reactionon the markets to the tapering decision, i'm joined by jeremy hill.dio. the fed stayed the course as they said they would. even in the face the market selloff, is this the path of least resistance? >> a leopard does not change its stripes that often. the fed is being consistent. bayer tapering because they told us the u.s. economy would grow and 3.0%.8% and is their core belief they need to maintain credibly on that. >> if they had decided on the face of the latest emerging market turmoil to change course, than what? >> the markets would have reacted poorly. emerging markets are down 10%. to be frank about it, idled at the fed pays that much attention to that kind of information. they are more concerned with the u.s. data. >> let's discuss the efficacy of quantitative easing. what effect has qe had on the economy? >> if we go back to what chairman bernanke wrote in the washington post -- he wanted to increase wealth and bring down rates. whether he has increased the wealth effect or not, that is debatable. but we will see rates increase eventually as

talking about the brutal selloff we saw over the last two days, i am joined by jeremy hill, principalf caesar beware the ides of march. that day had no relevance until caesar was assassinated. the markets here, i don't think there is anything different about the factual status we are in today from a week or a month ago. >> what triggered this? we attribute it to weaker emerging-market currencies and the bleeding in the u.s., the decline in the 10 year treasury yield as the safe haven was bought up. >> again, if you take a step back and look at the data. we had decent data out of europe. i'm not suggesting the market is there is antinue -- real fear of a taper. i think we have shifted to a psychological market imbalance. we have talked about taper. we got ready to dance. we are pushed onto the dance floor and made a bogey. fed policy is still in control. >> it is still about digesting the fed taper and preempting next week? >> that is one element. in the emerging markets, there are a lot of idiosyncratic risks, inflation, and political instability. these things carry over because peopl

joining me now for more on the unemployment report and its impact is jeremy hill.n he called it puzzling and worrisome. what is your take? >> it is puzzling and worrisome but we have to take a more holistic viewpoint of what has happened in u.s. economic data. just this week we had a ton of data and i suggested to everybody that it was not such a terrible week. is assigninghe fed a higher value to the jobs report. look at the trade deficit. it was the best we have had in four years. overall not a great u.s. economic data week. not so terrible either. a strong adpe had report on hiring which had economists upgrading their outlook on the back of that. do you think it is going to change the fed's thinking around tapering? >> i do not. this is a singular data point. we had some weather issues. i know that sounds are general and even a little bit crazy. one can imagine that next report we get a bit of an uptick in this month's numbers. i think that is a very plausible -- that is very plausible. we had an increase from november. if the trend -- the trend continues to be

the reaction to today's fed decision, to continue to taper the bond buying program, i'm joined by jeremy hillstment advisors. the fed stayed the course as they said they would, but even in the face of the market selloff, is this the path of least resistance? >> in one word, it is consistency. a leopard doesn't change it stripes and the fed is being consistent. the reason they are tapering is because they've told us they believe the u.s. economy is going to grow between 2.8 and 3.2% this year. do with what'sto going on in emerging markets or any other issues. that is their core belief and a need to maintain credibility. rex if they had decided in the face of this latest emerging- market turmoil, then what? how the markets have reacted? >> i think the markets would have reacted very poorly. emerging markets are down roughly 10% year to date. to be frank, i don't really think the fed pays that much attention to that kind of move. they are more concerned about that. >> what direct result has qe had on the economy? >> if you go back to what ben bernanke wrote, he had two goals. one was to increase

joining me jeremy hill from affinity investment advisers and our own bob pisani.te a little while ago, people keep saying what's wrong with the stock market. >> they keep complaining, there's something wrong. people think the stock market should go up every day is what's wrong with the stock market. >> didn't it last year? >> yes. so far what we have here is not a lot of money being put to work. the volume is anemic today. right now we'll maybe to 3 billion shares. we're not seeing a lot of new money come to work. i don't see a lot of bets being made. >> what do you think is going on, jeremy? >> i think the theme for 2014 is strength begets strength. i think equity investors are going to suffer from what we call the recency effect and that means they're going to remember what happened last with more import than what happened in 2008. 2008 you lost a lot of money in equities. last year 30% gain. it's being advised with neon vegas-like lights. you combine that with the fact that last year was the first time since 1999 that bonds lost money. we think people will allo
