cnn's jeremy diamond is in tel aviv. jeremy, walk us through this. what hamas is alleging and how israel is responding here. >> well, hamas is accusing israel of committing several violations of the cease fire agreement. they point to things that have happened in the past, like the delay of the return of palestinians to the northern part of the gaza strip, which israel at the time said was because hamas didn't release a hostage that it was supposed to at the time when when it should have. and they also point to things that are still ongoing, including they say, that israel is obstructing the entry of shelter equipment such as tents, but also, critically, these prefabricated homes that have not yet entered the gaza strip. according to hamas, we've yet to get a response from the israeli government to that specific allegation. but what we do know is that the israeli government is reacting to this threat to delay the release of the hostages scheduled for this coming saturday. as a result, with the israeli defense minister, israel katz, saying that he has

cnn's jeremy diamond has more details for us from tel aviv. jeremy. >> well, a ceasefire agreement that just 24 hours ago seemed like it was on the brink of collapse now appears to be getting back on track. hamas putting out a statement saying that they intend to honor this cease fire agreement and release hostages. according to the timetable provided by this agreement, that would mean releasing three hostages this coming saturday. israel has yet to officially respond to that statement from hamas. and we know that, of course, the israeli prime minister has threatened to go back to the fight in gaza, go back to war come saturday if hamas does not release hostages. but i've spoken with a number of israeli officials who, while they declined to comment officially on this hamas statement, they are indicating that there is quite a bit of optimism inside the israeli government about maintaining this cease fire agreement, indicating that if hamas goes ahead and releases three hostages as planned this coming saturday, that israel will hold up its end of

cnn's jeremy diamond is live in tel aviv. nd jeremy, there has certainly been a lot of uncertainty around how this will play out. where do things stand right now? >> without a doubt. and all of that uncertainty stemmed from saturday, when israel refused to release 620 palestinian prisoners in exchange for the last four living israeli hostages scheduled to be released during the first phase of this ceasefire agreement. siting these ceremonies that hamas has been holding and what they called humiliating displays of some of the hostages who were still remaining in gaza. so israel, declining for the last several days to release those 620 palestinian prisoners. and as a result, there was uncertainty about whether or not we would actually see what is expected to be perhaps the last exchange of hostages and prisoners during the first phase of this cease fire agreement. but just in the last few hours, israel and hamas have indeed reached a deal under which hamas is expected to release the bodies of four hostages this evening. it, saki

cnn's jeremy diamond is following this from tel aviv for us. jeremy, how is israel responding? >> well, listen, brianna, this is a very serious threat from hamas coming at a very delicate moment in this cease fire agreement and in particular, a very sensitive moment in israel following the images that we saw over the weekend. of those three emaciated hostages following 16 months in captivity. we have seen a renewed sense of urgency in israel to extend this cease fire and get all of the hostages back. and now into that mix, hamas is injecting this threat to delay the release of the next three israeli hostages, which was scheduled for this coming saturday. hamas saying that they are doing so because they accuse israel of violating terms of the cease fire agreement by previously delaying the return of palestinians to northern gaza, and also accusing israel of not allowing in certain relief supplies. in particular, we know they've accused israel of not allowing in enough tents and prefabricated mobile homes, which they say was supposed to be part of this agreement. israel hasn't re

cnn's jeremy diamond is live for us in tel aviv. jeremy, where do things stand right now? >> well, boris, as soon as in the next ten minutes, we could be seeing or getting confirmation that the bodies of four israeli hostages have been handed over to the red cross inside of the gaza strip. that was when we were told to expect this handover of four remains of israeli hostages to take place. perhaps the last handover of hostage bodies during the first phase of this ceasefire agreement. the remains that we are expecting are those of israeli hostages. idan itzhak, ohad yahalomi and shlomo mansour, the latter being the oldest hostage who was held in gaza, who we learned last week had in fact been killed in the gaza strip, killed on october 7th and his body taken to the gaza strip. there will not be any ceremonies surrounding the release of these bodies, as per an agreement between israel and hamas. and this comes following days of uncertainty since saturday, when israel refused to release 620 palestinian prisoners. it was slated to release in exchange for those four living host

