cruz this afternoon at crossing life they could have filled the room twice as big. one pundit noticed perhaps the campaign had low expectations, but now are riding high. >> y'all treat politics in new hampshire like we treat football in texas. reporter: the junior senator from texas now working to translate the win in iowa to more votes in new hampshire. >> i believe if anyone wants to compete effectively in new hampshire you owe it to the men and women here to look them in the eyes, to defend your record and to ask for their support, that's what we're working to do. reporter: senator cruz took aim at donald trump on immigration. a shot across the bow, but steering

i'm jennifer vaughn. tom: i'm tom griffith. we begin tonight with meteorologist mike haddad and mike: so many changes over the past couple days from the snow and ice yesterday, last night we saw the biggest changes as those storms rolled on through and the winds picked up. temperatures jumped by about 20 degrees in spots in a matter of 10 to 15 minutes. and record high as cross the state today including in concord and portsmouth, 63 the high in of 60. and portsmouth shattering their old record of 55, they topped off at 61 a few hours ago. we're starting to cool down, but still above average. no issue in terms of refreeze on the roads through the evening. but overnight tonight that will start to change a little bit and here's the reason why. notice ithaca, new york, buffalo back below freezing, that cool air is rolling on in along with scattered showers, and any damp spots on the roads will tend to ice up. so untreated surfaces overnight tonight could get just a little bit icy, hard to imagine after 60 plus today. what about mor

jennifer: and i'm jennifer vaughn. despite the mild conditions right now, winter weather returns overnight. mike haddad is here, and some snow is going to arrive just in time for the morning commute. mike: that's right, and it's not going to be tons of snow, but it's certainly more than we've seen in some time. and shifts in our computer models driving that wave of low pressure we talked about yesterday, farther north. that means an impact on new hampshire just in time for early tomorrow morning. look at temperatures, well above freezing. no issue on the roads through the balance of the evening and first part of theover night. but temperatures will gradually fall into the third by the predawn hours of friday morning. all of that rain to the south eventually will bump into the cold air over new hampshire by early tomorrow morning. so here's a look at future cast after a dry stretch through see a light mix of rain and snow develop, changing to all wet snow just in time for the morning commute. right through the late morn

good evening, i' m jennifer vaughn. tom: and i' m tom griffith. the snow is expected to start overnight but when will it switch over to sleet, and freezing rain? chief meteorologist mike haddad is here to start our storm watch team coverage tonight. it is relatively dry right now. they begin at 8:00 and last through tomorrow morning. those advisories extend to a good portion of the day wednesday elsewhere in the state. right now it is nice and quiet. outside of a few flurries, it should be mainly dry. steadier snow, over central ports of new york state will move in through the evening. region by region, for when that here is josh. josh: we are dealing with snow and a changeover on the way dependent on temperatures. we are zooming in to see where they will be as the snow begins to push and. look at those temperatures.

jean: jennifer vaughn explains why the timing of this outbreak may help it end. jennifer: let's just say spring break is coming at a perfect time to prevent a feurt outbreak since the students have gone home. that's the good news, but the only 88% effective. mumps can cause fatigue, fever and swollen glands. all the cases at st. anselm college involved these symptoms. health officials are also watching the the incubation period, it 25 days, so students currently on break under that window. although it is not it a common ailment, the mumps do occur. >> the united states as a whole sees from a couple hundred up to 1,000 or more cases of mumps every year in new hampshire. last few years we've seen one or two cases a year, so this does happen, it's unfortunate. luckily most of the time mumps causes mild symptoms, but we are trying to prevent it from spreading any further. reporter: at this point health officials are reminding minute who may have come in contact with the mumps to get checked out by a doctor, especially pregnant women or anyone with a compromised immune

jennifer: i'm jennifer vaughn. fire investigators say it a from. our heather hamel is live tonight in goffstown with our top story at 6:00. reporter: according to the fire chief, the man was using an accelerant and says that poses a risk and says that this is proof an instant. gently but quickly they got him on a stretcher and into a helicopter. >> i feel for the patient and the fact that they're in so much pain. reporter: the fire chief says the 27-year-old man was the victim of serious burns, leaving him in critical condition. investigators say he was attempting to ignite two brush and wood piles in this burn pit. the fire chief says the property owner called shortly before 9:00 to say that there would be burning going on there. the chief says they gave their standard warning. >> to be careful and don't use act accelerants. reporter: but an accelerant was used, possibly gasoline, and minute after they got the call another came in to 911. the caller had been with the victim, he was instructed to put water on the man to cool him down. the chief say
