jeremy bash, when the 11th hour continues. u.s.ecretary of state, antony blinken is black in tel aviv urging israeli leaders to extend a temporary truce with and boost aid to civilianize who are in gaza. more than 100 hostages are still in the hands of hamas. including eight americans. for more, i want to bring in my friend jeremy bash, former chief of staff at the cia and the pentagon. jeremy, thank you for being here. do you expect israel and hamas to extend this truce? i mean, the families of those hostages are praying for it. >> i do expect that because i think this truce has worked for both sides. israel has gotten hostages back and has calmed a son of the internal discontent about the way the netanyahu government has handled the hostage matter. and hamas, has obviously won the ability to re-arm, to refuel, to reposition. and to gain strength as they think about future combat against israel. so, oddly enough, this truce has worked for both sides. i will say, stephanie, i spent some time today with the families of those eight a

. >> for more i want to bring in jeremy bash, former chief of staff at the cia and the pentagon. remy, what is the most important thing our audience needs to know right now? >> look, tonight, the secretary of state is complaining around diplomacy in the region and it looks like he's had important conversations and one of the u was goal is fundamentally to prevent a wider war. this is fundamental to american national security. i think secretary blinken has so far sent a strong message of deterrence. obviously is backed up by american military power. it's also based on strong diplomacy by the united states to urge countries to channel their messages to iran to say don't jump into this fight. don't open another front with israel. i think second, it looks like the united states and israel are close according as their -- as a previous piece just noted on finding the hostages, and releasing the hostages. that's why the director burns is in the region to share information and -- third, to get humanitarian aid into support the innocent people of gaza who are being used as human shields by

joining me now former chief of staff at the cia and the department of defense, jeremy bash. jeremy, it is good to see you. obviously, the good news is day one of the cease-fire unrolled or an rambled without any major complications. 24 hostages released. any moment that we are expecting to see more hostages released. your take on whether or not this four-day cease-fire may actually be the beginning of the extension of more cease-fire days and a longer truce. >> i hope it can be the beginning of more hostage releases. after yesterday, there are still 90% of the hostages in captivity. more than 220 people are still away from their loved ones, including ten americans, katie. we cannot take our foot off the gas. until all of those hostages are brought home, this crisis will not be over. and it will demand the world's attention. with respect to the americans, you have four year old abigail. you have women, someone like hersh goldberg, previously wounded. we saw in that video his arm being blown off after he was attending the music festival. the american hostages, american citizens

. >>> we're joined by admiral james stavirides and jeremy bash, former chief of staff. admiral, the truce starts at 7:00 a.m. local and then the first batch of hostages, 13 women and children, will be released at 4:00 p.m. local. what do you make of that gap? >> i think it's entirely understandable in any operation like this it's going to be kind of confidence building period where both sides are going to be closely watching the other to ensure complete alignment. i think there will be a period of time of skepticism, but i am very hopeful this is going to be consummated. having said that, you know, long term i think it is highly likely we are going to see a return to combat. the israeli military will continue to, in addition to bringing those hostages home, ana, they are going to want to utterly eliminate that tunnel system. that's a real military observive they're not going to let go of that. hopefully we'll get more of the hostages back home and good to be talking about it on a thanksgiving day. >> think about just how thankful everybody will be when those hostages ar

. >> we want to bring in jeremy bash, served as chief of staff at the defense department and cia. us this morning. jeremy, thank you for being here this morning. i want to get to the signs of tension with the united states and israel. you have antony blinken calling for humanitarian pauses and president biden has said as much in the last several days. benjamin netanyahu appearing to rebuff that saying no pauses without all of the hostages being rele you take us inside w these conversations would look like and what different pressures both sides are facing? >> peter, they do not support a total cease-fire. they are aligned with israel that a cease-fire would basically be a unilateral disarmament and the last cease-fire was used to rearm and plan the worst terror attack and slaughter of jews since the holocaust. they are discussing discreet local pauses in some of israel's aerial campaign to allow for massive amounts of humanitarian aid to come into specific areas. the pauses could last half a day or a day. israel would restart the military campaign to go after hamas and the key her

i want to bring in jeremy bash, former chief of staff at the cia at the pentagon and a senior fellow at the globe atlantic council. he's based on reporting from. israel michael, beyond what we heard from netanyahu, where has been the reaction in israel to the white house as new concerns? >> good to be with you, and stephanie, just before i answer, that to give you an idea of how high tensions are, the anxiety is just a few hours ago before lights out, we had run those air read sirens and people just have seconds to flee and you can really feel how people are on edge here and yet unlike in ukraine when air raid silence go after you have a lot of time to seek shelter but look there is a lot of skepticism here about netanyahu from day one, the way he has handled, is in fact from months ago the buildup to this, so people number one of course they want to see those hostages released and number two they want some kind of tranquility or calm here. and thirdly, there is a huge feeling for revenge and so of course netanyahu was speaking to that but i think the feeling on the ground here is th

. >>> joining us now is jeremy bash he served as chief of staff at both the department of defense andremy, good morning so, jeremy, we're expecting that first batch of hostages to be released later this morning. raf had some details here, but there is a lot we don't know walk us through how this exchange will go. >> first 13 in that initial group will be brought to a military base. there are therapists there there are counselors there there are, of course, medical personnel. and then they will be reunited with their family members who have been told to go forward with hotels in the areas of that medical facility then i think israel has to wait to see whether or not an additional 12 or 13 come out tomorrow, the following day and the following day. after that 50 initial group, there will still be 180 hostages so this is just the beginning of a very long, arduous process of course, on israel's northern border as they continue to fire rockets into israel. so this conflict is nowhere near over, but this is a hopeful sign. >> jeremy, these are people who have been held for almost 50 days th