jeremy diamond, cnn, tel aviv. >> all right, jeremy, thank you very much. joining us now is former state department middle east negotiator aaron david miller. he's also a senior fellow at the carnegie endowment for international peace. aaron, thanks so much for being here with us. i want to pick up where we left off. there, israel, condemning the appearances of these three israeli hostages following their release today. and then later, the palestinian prisoners media office, raising concerns over the appearance of some of the released prisoners. what is your reaction to all of that? >> you know, i think it underscores the human tragedy of how innocents suffer as a consequence of conflict and war. as far as these three that were released, i mean, you see the obvious signs of physical torture and psychological torture. the fact that they're paraded before or in the company of masked hamas gunmen who are who basically forced them to give speeches praising their captors, just adds to the trauma. it seems to me, and again, i think it reflects the reality that ge

cnn's jeremy diamond is in tel aviv, israel. jeremy, tell us what happened here. >> well, phil, hamas is threatening to delay the release of three more hostages this coming saturday over what it says are a series of violations of the cease fire agreement by israel. hamas has released a list in which they include the shooting of multiple palestinians in gaza during the cease fire by israeli forces, the entry of shelter equipment, including ready made homes, which they say have not yet entered the gaza strip but were supposed to. and the delay of medicines into gaza. hamas says that it is making this statement five days ahead of the agreement, with the intention that this will give the mediators time to pressure the israeli government to remedy those violations. now we have reached out to the israeli government. they've yet to comment on those specific violations. accusations by hamas. but what's really important to note here is that there's so much else happening in the background, and hamas is very aware of it. not only the image

cnn's jeremy diamond joins us now from tel aviv, israel. , you heard president trump set that deadline. what is the israeli government? what are the leaders of hamas saying about it? >> well, jake. >> this cease. >> fire between israel. >> and hamas really does appear to be. hanging by a thread at this moment, certainly in the most precarious position it has been since it came into effect just over three weeks ago. the israeli prime minister tonight, piggybacking off of trump's ultimatum there, saying that if hamas does not return hostages by noon on saturday, the cease. fire will end. israeli forces, who have already begun to amass in greater numbers along the gaza border, will return to the fight against hamas and this time until hamas is, quote, completely defeated. in the words of the prime minister. now, the prime minister didn't say exactly how many hostages would need to be released, but an israeli official telling me tonight that the government expects nine living hostages to be released in the next few days. if hamas wants this ceas

jeremy diamond is standing by there and some analysis also in london. so, jeremy, just to bring us up to date with what we can expect, what we are seeing and how this is expected to play out. >> yeah. that's right john, we understand that the vehicles of the international red cross have now arrived in deir al-balah in central gaza. those images that you can see live of red cross vehicles there. hamas having cordoned off an area where there is a crowd of hundreds of gazans who are watching this scene as a scene very similar to the ones that we have seen play out over the last few weeks. this is the first time, however, that these hostages are being released in central gaza. we have seen releases in the northern part of the strip before in southern gaza as well. but this is the first time that we are seeing one in central gaza, and that is likely an indication of where these hostages have been held until this moment. we are still awaiting for the vehicles. the hamas unit vehicles carrying those hostages to actually arrive at that square. but the fact that

i want to go first, though, to tel aviv and cnn's jeremy diamond. jeremy, as i've said, we've seen this play out several times before. take us through what we're seeing and what we're expecting. >> yeah, that's right. this is the fifth release of israeli hostages. over the course of this, what will be a six week ceasefire agreement between israel and hamas today, we are expecting the release of three israeli hostages, all of them men, civilians, two of them over the age of 50. they include ohad ben ami. and eli sharabi. and then we also expect the release of a third hostage, or levy, who is a 34 year old father of a three year old little boy. all of these men will be returning to very different realities than the ones that they left on october 7th, eli sharabi, his wife and his two daughters were killed during hamas's attack on october 7th. his brother was also taken hostage, but died in captivity, killed, most likely by an israeli airstrike. according to the israeli military's assessment, or levy has his three year old boy who is waiting for him her

