jericka duncan has the latest on the case. good morning to you.ges as adults? >> it really comes down to intention. the prosecutors claim that they pushed the log that killed victoria schafer. now a grand jury will ultimately sdield whether or not to indict -- decide whether or not to indictment the 16-year-olds on murder charges and felonious assault and involuntary manslaughter charges, as well. the attorneys for the teens argue those charges are far too harsh. on second 2nd, victoria shafer was out taking senior pictures for a group of high school students at hocking hills state park in ohio. that's when the photographer and mother of four was struck by a six-foot-long, 74-pound log that fell from above without warning. it killed her instantly. students and other witnesses immediately called 911. >> a tree has fallen -- >> slow down. i can't understand you. what happened? >> a tree branch fell on her. >> i think she's dead. there's no -- >> is her chest rising and falling? >> no. there's no movement. >> reporter: at the time, authorities began

our national correspondent, jericka duncan, is following this story. terrible news today.re any leads on who may have done this to her? >> reporter: good morning. police have not yet indicated there are any suspects, but they've revealed that anton's death may be part of a burglary. investigators say multiple items were missing from her apartment, including a cell phone, a laptop, a television, sheets, and a pair of sports shoes. patricia anton hailed from michigan and dedicated her life to helping children. she was a consultant at an elementary school in the d.r. and has lived there for at least five years. the school's web site says she had more than 20 years of teaching experience and was previously a legislative aide at the michigan state capitol. anton is one of at least 11 americans know who died in the d.r. this year. the rest have been tourists, and the reasons range from natural causes to death possibly linked to tainted alcohol. now anton's body will now be taken to a lab in santiago city for further testing. police are urging anyone with knowledge of the crime t

jericka duncan went to minnesota to see how young people there are taking the lead to improve their ownp the stigma. in this case, young people are doing that by speaking up. a couple weeks ago at youth cultural healing summit minnesotanss took center stage to transform their pain into perseverance. ♪ ♪ this is a story all about how a woman got real loud ♪ >> reporter: hundreds gathered at this church in downtown minneapolis for lessons on healing and resiliency. marnita runs the non-profit that co-hosted the summit with the catalyst initiative. >> it was the brainchild of a group of young people who came to us and said there's so much happening in our communities, whether it's violence, whether it's poverty, whether it's feeling dislocated. can you help us build a space where we can come together and heal. >> healing starts with what? >> us i would say. >> reporter: 25-year-old mariana sawer says acknowledgement played a big moment in her own healing. she's a part of a non-profit that started with a group of public school kids at risk of dropping out. >> no one should have to struggle

jericka duncan is following this disturbing and developing story. good morning. so what more do we know? >> you know, there's still so many questions, and this just happened last night. authorities in mexico say they've deployed members of their army, national guard, and state police to investigate. the victims all left their community at the same time in three separate cars. some were traveling back to the united states, some to the neighboring town of labaron for a wedding when suddenly they were struck by a hail of gunman so severe that one of the cars exploded. >> this is for the record. nita and four of my grandchildren are burned and shot up. >> reporter: in a video posted to facebook, you can see the aftermath of the attack. the scorched suv that apparently contained the burned bodies of maria ronita miller and four of her seven children. it's unclear if they were specifically targeted. the victims reportedly all belonged to a decades' old mormon community based in northern mexico. the youngest victims were twin babies, just seven months old. some of the c
