let's go straight to cnn's jeremy diamond and tel aviv jeremy, what more are you learning? >> well jim, this would be an earth-shattering development if indeed it is confirmed the israeli military says that they have killed what they described as three terrorists in the gaza strip, one of whom they believe may be hamas's leader, yahya sinwar, the mastermind of the october 7 attacks that set off this year long war inside the gaza strip. the israeli military is saying in a statement that quote, the identity of the terrorists cannot yet be confirmed. they are also saying that this apparently happened in a building above ground in gaza, which is extremely notable given the fact that the working assumption has been that sinwar was he hiding in tunnels for the much of the last year. they also say that there are, quote, no signs of the presence of hostages in the area. now sinwar has been, of course, a central figure in this war over the course of the last year. not only did he green light the october 7 attack that set off this war that has now seen 12 of hundred israeli civilians

hezbollah, plus the political leader of hamas, while he was in tehran, we're going to start with jeremy diamond in tel aviv tonight. so what have you learned jeremy? >> well, anderson, the israeli military is now confirming that strikes are indeed underway against what they are describing as military targets inside of iran, they did call these strikes, quote, precise strikes on military targets in iran and israeli officials tonight are taking pains to emphasize that there were no energy targets neither nuclear or oil targets that were hit in these israeli strikes tonight, we don't have a ton of more detail about exactly what the nature of these targets are. but iranian state media is indeed reporting that there were explosions in the iranian capital of tehran. the israeli military says that it has every right and duty to respond to what it describes as continuous iranian attacks by itself, as well as its proxies. of course, this is primarily retaliation for that barrage of some 200 ballistic missiles that iran fired at the beginning of this month. over the course of the last three-and-a-half we

cnn's jeremy diamond is live in tel aviv with the very latest and a lot has happened overnight. jeremy. what are you hearing >> no question about it, kate. and, you know, one year after this war began, this multi-front war that israel is now engaged in is showing no signs of slowing down. instead, israel appears to be picking up the pace, intensifying its attacks on numerous fronts. first, we'll start in lebanon, where the israeli military is expanding its ground operations. initially into southern lebanon on the eastern portion of southern lebanon. now they are also going in on the western side as well. and now three divisions have now been activated in the fighting in southern lebanon, which represents quite a significant force that the israeli military is bringing to bear. hezbollah is also intensifying its attacks against israel. today, a very large barrage one of the largest barrages that we have seen over the course of the last year that has been directed at haifa from hezbollah, about 105 rockets fired towards haifa and the surrounding area. there were a couple of injuries