and let me just bring in jeremy diamond and jeremy. i know that there are millions of palestinians. there were 2 million in gaza before this war began, before hamas launched this war against israel, with the attack, they want to go back to their land and they want i mean, i think there was talk of rebuilding before two weeks and one day ago. um, how is this going to be received? >> well. >> all you have to do, jake, is look at the images that we have seen over the course of the last few weeks of this cease fire in gaza. hundreds of thousands of palestinians returning to the northern part of the strip, despite the fact that they are very much aware that much of it has been turned to rubble. but that is how strong many gazans feel about the connection to their homeland, about the connection to the to the place where they and generations before them have lived. and so that is all the answer. i think, that the palestinians would give to president trump, as he is talking about forcibly displacing them from gaza, something that comes very close and might even meet the definition of ethnic

jeremy diamond is there in tel aviv tonight. jeremy, can i just ask you, you hear the president of the united states say we're going to take over that piece of land. the u.s. will take over the gaza strip. we'll own it. i see a long term ownership position for the united states of america. everybody i know loves the idea. prime minister netanyahu, hardliner on the issue, says trump's taking it to another level. how? what even would be the reaction within israel to hear the president of the united states saying, what he just said? >> well, first of all, i think, aaron, we need to be really clear about what we just heard from the president of the united states. he is suggesting the forcible permanent displacement of about 2 million people from a place that they call home. he is talking about relocating palestinians out of gaza forcibly. he is talking about potentially using u.s. troops to do so, which would involve putting u.s. troops in combat to rout the hamas militants, who surely would not leave willingly, and also to remove pa

jeremy diamond is here with us now from tel aviv. jeremy, what are you hearing?ll, dana, this comes at a very fragile moment in this cease fire agreement and a very sensitive time in israel, following the images of those three hostages who were released from hamas captivity on saturday, looking emaciated after 15, or i should say, 16 months of captivity. and so, amid all of that, hamas is now saying that they are planning to delay indefinitely the release of the three hostages set to be released this coming saturday. they accuse israel of violating the terms of the cease fire agreement by both delaying the return of palestinians to northern gaza, which happened a couple of weeks ago, and also this entry of relief supplies. and what they're really talking about is housing and tents, which they say have not entered gaza in the quantities and the types that were required under the cease fire agreement. now, israel has not yet responded directly to that accusation. but we know, of course, that there have been accusations of violations of the cease fire going back and

cnn's jeremy diamond is in tel aviv, and there's a lot of reaction, i'm sure you are getting this morning. what more are you hearing, jeremy? >> without a doubt, kate, there has been widespread criticism and condemnation of president trump's suggestion that the palestinians be forcibly displaced from the gaza strip. he is, of course, talking about moving more than 2 million palestinians who live in gaza forcibly outside of the gaza strip, and also suggesting that this would be a permanent move as the united states would seek to take over the gaza strip and turn it into some kind of real estate development. the palestinian authority president mahmoud abbas, has now sounded off, saying, quote, we will not allow for the rights of our people, for which we have struggled for decades and made great sacrifices to achieve, to be infringed upon. these calls represent a serious violation of international law. the countries that president trump has said would take in these palestinian refugees, egypt and jordan. they have rejected these calls with the egyptian foreign ministry once again today makin

cnn's jeremy diamond is in tel aviv. this does come after donald trump, you know, threatened to to rain hell down on them or all hell is going to break loose there if they do not return all of the hostages by saturday. what do you know? >> well. >> it certainly. >> seems like things are getting back on track for this ceasefire to continue. hamas now saying that they will indeed release three hostages. >> as scheduled. >> this saturday. >> less than. >> 48 hours after they said that they would not. citing a series of israeli ceasefire violations. we also saw the israeli prime minister, of course, saying that israel would abandon this cease fire, return to the fight in gaza if indeed hamas did not release hostages this coming saturday. but what has happened over the course of the last 48 hours have been intense discussions involving the mediators egypt, qatar as well as hamas and israel. the mediators have been working to resolve this dispute on hamas's side in terms of the amount of aid that has been going into gaza, in p
